ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
nvsmom replied to charlie76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're having pretty common symptoms, and nasty ones. Some doctors think two weeks is enough for a biopsy. Perhaps discus a shorter gluten trial, or going gluten light (one serving of gluten before bed) until two weeks before your test, with your doctor. You don't want to feel lousy all summer...of course, a gluten trial means you can drink beer. Lol -
ARCHIVED Bloated From Eatings Plums, Serious Wth?
nvsmom replied to Renegade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could just be the fruit. I know a few fruits bother me, apples and pears make me quite bloated and crampy... No idea why. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think
nvsmom replied to beadlet33's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
His constipation sounds like what I went through, if I was at all stressed I was lucky to go twice a week. If you get him tested for celiac disease the tests are tTG IgA and IgG, DGP IgA and IgG, EMA IgA, and AGA IgA and IgG. He will need to be eating gluten for accurate tests, so don't limit gluten yet (as long as it isn't making him too sick). Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Herreralovv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could have celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS - it has the same symptoms as celiac disease but no villi damage). There are over 300 symptoms and associated problems, and your ymptoms fit in there. Many of your symptoms fit Hashimoto's thyroiditis too, with a swingbetween hyper and hypo symptoms (but I'm not a doctor - just thinking... -
ARCHIVED What Do I Do Next? Help!
nvsmom replied to karencuba16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You are absolutely right that, for most, you must be eating gluten in the 2 or so months prior to testing or the results will be inaccurate; in fact, celiacs who have been gluten-free long enough will have negative tests. If you want to test for celiac disease, you will have to eat about 2 or more servings of gluten per day for...- 7 replies

I had C, and bowel pain (I was backed up) after going gluten-free too. My C finally cleared up after I adressed my hypothyroidism, and got my TSH to below a 1. Is it possible that you have thyroid problems? If you have had your TSH tested recently, it should be near a 1. I too have acne. Going gluten-free and dairy free did not help me either. I'm not...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
nvsmom replied to charlie76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. The anti-tissue transglutiminase antibodies (tTG IgA or tTG IgG) are pretty specific to celiac disease. A positive result indicates that your body is attempting to do damage to your intestines in resposnse to gliadin. Your immune system is attempting to do damage to your intestinal villi but that damage isn't necessarily uniform... -
ARCHIVED Why Do The Endoscopy/biopsy?
nvsmom replied to Half Asleep's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Wow. Itis really unusual for kids to have a positive EMA test, and which such a high titre too. He had the same positive tests as me, and that was enough for my doctor to diagnose me too. With the family history of celiac disease, I would say it is a sure thing that it is celiac disease. My doctor did not require a biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Ok...so How Would You Proceed?
nvsmom replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are right that the DGP tests (deaminated gliadin peptides) are really good tests for all kids... it is also a very good test for adults! There are a few board members who were diagnosed with a positive DGP test but had negative tTG tests. they run a few types of tests so they are more likely to catch all cases. Your doctor is a bit misinformed about... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Iga = 22.5. Definite Celiac?
nvsmom replied to hh4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Since your tTG IgA is over double the upper limit of normal, I would guess that it was probably celiac disease that caused your result. There is a slim chance that it was caused by chronic liver disease, diabetes, or colitis and crohn's, but that usually only occurs when the tTG IgA is just slightly elevated. Overall the tTG IgA... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Sure I Am Gluten Intolerant But Not Been Diagnosed.
nvsmom replied to Kerian11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Unfortunately, those with gluten sensitivities will be affected (feel ill) every time they eat gluten regardless of whether it is celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). I agree with shafowicewolf. If you can't do a gluten challenge to test again, then don't put yourself through that. You know that you are at the... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Sure Im Slowing Dying. - Past Gluten Free
nvsmom replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like the withdrawal I went through too. I was incredibly moody and tired, I was resting at the top of the stairs.... And the headache! That migraine lasted close to week. It hurt to blink. Yuck! Withdrawal lasted about two to three weeks, I think it was closer to two. After that I felt a fair but better for a couple of months until my body went... -
ARCHIVED Ok...so How Would You Proceed?
nvsmom replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
(((Hugs))) The doctor, in my opinion is completely wrong. The EMA IgA (endomysial antibodies immunoglobulin A) is usually only positive in fairly advanced cases of celiac. It is similar to the tTG IgA test but the tTG helps cause that initial damage in response to gluten - celiac eats gluten and intestines get damaged. The EMA on the other hand creates... -
I didn't think that Chuck e Cheese would get it right, like Dominoes did not, but it appears they have. Now it's just a question of whether or not I want to eat a (frozen) cheese pizza in a restaurant, or just play games with the kids. LOL Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Keep Pursuing?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unless you want him to eat increased amounts of gluten (slices of bread or so) for the required gluten challenge time (2-3 months), I would recommend having him go gluten-free. It is very possible that he has non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). If he had NCGS (which is much more common that celiac disease) then he won't have villi damage so the celiac disease... -
Welcome to the board. Some celiacs hit a withdrawal within a few days of going gluten-free, and end up feeling worse for a few weeks. I experienced crankiness, headaches, crankiness, fatigue, and crankiness... did I mention a bad mood? LOL Not everyone hits it, but be don't be shocked if it happens. If you avoid withdrawal, your symptoms could...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free To What Extent?
nvsmom replied to HuberNS92's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eating gluten in an individual who is gluten sensitive, whether it is celiac disease or non-celiac gluten senstivity (NCGS), can lead to a lot of inflammation and other health problems. With your symptoms, I would say that a gluten sensitivity (celiac disease or NCGS) is a very real possibility. You've been tested in the past and it was negative, but... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results
nvsmom replied to andrealw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It really is hard to figure out gluten sensitivities when the symptoms aren't GI related. I had no idea that my migraines and arthralgias were being caused by grilled cheese sandwiches until gluten was gone from my diet. It really is a strange thing! I hope you feel better on the gluten-free diet. Once you start it, make sure you give it a minimum of... -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy But Has Real Problems Eating Gluten
nvsmom replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's hard to say how it will affect your results. Some people's damage lingers for months or years, where as other people start to heal almost immediately. An endoscopy only requires about 2 weeks of a gluten challenge. Perhaps try to eat what you can now, and attempt to increase it in the week or two prior to the endoscopy. if you can't do it, then don't... -
ARCHIVED What Questions Should I Be Asking?
nvsmom replied to momto3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welconme to the board. Mommy2krj is right, false negatives are common in toddlers. Being gluten-free could have affected his results on the first test, and most likely would on the second. kids seem to heal faster than adults and their autoaintbodies seem to often disappear faster. If you decide to retest for blood work, your son will have to eat... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results
nvsmom replied to andrealw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your neuro ran the tests that most commonly detect celiac, but he did not run the full panel (few do) which is: tTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA AGA IgA and AGA IgG total serum IgA The first three tests will indicate there is ongoing villi damage (as is seen in celiacs), the EMA ia very similar to the tTG but detects more advanced damage ... -
ARCHIVED Hello - New To The Board
nvsmom replied to lcole's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the board. I'm sorry to here of your son's double diagnosis. It is possible that he could take some extra time healing because of the colitis, which from what I have observed, tends to really vary in how quickly one improves. Celiac has a fair bit of variation too. Some seem to develop normal bathroom habits within a few days, most seem... -
