ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Issues
nvsmom replied to abemads's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I find myself the most hungry when I eat starchy or processed foods. If I have (gluten-free) pancakes for breakfast at 8:00am I am hungry again by 11:00 but If I eat a fritatta (eggs and greens) I am not hungry until the afternoon. I'm a big believer is not limiting your good fats and getting adequate protein. I think starches (rice, any flours, potatoes... -
ARCHIVED Testing In 5 Year Old Who Is Gluten-Lite?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never had "D" before I was diagnosed, it was always "C" with me too. I would go a few days without a bathroom visit, and it did get uncomfortable, but the pain from being gluten was very different for me... It was the pain I associated with getting after every meal. Best wishes. -
Keep Going Gluten Free Or Stop?
nvsmom replied to Tiredsean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you might as well get tested for Lyme while continuing the gluten-free diet. In Alberta, those Lyme tests can take weeks to get back, and I think you should give the diet a bunch of more time. I have/had pretty severe joint pain on and off for years; it would flare up badly, last a few months and then hang around as stiffness. It would be bad... -
ARCHIVED Things Could Be Looking Up.
nvsmom replied to brandyburl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ulcers can definitely be healed. My husband had some sort of antibiotics for his (20 years ago) and it's never come back. I agree that you should talk to your doctor about fixing it rather than just relieving a symptom.... Plus gluten intolerance pain can be mistaken for an ulcer... My back pain is linked to stress. It is always much worse over the holidays... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Testing And Gluten-Free Diet
nvsmom replied to glutenconfused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are able to clean out the small amounts of gluten that are still in your diet (vitamins, sauces like soy, contaminated baking ingredients, etc.) I think it might be simpler for you to just switch to a gluten-free diet rather than eat so much more gluten for a month or so. It is possible you are a celiac, but it is just as likely that you have the more... -
ARCHIVED Polyps? Ana Reasults. Weak Positive?
nvsmom replied to Lanimo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just remember that those IgG tests do mean something though, otherwise they wouldn't run the tests. There are quite a few members on this board that were diagnosed using the IgG tests. Best wishes. -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Some Test Results - Questions
nvsmom replied to Bbec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think your DGP IgG positive shows that something is up. Usually it is celiac causing it. I would strongly considerfollowing the gluten-free diet, or having the biopsy... and then following the gluten-free diet. That's the beauty of the gluten-free diet is that it can't hurt in any way unless you subssist on junk food but that's not good on any type of... -
ARCHIVED Polyps? Ana Reasults. Weak Positive?
nvsmom replied to Lanimo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The ANA ia basically an autoimmune disease test. As far as I know many, if not most, AI diseases can cause a positive ANA like Hashimoto's, lupus, RA, sjorgen's and others; I've been told that celiac can cause a positive ANA too but i haven't personally seen medical articles stating that. A positive ANA (usually considered to be a titre of 1:160) can also... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Need Advice!
nvsmom replied to alib91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep, withdrawl can last a few weeks if you go through out... sounds like you are. Wait it out and then things should start getting better. You might want to drop dairy or just lactose for a while in case it is causing you some issues. Try coconut or almon milk for a few weeks. L-glutamine can help with intestinal healing and might speed up the process... -
ARCHIVED Testing In 5 Year Old Who Is Gluten-Lite?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If he's eating some gluten, and by the sounds of it it isn't that light, I would add a bit more gluten for a few weeks (as long as it's not affecting his health too much) and then do the blood test. If his blood tests are at all questionable, or he continues to have symptoms, I would make his diet gluten-free. since you and your daughter are already eating... -
ARCHIVED Tests Results I'm Confused
nvsmom replied to Tigerpawtoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
...Everything Mushroom said. Beaware that you could have no-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) for which there are no blood tests at this time even though it is many many times more common. Celiac is starting to be considered just one end of the gluten intolerance spectrum; NCGI is just another way that gluten can have a bad effect on people's health... -
'Wolf - you might be thinking of the Romanovs, the last tzars of Russia... Those royals got a little inbred. LOL I have ITP (a type of thrombocytopenia) which is an autoimmune clotting disorder where your body targets your platelets as an enemy. White blood cells basically latch onto the platelets and when they they go through lymph organs, mainly the...

