  1. Maybe I sound articulate, but I have to proof read my postings about three times and I have to change and add things. I won't tell you what my IQ used to be, because it would sound like I was bragging. And I am not. I did not use my intelligence fully in the past, but I did read some very intelligent books and never had to reread a paragraph. I now read...
  2. I think this is a WONDERFUL idea and wish I could be a participant. But, I can't. When I post, it takes me so long to compose my postings that several get between who I am responding to. When I got so ill for those many months before my diagnosis, I knew that I had to do everything to keep the vitamins and nutrients in my body. I did not suceed and only...

    ARCHIVED Reflux?

I had severe heartburn for many years and took medicine for it. Then about 2 years before my diagnosis of celiac disease I started having horrible acid reflux. So, they doubled my meds in the AM and PM. After I went gluten free both were gone. The only thing I get is severe heartburn when I get accidentally glutened and then I repond within 3 to 4 bites...
  4. My husband who does not have Celiac did not think this posting was stupid. We decided that the first couple of Brawny will be thrown out and when we get towards the end, he will take it into his garage work area to use them up. It is better to be safe then sorry. And our "sorry" hurts .
  5. I am not saying that most of us don't have a reason to hate doctors. And Rachael I was not referring to you about celiac3270. I am just a slow typist and you got in with your posting before I did. My first comments were that I just did not find this hatred productive and I thought I could say that without being called on my opinion. That is what I find...

    ARCHIVED Noisy Knees?

I also think that I answered yes to every question. I used to have muscle spasms in my legs and feet so awful that I would wake up out of a sound sleep screaming. I would then rush to the freezer and grab the ice wraps I keep there and cry as I was wrapping them around the areas that were in spasm. Then I would have to try and walk the pain off. Sitting...
  7. Claire, When I dropped an additional 10 pounds this summer, I drank 2 Ensures a day and 2 Frappachinos' (sp). Both had a great many calories. The Ensure has soy and the Fraps have dairy, both of which I am allergic to. But, I needed to do something fast as I have found if I drop too much additional weight and don't get it back on fast, then it stays...
  8. I joined this forum this past summer, even though I had been receiving Scott's newsletter for over a year by that time. When I first starting reading the threads and the postings, I felt what a positive forum and I then joined. I felt that everyone was so kind, cheerful in the face of adversity and ready and willing to lend advice where needed. When I...
  9. It has been two years for me (today is my diagnosis anniversary). In the beginning I started to improve right away and I thought that I would keep improving at that same rapid pace. It did not happen that way. But, I was sick for about 30 years before the fast downward slide. I still am having a hard time with the energy. Today is such a day and I have...
  10. Yesterday was kind of a cruddy day. I did some errands in the morning and on the way home I noticed that I could not see the signs very well. And when I closed my left eye, my right eye vision was all blurred. I got home and my husband said to call the eye doctor. They wanted me in within 30 minutes which really upset me. They were concerned about the...
  11. Breakfast would be an egg and bacon cruisant or maybe two or three. And several cups of hot chocolate (remember allergy to casein) Lunch would be Spuds Fish and Chips (on Alki in Seattle) double order Dinner would be Spuds Fish and Chips plus the shrimp. Of course both are double orders. Oh! and then I almost forgot a cup of clam chowder to start...
  12. I think it is a great idea and if only one insurance company listens, maybe others would start to also. Another thing that might be tried is that a Celiac Disease association should send out a pamphlet to every doctor who is registered in the US and to every medical collage. It should be short and to the point with .coms that they could go to for more...
  13. The doctor who diagnosed me thought I could cheat after one year of being gluten free. Needless to say I tried it and found out NO you cannot cheat. He knew how to diagnose the disease, but really his knowledge came from the 60's when he took his exam. We had a little discussion about this being an allergy and I said excuse me but I cannot take shots to...
  14. Does anyone know where I can get B&J's wine coolers without the malt. They make them, but I have not been able to find any in this area (Mesa, AZ). If anyone knows there I can get some in Las Vegas (Bronchobucs?) I would appreciate exact locations as we will probably be going up there in April or May. Our hot weather will be here soon - a week is only...
  15. I no longer live in Mesa. I did live near Baseline and Signal Butte until we downsized in June. We then moved to Gold Canyon, just East of Apache Junction. I have not been able to find a support group in the Mesa area. I have been gluten free for two years this coming Friday. If you do locate a support group, I would love to know. Where exactly do you...
  16. I lost 53 pounds, which I needed to lose, just not this way. The doctor said that I would gain some back but I have not. I am 5"8 1/2 and weigh between 131 1/2 to 133 1/2 pounds. I have been gluten free for 2 years this Feb. 3rd. After we moved to this townhome last June, I dropped another 10 pounds from the 135 I was at. He did an MRI for colon cancer...
  17. I agree that the attacks on you are totally uncalled for. Each of us should be allowed to voice our opinion on any topic without the fear of retaliation. We do not have to agree at all times, but what we have to say should not be attacked. I thought this was a forum where we could get help, try to help and give our opinions. The anger towards other members...
  18. Welcome Dingo Girl. This really does get better and EASIER. The food labeling law will help. There are still some old labels out there so just look for the ones that will say food allergens above the list of ingredients. What helped me 2 years ago, was that I bought the blue binder book from The Celiac Sprue Association and took it with me to the grocery...
  19. I am so sorry Pamela that you have so much anger in you. I have seen far more doctor's over my life then you. But, you have to let it go. This horrible anger depletes you and can and will make you sicker. My doctor could not apologize because it would have opened him up to a lawsuit. He treated me great after that and I knew that was his way of apologizing...
  20. I am so sorry that you had to cancel your romantic get-a-way, Berneses. What a bummer. Also thank you for the nice email. I tried to email you back, but it said I had to PM and I don't know what that means. The other emails said the word email. I am not very up on the initial thing and am certainly not savvy on the computer.

    ARCHIVED Always Cold!

OOPS. Forgot to mention Jen, that I have been tested yearly (for anemia) and my cardiologist checks my circulation every two years as I have a minor blockage. Thank you for the suggestion though as it might help someone that is on this topic.

    ARCHIVED Always Cold!

It has just been under two years since my diag. After you said it took you three years, I am HOPING it will also happen to me. My family would love it as I keep the heat on too high for them and am still bundled up in the house.
  23. I was reading my Woman's World (page 13) and under the title "Wellness Tips to Clip" It says.... "Another plus for breast-feeding. Breast-fed babies are more than 50% less likely than formula-fed infants to develop celiac disease, a common gastrointestinal disorder caused by a sensitivity to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and, to a lesser...
  24. I was treated like a hypochondriac from my teens to my diagnosis. And yes, I switched doctors when I could not get the one I had at the time to believe in me. In the MANY doctors, not one thought of Celiac. I moved here, from the midwest, almost 4 years ago. When I got worse so fast, the doctors did not really know who I was, in the personality dept....
  25. I guess that I really don't miss that much (except the fish n chips-but I am originally from Seattle, yum). I was so thankful to be alive after almost being dead that I really embraced this way of eating. I have to admit that I do live vicariously - I look at the foods I can't eat and sniff. My friends are used to it. But, the one thing I have not had...
