happygirl replied to happygirl's topic in Publications & Publicity
I especially love it when its accurate! I used to see the medical professional in the piece. She is very knowledgable, and has Celiac herself. -

ARCHIVED Is A Gluten Challenge Worth It?
happygirl replied to PattiD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Patti, I am happy that you have a dr related to Cincy....so many drs know little to nothing about it, unfortunately. Have your doctors come up with an explanation for the elevated ANA, which is indicative of autoimmune disorders? Does the EE cause it to be elevated? Have you tried doing an elimination diet? She might not be allergic in the IgE... -
ARCHIVED Just A Few Questions
happygirl replied to karma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, the biopsy is not necessarily more accurate, as the damage can be patchy, not enough biopsies may be taken, etc. Check out the book in my signature, written by one of the leading experts on Celiac Disease. I would obtain a copy of your records so that you know which tests were run. There is a full celiac panel, but many drs only run part... -
ARCHIVED Is A Gluten Challenge Worth It?
happygirl replied to PattiD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is just my opinion, and not medical advice. I would NOT re-test your daughter. She had a positive tTG. She has had some improvement in her symptoms on the gluten-free diet. She is still having symptoms, even on a gluten-free diet. This to me, indicates that there is something else going on, and I wonder if she has any of the other Eos. disorders... -
Deb, I am so sorry that you are having so many problems. I hope that you find some answers. My rheumatologist (my main dr.) just started me on Actigall for my gallbladder troubles, in the hopes of helping with my digestive issues. I lost about 16 lbs last year due to my digestive problems, and was eating about what you are. The only things that...

ARCHIVED My Boyfriends Mom Glutened Me
happygirl replied to kml55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
kml: Another thing to consider is that everyone has to learn. If she is willing to learn, then help her out by talking with her about the meal preparation beforehand. Ask her what she wants to make, and then talk about brands that are safe, ingredients, etc. Then talk about the preparation....clean utensils, clean pots/pans, no stirring "your" pasta... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
happygirl replied to dionnek's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't believe that fasting is necessary. I checked on the websites for Prometheus, LabCorp, and Quest, and none of them listed it as a requirement. Make sure your doctor runs the full panel: 5 tests! Best of luck! -

Some good information: Open Original Shared Link "Lack of concordance of endomysial antibody and anti-tTG The discovery that the enzyme tissue transglutaminase (tTG) was the autoantigen for the endomysial antibody [20] prompted the development of ELISA testing for tTG. This allowed automation of the test for the detection of anti-tTG. The measurement...

ARCHIVED Is My Doctor An Idiot?
happygirl replied to katethegreat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
kate: I had a very, very similar situation. positive blood tests, and the idiot GI told me to start the diet before my biopsy. My biopsy was....negative. . I hate it that there are so many doctors like this out there...but there are. I would recommend finding a knowledgable GI doctor and talk to him about it, if you have more concerns. You can... -

without reference ranges, or knowing what lab it was drawn from, its hard to make any statements on if it is low, normal, high, etc. -
ARCHIVED Hillshire Farms Oven Rosted Turkey Deli Meat?
happygirl replied to janelyb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy is safe for those with Celiac. It does not contain gluten. Nothing happened because its safe. Soy sauce is an entirely different story. Most soy sauces have wheat in them, including soy sauces that are used in frozen foods, in marinades, etc. For your own cooking at home, there are a few brands of gluten-free soy sauce, though. -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood / Neg Biopsy?
happygirl replied to Tigano's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could also NOT have "true" Celiac, but could have a non-Celiac gluten sensitivity. On a day to day basis, there isn't much difference, because treatment is the same: a gluten free diet. -

ARCHIVED Glutened At My Fav. Resturant!
happygirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd bet 99% that its cross contamination....it is a risk we take when eating out, unfortunately. Any of those things could have been cooked on/in something that had gluten, or a utensil was used that had gluten, or something had been dipped in the sour cream, or the staff could have touched flour tortillas all night before grabbing the cheese...... ... -
ARCHIVED Testing Family Members
happygirl replied to ~alex~'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Alex: This is from the Columbia University Celiac Center's website (might be good to have a reference when trying to convince them) Q: Why do my family members need to be screened for celiac disease? When the diagnosis is established in one family member, their first- degree relatives (parents, siblings and children) should have blood tests for celiac... -

ARCHIVED I'm So Glad I Got Scoped Again
happygirl replied to melrobsings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, that is the one and the same. It might take a little while to get in, so in advance, I would get all your medical records (including when you were seeing the dr that told you gluten was a problem, and the copies of your latest scope, etc.) Have them sent to you, so you can keep a copy (so that you always can make a copy for another dr, rather...
