  1. I hope you are feeling better and the tests stay looking so good.
  2. Welcome to the board. I agree that they have plenty of symptoms and should be tested, especially when you consider that it is in the family and that autistics often have intolerances with casein and gluten. (My own son has mild aspergers and when he is off gluten and casein, his symptoms largely disappear - although he did test negative for celiac disease...
  3. Lab Tests On-line might be good enough to show him: Open Original Shared Link
  4. Welcome to the board. I had celiac for at least 30 years before it was diagnosed and I did not, at time of diagnosis, have any anemia or low nurtrient levels - in fact my B12 was high- but I do supplement a lot, and I have a diet fairly high in beef and pork. It is possible to have normal nutrient levels and no anemia in an undiagnosed celiac, but it...
  5. Welcome to the board.
  6. That doesn't happen often. I think what is more common is that one will have negative celiac tests yet have non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) which requires the same adherence to the gluten-free diet. Good luck.
  7. I was eating McCains extra spicy extra crispy fries on and off for two months and gradually feeling worse and worse, and I couldn't figure out why. I THOUGHT I had checked all labels but apparently not. I wasn't getting severe stomach pain but it was enough to know I was doing something wrong - I was even looking into other food intolerances... I even gave...
  8. Thank you from me too. You've been a great cheerleader for me,even while going through your own health problems. I really appreciate the time and encouragement that you've given to me. Thanks.
  9. Yes, you should request celiac tests for your daughter. She has fairly classic symptoms, some of what you described sounds like what I was like as a toddler... only she sounds more extreme and I am a celiac. The deaminated gliadin peptides (DGP) tests are supposed to be very good for detecting celiac disease in young children. This is a run down of the...
  10. I never had the biopsy myself, but I did not feel the need for it and my doctor did not push it... But it's a personal choice. I'm sure you'll feel much better once they rule out all of the other possible problems and give you an idea of her villi damage. Speaking of damage, sometimes celiac damage to the villi is spotty rather than uniform. That means...
  11. The Anti-Gliadin antibody (AGA) tests are older and less specific to celiac disease compared to the newer DGP but it is a celiac test, and combined with your symptoms, and positive reaction to the gluten-free diet, I would say it most likely that you do have celiac disease. You could request more blood tests, or an endoscopy, to confirm the tests but if...
  12. The celiac tests are: TTG IgA and TTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA total serum IgA (a control test) AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older tests) Remember that non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) is much more common than celiac disease. It has all of the same symptoms, and the same negative effect on your helth, but it does not involve the damage to the...
  13. i'm not sure which tests were done on you. There are two TTG tests and I don't know which you had (although it appears negative), and I'm assuming that the IgA test was your control test, and not actually a celiac test. The usual celiac tests are; TTG IgA and TTG IgA DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA total serum IgA AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older tests) ...
  14. Welcome to the board. 1) is it reasonable to think that I may have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance? Your symptoms could definitely be from an gluten intolerance or celiac. I think it's a good idea to be tested for celiac disease. Make sure you have gluten in your diet for a few weeks before the blood tests. 2) if yes, what is the specific...
  15. Welcome to the board. Ditto what Peter wrote. That's about as positive as a celiac test (or inthis case - tests) can get. You should probably start getting the gluten filled foods out of the house. Check her vitamins, medications, shampoos and lotions (that could get in her mouth) and all condiments, spices, sauces and baking ingredients (like sugar that...
  16. There are MANY around here who have pain from gluten and who have found relief with the gluten-free diet. I started getting arthritic like pain in my early 20's which became more and more frequent as time went on. I am now pain free... I'm not entirely sure that eating gluten-free caused the pain to go, as it often cycled out after a few months, but I'm hopeful...
  17. Blood tests and endoscopies are considered very reliable for celiac disease. The highest false negative rate I've ever heard for a test is 25% BUT if you have a few (or all) of the tests run, chances are that a bunch of tests will give you a reliable picture of whether you have it or not. ... Now the stool tests for celiac are not recognized as reliable...
  18. I too am a SAHM of 3, all of whom tested negative for celiac but who are eating gluten-free now, and two are feeling better because of it. I would advise you to consider making the family gluten-free as well. It's a lot of work to act like a short order cook for every meal, and that's not fair to you. If you switch your family to gluten-free eating over a...
  19. Welcome to the board. I have heard many parents say that the want a doctor's diagnosis on a piece of paper so they can get their child accommodations in school in the future... Will your GP diagnose your child? If so, you might be able to skip the ped altogether. You could always do the rest of the celiac panel as confirmation of the disease if you need...
  20. I too had a withdrawl. Yuck. For me, it lasted about 10 days. I was cranky, tired, cranky, had a huge migraine, and cranky... I'm lucky my family didn't disown me. Hang in there and be nice to yourself for a week or two
  21. Yes. Keep glutening yourself until your testing is done. I recommend eating those foods that you'll have to say goodbye too - have a beer and an oreo for me. I have heard ranges of 4-8 weeks of 1-4 slices of bread a day (or the equivalent). If you have been eating gluten (except for that last week) I would suggest 2 slices of bread a day; for those...
  22. The total serum IgA is not actually a celiac test. It is a control test to ensure that the patient makes enough IgA to have an accurate ceilac test. I don't know of any problems related to a high IgA. I have heard that a low IgA is often linked to autoimmune disorders - like celiac. Perhaps (and this is only a non-medically trained guess) now that his...
  23. Welcome to the board. Ditto everything Neroli said. You could have non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) which has the exact same symptoms as celiac disease minus the damage to the intestinal villii, plus it is much much more common. You could also be in the earlier stages of celiac - you basically have both a blood test and a scope showing...
  24. 81F? Sigh... We've got more snow predicted for this week. It's about -10C right now. My crocuses are just starting to come up! LOL
  25. Welcome to the board. The problem with stopping gluten is that you have to restart eating it for a month or two in order to get accurate blood test results. It's possible that you will feel better in a couple of weeks if you stop eating gluten now, but you have to start eating it again, and feeling poorly, for weeks in order to have accurate tests....
