    Did you have a positive biopsy? According to what you posted, you were negative on the tTG IgA test, and you had an elevated total IgA count (which is not a Celiac test, but part of the panel to differentiate if you have an IgA deficiency). Was there other bloodwork run?

    It would depend on the lab running it - it varies greatly by lab. Your best bet would be to have the doctor write the order for the tests, and then contact the lab and request the prices.

    Even if they do not think gluten is the problem, and his bloodwork is fine, they may choose to do an endoscopy and/or colonoscopy to rule in/out other problems that aren't diagnosed via bloodwork. Good luck, I hope you find some answers soon.

    It may first be helpful to get a copy of your bloodwork and biopsy, and see if you were properly evaluated for Celiac. Sometimes doctors don't order the right tests, or misinterpret the pathology report. Welcome to the board!

    If this is your doctor's response, then he has missed many, many cases of Celiac, just by sheer numbers/statistics, and the reason why it takes so many people so long to be correctly diagnosed. I hope you continue to do well on your diet!

    Keep in mind that Enterolab does not diagnose Celiac.

    1 in 133 Americans have Celiac. 95-98% of Celiacs have one or both of HLA DQ2 or DQ8. about 30-40% of the American population has one or both of the genes, so just having the gene does not diagnose Celiac.

    Unless you are eating gluten, and go to your doctor for the blood tests and/or biopsy, you cannot be accurately diagnosed with Celiac at this time. It does not discount that you have an issue with gluten (whether Celiac or not), however. BTW - Which BBQ sauce do you think has wheat?

    Please see the link I provided. There is not one perfect test for Celiac, which is why doctors use some or all of the tests listed. It depends on the doctor, the symptoms, and other considerations. You'll need to have this discussion with a doctor experienced with Celiac Disease.
