ARCHIVED Low On Antibodies For Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Cisforcelina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor probably meant that you are low in total serum IgA. If that is the case, all tests that use the IgA are going to be inaccurate. That includes the tTG IgA, DGP IgA, EMA IgA and AGA IgA. You need to be tested with the tTG IgG, DGP IgG, AGA IgG, and EMA IgG if they have it. Celiac, IBS (often a misdiagnosis of celiac disease around here), and... -
ARCHIVED Biocard Test In The Mail, I Should Eat Gluten?
nvsmom replied to GFuser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes! You must be eating gluten prior to the test. If you have been off gluten for 11 or more days, I would sugest dealying doing the Biocard test for at least a week, two would be better. The biocard test is a tTG IgA test (and total serum IgA test all rolled into one) and for a tTG IgA to be positive, you must be eating gluten. Keep in mind that tTG... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Igg And Iga Value 1
nvsmom replied to momof1boy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My kids tested negative too but we went gluten-free anyways because I suspected at least two of them had problems with gluten, and we were right. You could always request more blood work (tTG IgG, DGP IgA, DGP IgG, AGA IgG) and you probably should ask for the total serum IgA, which is a control test to make sure he makes enough IgA for the tests to be accurate... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
nvsmom replied to mojabimami's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
TTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older tests for gliadin intolerance) You only have the results for the total serum IgA which is a control test, yours is fine. Reference ranges vary according to labs. -

ARCHIVED Help With Results
nvsmom replied to Scarletgrrrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As far as I know, gluten intolerance does not cause intestinal damage, celiac disease does. -
ARCHIVED Could This Not Be Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, NCGI won't cause a positive DGP IgG. That test is actually one of the most specific to celiac disease, I think it is 98-100% specific to celiac disease -
ARCHIVED Ttg Igg And Iga Value 1
nvsmom replied to momof1boy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Both th tTG and DGP or AGA look negative to me. If your son is having symptoms it could be non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) which has the same symptoms are requires a gluten-free diet too. Good luck, -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have A Child With Autism Or Adhd And Celiac Disease?
nvsmom replied to dotsdots's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had undiagnosed celiac when I had my boys. My oldest has mild asthma, some allergies, mild aspergers, and NCGI. My youngest also has gluten issues but tested negative. I just made the whole house gluten-free and they are doing better. -

ARCHIVED New Bloodwork Says My Tsh Is Low...what Does This Mean?
nvsmom replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your TSH looks good for me, but how do you feel? Are you having hyper symptoms? You mentioned fatigue, what about the more typical hyper symptoms? Knowing your freeT3 would help, if that is high you might want to reduce meds but if it is fine, then go with it. Hashi's can cause the TSH to change, and gluten-free can lower your med requirements.... I... -
ARCHIVED Well I'm Officially A Mess
nvsmom replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At three month gluten-free I became quick sick. My hair fell out, my arthralgias were so ad it was hard to use a knife, my C was no better, and my fatigue as ridiculous.... I am not sure if it was gluten related or due to my thyroiditis. Look for other causes and be patient. Hang in there. -
ARCHIVED T-Transglutaminase Iga Ab
nvsmom replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your levels might have fallen, in fact they probably have if you are gluten-free. It just takes time.... My tTG was off the charts when I was diagnosed and after one year it was still double the upper limit. It can take a lonnnnng time. ((Hugs)) -
ARCHIVED Anyone Tried A Ketogenic Or Modified Atkins Diet?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Patti. I'm doing okay but I doubt I am staying in ketosis if I hit it. My carbs are usually closer to 20% at about 50 or so grams. I actually am pms'ing now so starting low carb is harder than I should be. LOL I will look into that book. I'm a book junkie and love to read about a topic through different approaches. I think I will look for ketostix too... -
I've got a few books on the go right now: Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar by Lustig Good Calories, Bad Calories by Taubes Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind (Naked Empire) Beyonders: A World Without Heroes by Mull - I'm reading this one outloud to my boys over lunch time lately... A good time for reading fiction or for school - they are...

ARCHIVED 40 Things To Do Before 40
nvsmom replied to come dance with me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Some years these can be really neat. About 10 years ago they were so bright that I would sit outside in our hotub, in January, and see them clearly in spite of the fact that I was 5km from downtown Calgary. I remember being able to read from them, and from that pinkish glow that you get from city lights reflecting on snow. Very neat. -
ARCHIVED When Does Gluten-Induced Body Odor Stop?
nvsmom replied to caraj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't say I experienced this either, or the people in my life are too polite to mention it. I DO get BO is I just use a deodorant rather than an antiperspirant but as long as I wash well and reapply antiperspirant every 20 hours or so, then I am fine. My level of BO hasn't changed. It's high for a woman but I am a heavy sweater... in feminine terms: I... -
ARCHIVED Keep Pursuing?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED Should I Be Tested?
nvsmom replied to bayba792's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That would make sense that you have the DQ2 gene too unless it is only detectable/expressed as a recessive gene pair (needing one recessive gene (not expressed) from both parents... My past lie as a science teacher is emerging. LOL If migraines, infections and rashes cleared up after going gluten-free, I would say that you have a gluten intolerance but... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Tried A Ketogenic Or Modified Atkins Diet?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks again for you advice. I appreciate it! I think I've actually been experiencing some of the lower carb symptoms/withdrawal already. I've had a headache for a few days and I just clued in today that maybe it was my dietary adjustments already. At first I just thought it was a really early pms symptom. LOL That's great to hear about the hypoglycemic... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Tried A Ketogenic Or Modified Atkins Diet?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Patti, how low are you keeping your carbs? And are you doing keto or MAD, or just keeping carbs lower than most? I'd love to know how long it took you to settle into the diet. I tend to get the shakes and light headed if I don't eat frequently enough, and I think it is some sort of hypoglycemic situation. I am a bit concerned that dropping carbs will cause... -

ARCHIVED Confused About Son's Diagnosis (Or Lack Of!)
nvsmom replied to yogatwinmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The AGA IgG is positive only in those who have a gliadin intolerance. It is possible to get a positive AGA if one have non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) as well as with celiac disease. All other celiac disease tests detect antibodies that (attempt to) do damage to the small intestine, and doctors only call it celiac disease if they have proof that villi... -
ARCHIVED Keep Pursuing?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have never fully believed that whole theory that kids hold it and cause constipation... I mean, what caused the initial constipation that made it so painful to go? I remember being in tears as child because it was so painful, and my mother having to "help" me. I just know that I didn't hold it back then, and I didn't as an adult either yet I used to OFTEN...
