  2. A gluten-free blogger wrote about this location - it is apparently just amazing. Janet, I'm so happy you were able to enjoy it. Open Original Shared Link
  3. We got both around the same time, and prefer Better Batter.
  4. You can always take your results and lab work to another GI for a second opinion. Given that the tTG and EMA (very sensitive/specific tests for Celiac) were both positive, your symptoms/history, positive genes, and your first doctor's interpretation of results, it is pretty darn likely you have Celiac. Ask your doctor for local resources - support groups...
  5. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can occur alongside of undiagnosed Celiac. I would discuss the possibility of your symptoms being linked to Celiac with your doctor, and ask to be tested via bloodwork. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Celiac and wheat allergies are two entirely separate entities. Since you have biopsy proven Celiac, you have proof that gluten (wheat/rye/barley/oats) cause you harm. I may find a new GI.
  7. Ditto. This is a great resource, so make yourself at home. There is always someone with an answer or opinion. Welcome to the board!

  9. Very recently, a stranger and I were talking about Celiac, which she has. She said she can eat a piece of pizza or a burger, but anything more than that, she begins to get symptoms.
  10. Two topics: 1. Ingredients for all the foods (no wheat, rye, barley, barley malt, or oats). Ask about sauces, glazes, broths, etc. Walk through each food with him and talk about each item. 2. Food preparation. Clean utensils, pots/pans, no cross contamination.

  13. Its your health - what do you want to do?
  14. I used to --- but would react sometimes....finally had to just stop. I think it was a cross contamination issue, as I didn't get sick every time. I haven't eaten them in 2-3 years. We have our own little fryer - and we buy the Ore-Ida frozen french fries and fry them up - no difference (other than convenience!) compared to fast food french fries. ...
  15. Tom, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know that is possibly the most frustrating thing you could possibly hear.

  17. Wheat is required by law to be listed for anything in an FDA labeled product. So, if you don't see modified food starch (wheat) then its not wheat based. Here are two lists of companies that won't hide gluten - if you don't see wheat/rye/barley/oats clearly listed, its not in there, and you don't have to worry about it being hidden. Hope this helps....
  18. I'm not advocating having the biopsy, or not having the biopsy, but you asked why people do (and these are just a few): To confirm the diagnosis, to assess the level of damage so that improvement can be tracked (if necessary), so that you never are 'questioned' by other medical professionals as to if you "really" have Celiac (many doctors only accept biopsy...
  19. The other part is that the IgA based tests won't be compromised (as would be the case if he were IgA deficient).
  20. I don't have recipes, but we purchase the Celiac Specialities ones....I absolutely love their little donut holes. Delicious. Ingredient lists that state that they are gluten free are usually gluten free. However, even if it says gluten-free, it is wise to always read the label and look for w/r/b/o. Do you have the list of companies that have...
  21. If you are going to have the biopsy, eat gluten. Do not go gluten free until after the biopsy. See if you can get it scheduled ASAP.
  22. Wheat cannot be hidden, but others technically could be. However, if it is one of the companies with good labeling practices, then - no.
  23. Bev, no fancy galas for us. Although I would like to be at the luncheon now. E said it was awesome....very patriotic.
  24. I'm anxiously awaiting pictures. Can you imagine the madness in DC now - people trying to get on the parade route, get home (with no bridges open, roads closed), get warm....and get LUNCH! I loved the little girls' beautiful coats!!!!!
