  1. I've gotten all 4 varieties of the mixes at the A&P in NY (Westchester). So far I've made the brownies and the yellow cake mix (made cupcakes with it). Both are delicious. I especially liked the yellow cake mix. I seem to be in the minority here, but I don't think the price is bad at all. Considering what we normally pay for specialty gluten free...
  2. My favorites are the crackers by Glutino (particularly the plain or the vegetable) and the Schar crackers. The Schar ones can be a bit crumbly, but are delicious.
  3. Just call subscriptions and cancel.
  4. I would say it is definitely the oatmeal. Technically oats are gluten free, however oats are generally grown in the same fields as wheat and processed, shipping, etc. in the same facilities. The potential for cross contamination is much higher than most other products. Personally I will only eat oats that come from a dedicated field and facility. Also...
  5. I actually just posted this on the Pizzeria Uno's thread, but figured I'd chime in here as well. I just ate at the Pizzeria Uno's on the UWS a couple weeks ago and the vegetable pizza was really good. I was heading over to Nice Matin (which I recently heard has a gluten-free menu), but I passed Uno's on my way and decided to give it a try. I felt rather touristy...
  6. I was very hesitant to try the pizza at Uno's after having a horrific experience there awhile back, but a couple weeks ago I found myself with some time to burn before picking my dog up at the groomer and being quite hungry. I was on my way to another restaurant, walked by an Uno's and decided to give it a chance. I have to say, it was great! The pizza...
  7. I'm pretty sure that most likely has soy sauce in it. Not sure, but I definitely wouldn't expect that to be safe.
  8. They are supposed to only sell the pre-wrapped ones. Because this is a new item maybe there is a bit of a learning curve and the employees aren't aware of it yet (despite I think they've been told; but not everyone pays attention). When I went I specifically told the cashier I needed a packaged one. I plan to do that in the future as well. Saves me &...
  9. I just inhaled my Orange Valencia Cake! It was delicious!!! I would (and will) most definitely buy it again. It is a perfect treat, that is not to sweet, but just sweet enough to have with your coffee or tea. A great job from Starbucks!!! I had previously read it would cost $2.50, but when I purchased it this morning it was $1.95
  10. The first thing I did when I got off the train this morning was go to Starbucks to get my Valencia Orange cake! I haven't tried it yet, but have it sitting here on my desk, for a treat after lunch. It looks moist & delicious! Can't wait to try it.
  11. I am going to Disneyworld with a very large group from my husband's family. We sat down today to figure out what restaurants we all want to go to and coordinate who wants to go where. (There's about 30 of us going). My question is, for those that have been to Disney, which would you recommend: O'Hana or Biergarten? I've read a lot of positive reviews...

    ARCHIVED Kfc

Thanks Elizabeth. This was pretty much my point. Yes, I realize there is the possibility for cc in any restaurant unless it is specifically a dedicated gluten free restaurant; and yes that includes my own kitchen as well, since my husband is not gluten free; but I think KFC has a much higher risk of cross contamination than say, Wendy's. I can't even...

    ARCHIVED Kfc

Even if this was gluten free I would never in a million years consider going into a KFC to get this. The entire basis of the menu is fried chicken! I wouldn't trust that there wouldn't be cross contamination.
  14. I just read this on another blog. This is sooooo exciting!! I can't wait to try it. Fortunately I have 4 Starbucks within a block of my office, so I'm pretty hopeful I'll easily find it
  15. Another vote for Joan's! She makes the best.
  16. Thanks but I think Wegman's is in Upstate NY. I'm by the city. From everyone's responses it seems like I should be safe. I'm thinking I'll just ask the hostess the brand and do a quick internet search on the phone to check If nothing else I know the carrot cake I'll be making & bringing is safe!
  17. I know she's not going to add a glaze because her husband is diabetic so she doesn't want to add the extra sugar. Thanks all for the help!
  18. I don't really want to bother her to read the label. (Normally I would, there is a recent sensitive subject - and the reason they are doing Easter this year. I want to make as little fuss as possible.) Maybe I'll just ask her what brand it is. Although after the green part... maybe I don't want to eat it anyway. Ewwww!!
  19. These waffles are great!!!! I didn't like the Van's ones, particularly because they become freezer burnt 1 day after opening the box. These don't and they taste so much better!!! A few weeks ago I made a completely glutinous breakfast "sandwich" out of the waffles after seeing a Dunkin Donuts commercial on tv. LOL!! I made an egg white with cheese...
  20. I know this question has been asked before but the search function doesn't seem to be working for me, so I apologize for asking again. Is baked ham gluten free? We are going to my husband's cousin's house for Easter and generally I wouldn't even eat baked ham, but I think it may be the only thing they are serving that I have any chance of eating. His cousin...
  21. Thanks for posting this. There is a Johnny Rockets in one of the malls by me and I've often wondered about giving it a try. Next time I definitely will.
  22. I like the Haagen Dazs & Dove ice cream bars.
  23. In my experimenting I have found the flour mixture in Annalise Roberts book, gluten-free Baking Classics to be a good standard. I pretty much always use that. My one struggle is I never know how much xanthum gum to use. I need to find out if there is some sort of flour to xanthum gum ratio. As for brands, I am very loyal to Authentic Foods Rice Flours...
  24. I agree, this is the absolute BEST gluten free baking book out there. She is coming out with one for breads (to be made in the Zo), releasing in April. I will definitely be buying that one. Every recipe I try from her book is incredible. I often have requests for the coconut cake from gluten eaters. Picky gluten eaters I might add! P.S. CMCM ...
  25. I just came back from there last night. I didn't have problems anywhere I went. There are several chains in the area that have gluten free menus (Bonefish Grill, Outback, Kona Grill); however my favorite meal I had was at The Grille on Congress in Boca Raton. They don't have a gluten free menu but the chef is very knowledgeable and even came out to talk to...
