  1. Actually the UWS (Upper West Side) has a couple places. Cafe 82 is a diner type restaurant that serves gluten-free breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's located on 82nd and Broadwy which isn't to far from that location. Nice Matin is also in the area. They are on 79th on the corner of Amsterdam, just off Broadway. It's a tiny bit pricey, but very good and they...
  2. This response is obviously to late for the specific dinner you were going to but hopefully it can help you (or someone else) in the future. There is a Japanese hibachi restaurant by me that I go to fairly often. I bring my own gluten free soy sauce (San-J) and my Triumph Dining Dining cards. At this point they seem to remember me and I don't really need...
  3. Unfortunately I have to agree with Andrew and Ted. Bistango is my personal favorite for Italian in the city. Opus and Lumi are also excellent. For pizza I love Risotteria or Mozarelli's. I know Sambuca also has a gluten-free menu. I haven't been there since being diagnosed, but went there several times pre-diagnosis and always enjoyed it.
  4. Glad you loved Mozzarelli's and Risotteria. They are both excellent! I actually never recommend Bloom's to people. In my opinion it's not that great. I appreciate that they have a gluten-free menu and used to work near there, so I ate there a few times, but it's nothing to rave about. I'm sorry the experience was so bad. (Although I don't think it's fair...
  5. Haha! I do the same thing.
  6. I want to make a crumb cake this weekend but because the Betty Crocker mixes make a smaller amount than you would normally get from a traditional box mix I am going to make 2 boxes combined into 1 pan. Has anyone done this? I'm wondering what the baking time would be?
  7. My absolute favorite (and the best in my opinion) are my The Grainless Baker. In addition to making a great snack or a yummy s'mores, they make an incredible crust for cheesecake or any other baked good you need a crust for. Whenver I make cheesecake I use these and always get the same comment that the crust is the incredible and totally makes the cheesecake...
  8. Unless I'm in a jam and have run out Bi-Aglut and Le Veneziane are the only pasta I will eat. (Tinyada if I'm out of both). They are delicious & can't be beat. Conte's makes wonderful gluten free pierogies. Open Original Shared Link
  9. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  10. My family owns Kosher deli's. Yes, pastrami is gluten free. As someone else said you generally can never classify an entire food group as gluten-free, but as someone else said, I've yet to find a pastrami that isn't gluten-free.
  11. I just came back today from a week at WDW. We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. The chefs in the quick service cafeteria were always extremely helpful and nice. For breakfasts I either had waffles, blueberry pancakes (they didn't have blueberries, but after I asked the first day the chef kept them on hand for me) or just eggs and bacon. For lunch I mostly...
  12. Great to know. Thanks!
  13. For somewhere special I would most definitely say Lumi. The food is delicious and it has a wonderful atmosphere. Exactly what you want for a nice, quiet date. The atmosphere isn't as special (don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, but Lumi just is very quaint), but I'd also recommend Opus 82. The food is delicious.
  14. Are you actually hypoglycemic? Even if that were the case, I would still say eat before. I'm sure we've all eaten something in the car before. I would keep another snack in the car for after the wedding. Again, I may be completely in the minority here, but I just think it's rather tasteless to whip out your own meal at a wedding. Clearly I understand the...
  15. I would suggest eating before you go. I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I just think it's in poor taste to bring your own food to a wedding. 3 hrs. is not a very long time. A few little snacks in your purse is ok, but I just think bringing a whole lunch box of food is a bit of a spectacle and uneccessary for the amount of time you'll be there...
  16. I went to Chicago last November and I definitely 2nd Weber Grill. It is awesome!!! We were there for 4 days and I think we ate there 3 times we loved it so much. LOL! Everything I had was great, but the cesar salad, onion soup and the mashed sweet potatoes are to die for! Overall Chicago seems extremely gluten friendly. Hopefully someone can weigh in with...
  17. Have you tried the mock rye bread from The Grainless Baker? It's EXCELLENT! You can eat it without toasting it and I frequently eat it untoasted with just a little margarine on it. IMO it's the best gluten free bread.
  18. I've been wanting to go to the one in NYC (Harlem) for years now, and I just never seem to get there. It's not the most convenient because it's not in Manhattan so I'd actually have to plan to go to Harlem. But I've heard Dinosaur BBQ is amazing! I called once just to see if they could do gluten-free and the person I had spoken to on the phone was incredibly...
  19. I love Mama's! I don't live on Long Island, but every so often I'll make a trip out there to go.
  20. Nizza is in the theatre district / Times Square. Less touristy than Ruby Foo's and closer than Lilli & Loo's. It's on 9th Ave. b/t 44th & 45th. Open Original Shared Link If you are looking to just grab a quick bite there is a Hale & Hearty & Chipotle on 42nd b/t 5th & 6th Ave. Hale & Hearty has soups & salads. They use a...
  21. I went to Nice Matin for lunch today and it was excellent! And not pricey as I previously had thought. They have both indoor and outdoor seating which is always nice. I had grilled chicken with bacon and roasted red peppers on a toasted Katz's gluten-free Challah roll. It was delicious! The gluten-free brunch menu is pretty extensive. I definitely...
  22. I read on another forum that Starbucks is getting rid of the Orange Valencia Cake. Not because it's not selling well, but because apparently they feel it's to much of a "treat" and not nutritious. They plan to replace it with Kind Bars. I'm sorry, but for starters I can (and do) get Kind Bars anywhere. I can get them at Duane Reade, the supermarket, the...
  23. For the UWS, as previously mentioned there is Sambuca. Also, there is Nice Matin (which I haven't tried yet, but I believe it's a bit pricey) and Pizzeria Uno. NYC has tons of great restaurants with gluten free menus. Enjoy!
  24. I 2nd that. The Conte's ones are fabulous!
  25. No way!!! Awesome! Dang it, I wish my office was closer to the Citicorp building. It almost may be worth it to make a detour on my way to work
