  1. As to the "where does it all go" part - I found this rather interesting article on poop : Open Original Shared Link So the fact that you don't produce very much in volume means that the water has been absorbed back I think? I guess you could also try some probiotics if you haven't yet. Pauliina
  2. It's the same in Europe. Some people do react to those, though, there's a Dutch discussion board for example that I often read where a few people swap info on products that don't have wheat derived sugars. Pauliina
  3. Look at it this way: your gene test coming back with a low probability is a bit like winning the lottery. If you already have the money in your bank account, you don't say "OMG, the chances of winning the lottery are a million to one, that's really low probability. I can't have won the lottery!". The positive biopsy and blood test are like money in the bank...
  4. I know that you're probably not feeling too well today so this can seem overwhelming. Try to stick to safe foods for now so that you can recover, ok? YOU can help yourself. After a year practically gluten free (if I'm reading you right) it will be difficult to get a definitive diagnosis. But you don't need a diagnosis to go completely 100% gluten free...
  5. If you haven't had problems with dairy before, and it has just started, I doubt if it is connected to celiac. Some celiacs are lactose intolerant in the beginning of the gluten free diet because their intestines aren't healed yet but in your case that wouldn't make as much sense I'd think. So it could very well be just plain old lactose intolerance which...
  6. Stress can definitely worsen symptoms. In that case really the solution is to try to do something about the stress, but it sounds like you're not in a position to do that easily. Maybe other people will have ideas. I just want to say thank you for the important work you're doing, I know it won't make it any less stressful for you right now but my hat...
  7. Vitamin deficiencies came to my mind as well. Some people do react with joint/muscle pain to foods that they are intolerant of, so I don't think your doctor is wrong to suggest trying to cut out other foods. But you need to plan that well if you want to try, exactly for the reasons you mention. Pauliina
  8. An idea ... you could ask if they would do the endoscopy and colonoscopy on the same day after each other, since you will be there and prepped for the colonoscopy anyway. It would save a lot of time. if they do, they need to take plenty of biopsies of the small intestine, not only have a look since the celiac damage can't be seen with naked eye. Pauliina
  9. I'd still consider doing the appointment with GI and colonoscopy. 1. a colonoscopy might be a good idea just to check for any potential other problems. 2. As i understand it, GI's work in a certain order of tests, they do a colonoscopy first but if it doesn't show anything you might have a chance of having them do an endoscopy later. It might be easier...
  10. I play recorder, and I have gotten more careful about trying other people's recorders for sure. But I don't think the risk from the things you describe is all that big really, if you've replaced the old reeds. If a reed had some beer residue on it, I still don't think a lot of it would have gotten into the case, or from the case o9nto a new reed. As for...
  11. Thanks for the explanation casnco! Pauliina
  12. On the plus side there are more concerts and stuff now than in the summer so you can find stuff to do inside if it's very rainy. And sometimes you get really nice sunny crisp autumn days as well, just pack warm clothes. "Vehn
  13. Finland has one of the highest incidences of diagnosed celiacs in the world I think. So it's really pretty well known there. I haven't eaten out in Helsinki for years so I can't give you any names, but I don't think you'll have a problem. If you're staying at a hotel, contact them beforehand and chances are good they can provide you with a gluten free breakfast...
  14. Is this some kind of a regional thing? I'm asking because I've never heard of washing fruit and vegetables with anything but water? Pauliina
  15. Get a food thermos. Cook enough for two meals in the evening, eat one portion, heat up the second in the morning and take it in the thermos, it will still be warm for lunch. A safe brand of tortilla chips, carrots, cucumber, apple, banana, nuts. Sometimes I take a couple of jars of babyfood if I don't have time to prepare anything. Good...
  16. Mouthwash won't help, since gluten isn't a germ and cannot be killed. I really don't know what the next step would be from brushing teeth and rinsing, apart from not eating gluten at all, which is quite a lot to ask I'd think. To me it really sounds like you're being quite careful. I wonder if it really is cc that is getting you or if there is a product...
  17. To the original poster - when I get glutened, my most annoying symptoms usually subside after a few days. BUT 6 to 7 days from the glutening I get a flare up. It used to really confuse me before I figured out that the pattern was always more or less the same. I used to think I had been glutened again. But apparently it's just the way my immune system...
  18. About the gene question: It's possible to have celiac genes but to not have celiac. About 30% of the American population has celiac genes if I recall correctly, but only some people develop celiac. Celiac requires something else to "trigger" it, how exactly that happens is not quite well known as far as I know. Basically you need to have the genetic disposition...
  19. Too much stomach acid could also make one feel hungry, and eating something would relieve that for a while. But if he's not been gluten free for very long, he could also be extra hungry right now. I was eating all the time when I first went gluten free, really insane, and I've seen other people report the same here. In my case it got better after a few...
  20. Actually it does say clearly that your villi in the duodenum, which is where celiac damage would be expected to be, are not flattened, or blunted, and there are no inflammatory cells. In other words at least the places that were biopsied aren't damaged. I realize it's a disappointment if you were hoping for a clear cut diagnosis, but there it is. There...
  21. A lot of the gluten free breads and cookies and such are made with mostly corn and rice, and they are mostly carbs and not that much other nutritional value. Of course it depends on the individual product. But in general I agree you'll be better of concentrating on naturally gluten free foods like fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, and have the baked...
  22. We posted at the same time. I'm guessing out of range means they were so high positive they stopped counting. That happens sometime with some of these tests I've noticed from other people's posts. I know it must be a shock right now and a lot to wrap your head around. keep reading here and asking questions and you'll get there eventually. Pauliina
  23. What Shay said, without the reference ranges we don't know which tests are above the reference ranges. But the Endomysial antibody was marked as positive and that is a very specific test for celiac (meaning there aren't really other things that could explain why it's positive). The thing with anemia and celiac is that your intestine is probably damaged...
  24. I don't think you need to worry about steam. Yeah splashes can happen but steam would be just water I would think. It's not like the pasta vaporises! But do take care, if you cook gluten-free and gluten foods at the same time it's terribly easy to forget and stir with the same spoon by accident. You need to have some sort of routine for that. gluten...
  25. I'd say go for the biopsy unless you have very good reasons not to (like ShayFL has). The reason why I say this is that the diet is for LIFE. You might not feel like having a biopsy now, but how will you think about it in ten years time? It will be much more difficult if you start to doubt your diagnosis then and would like to have one after all. At this...
