  1. flxmanning-- I unfortunately have been right where you are and can completely symphathize. It is a tough boat to be in. I wish you the best and hope that things work out for you. Good luck and we are always here to help, especially in all things gluten free! Laura
  2. That is a great book! When I was in graduate school (2003-2005), a professor/mentor in our human development/family studies department used that book as one of her main textbooks in an undergraduate class that she taught. We read parts of in to facilitate discussions and it is a fascinating-and humorous-book!
  3. I agree- I own the book and have found it to be such a comprehensive source of valuable info. Now, I am someone who only had positive bloodwork and so obviously I disagree with the "gold standard." I carry it with me to doctor's visits for referral when they tell me incorrect info...I kindly set them straight!
  4. floridanative ---"Oh and the whole questioning me if I can eat something thing. Well I think I know if I can eat something or not. I'm not a teenager cheating on a diet behind my parents back. I'm 43 freakin' years old! Anyway, I'm glad I'm not alone in this aggravation." That made me laugh! I luckily work in an office with people who are caring about...
  5. You can definitely do it! It takes awhile to get used to it, but once it is habit, it makes life a lot easier. I was dx in grad school (i.e., no money and no time!) and managed to do ok and still eat well. Something I made a conscious decision to do was really look for "normal" foods on sale. This was new to me as I was a young adult getting started...
  6. Hey Nikki, Welcome to the board! This is a great resource. Most people on the board know more than most doctors about Celiac. Unfortunately, Celiac is highly un-diagnosed and often mis-diagnosed, and doctors have very little education about the disease and its effects. Luckily, this board and celiac.com provides a resource for questions and answers...
  7. go to the forum's "parent" site, celiac.com and read, read, read! there is a TON of information there, which will probably answer a large amount of your questions. Otherwise, we are here to answer and help! Good luck.
  8. Unfortunately, I have! Same thing---changed gloves, ordered gluten-free ingredients......got horribly, horribly, horribly sick. I was so sad. Many others eat there successfully though. I sure hope you are feeling better soon----I know it is no fun. Take care xoxo
  9. I live in VaBeach and this is a pretty big story here....www.wvec.com is one of the local stations (hubby works for them) that is following the story, for those who want to follow it.

    ARCHIVED Wendy's

I used to get horribly sick every time I ate the fries at Wendys......My guess would be that! Hope that you are feeling better!
  11. I would assume its made out of similar stuff that we make brownies with at home---some combo of other flours!
  12. Tinkyada brand pasta. It is delicious and by far, people on this forum's favorite. You can find it at many health food stores, some grocery stores, and online. Spaghetti, lasagna, elbows, penne, spirals.....etc. We made "mac and cheese" with the elbows and velveeta and my non-celiac husband likes eating mine better than "his" pasta----I swear! We serve...
  13. Hey gfgf! As someone who has greatly benefitted from the support of her bf/fiance/husband (he was there through it all!), I know that he does appreciate all that you do for him. Having the support of your significant other can truly make a world of difference. We are all different but I am just going to put this out there. I am an extremely sensitive...
  14. "An interesting fact is that celiac disease has only been documented in Irish Setters - never been seen in other breeds." 2boys4me-I had heard that there were some animals that have had Celiac. Have these articles been published--I would love to read them! Thanks for sharing.
  15. hey homegirl Unfortunately, that is a pretty standard response. I was extremely sick, got the positive bloodwork, and scheduled the endo 5 weeks later too! I knew nothing about celiac disease and the Dr. told me it was ok to start the gluten free diet (which I know now is 100% incorrect.) which led to a negative biopsy. Go figure! I would say...
  16. before you go completely gluten free, you might want to have your dr run the blood work to diagnose Celiac. If you are gluten free for an extended period of time, the tests will not be accurate. Just a thought!
  17. You might want to read Dr. Green's book "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic"....he is a leading Celiac physician from Columbia University. It gives a lot of background and info on Celiac and might be helpful to you! Good luck!
  18. What is your doctor situation?

    ARCHIVED Applebees

I used to work at an Applebee's....in general, they are not good about allergies. Even their chicken breasts have a marinade on them that has soy sauce, which has gluten in it. Fries are cooked along with gluten-filled items. All their appetizers, dips, etc. have gluten in them.
  20. The one that I use the most, honestly, is my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, and then make substitutions
  21. I am extremely sensitive, and have yet to have had a reaction to Amy's....I eat their "mexican" stuff about 1x a week for the past year or so.
  22. here is the celiac.com link that has a bunch of the research on celiac and breastfeeding, as well as studies about the incidence of Celiac in families. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=9
  23. It will get better, although it seems hard to see it right now. Once the diet becomes more of your normal rhythm and you get healthier and healthier, life will seem different than it does right now. I feel proud of myself for taking such care in my diet and ensuring that not only I can live my life day-to-day without the constant health problems, but that...
  24. tavalon-I sure do hope that you are feeling better soon! GreySaber- https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-20106411883.88