ARCHIVED Finally Got Some Test Results - Questions
nvsmom replied to Bbec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that a slightly elevated ttg IgA can be liked with thyroid disorders as well as ecoli. I'm afraid I don't know much about other diseases that cause a positive AGA IgG but I found a couple of links with more info: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Some Test Results - Questions
nvsmom replied to Bbec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I still think that IgA could just be your Total IgA Serum test... not sure though. I;m afraid I couldn't see or understand where in that article they refered to your test. Oh well. Post your results when they arrive in the mail and there are many around here who could help you figure them out. I agree that it's a good idea to test your kids. If possible... -
ARCHIVED Is It Normal To Lose Weight On gluten-free Diet?
nvsmom replied to Worried mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I lost weight at first too, about 15 lbs, but I think a lot of it was inflammation. My gut went down and my face lost some puffiness... I think very little of it was actually fat or muscle loss. -
ARCHIVED As A Celiac, Do You Notice Shorter Or Longer Recovery From Stomach Flu?
nvsmom replied to laurielikesthis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've always been slow to recover from a virus prior to diagnosis but I always attributed that to not having a spleem. Since I've gone gluten-free, I *think* I've had one flu for about a month and a half (not totally unusual) but it was much milder than the norm. -
ARCHIVED 7 Year Old Going Through Testing/ Some Results
nvsmom replied to nomorethanfour's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your poor girl. Well, with a ttg IgG like that, I think you have definitely found your answer; she is most likely a celiac. I would bet money that she will feel much much better after being gluten-free for a few weeks (after you are done all the testing that you plan to do) because I had a ttg IgA that was >200 with a reference range of 0-20 (I think... -

ARCHIVED Finally Got Some Test Results - Questions
nvsmom replied to Bbec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Which IgA and IgG tests were run? The total serum IgA or IgG tesst simply test whether you have enough Immunoglobulin A or G in you system to get an actual positive celiac test (on the ttg, DGP, EMA or AGA tests). To me, based on your lab ranges, it looks like you had the total serum IgA test done (you have normal levels so you could have further ttg... -
ARCHIVED Sores In My Nose
nvsmom replied to lynnieloo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Like bartfull, I get mouth sores more often than the nose ones... but I do get them once in a while. I'm not sure if they were from celiac or something else though... it's one of those really common symptoms it seems. -
ARCHIVED Two Doctors, Two Diagnoses
nvsmom replied to Dnwestover's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Traditionally, as i understand it, a celiac diagnosis based on a biopsy had to include total villi destruction; If the villi weren't totally flattened and "merely damaged" doctors would not consider it to be celiac... perhaps that is what is happening with your doctor... You have one of those stone-age doctors who doesn't stay on top of current thinking... -
ARCHIVED Instant Behavior Change In Son After Going Gluten Free.

If you look into research on diet and autism, and in books on treating autism, you will find more info there. -
ARCHIVED Hypo/and Hyper Thyroid Symptoms
nvsmom replied to Happyw5's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've heard of some people's thyroid issues resolving them selves on the gluten-free diet, or after their adrenal fatigue was treated, but I'm assuming this occurs before the thyroid is too badly damaged. If you can stop the autoantibody attack on your thyroid, you could (maybe) have your hypo/hyper swings resolve themselves; it's not unheard of... but I don... -
ARCHIVED Are My Results Bad?
nvsmom replied to webdevguy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The usual blood tests for celiac disease are: ttg IgG and ttg IgA DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA total serum IgA AGA IgA and AGA IgG (these are older tests and not used as often now) Go to your family doctor and request these tests before you go gluten-free. Once you are gluten-free the tests will probably be negative even if you are a celiac. Aftyer... -
ARCHIVED Tsh Is 2.6 And My Doc Says It's Normal
nvsmom replied to gatita's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
TSH can vary pretty widely over a few days. Mine can change by 2.0 in only a couple of weeks. Because of that, and the doctors love of the TSH test, my hypothyroidism was ignored for well over a decade. I remember getting a TSH test done 11 years ago because I'd been taking my basal body temp (trying to get pg) and it would not go above 97F; my TSH was right...
