  1. I have every symptom as you except for the asthma... and I was told as child that it was normal for me to have stomach aches and "C". I'm glad you found a different doctor. Instead of doing a celiac challenge (cutting gluten for a short time and then re-introducing it to see if you react) why don't you just go gluten-free for 3-6 months and see how...
  2. Yes. If I were you, I would get tested. There are many around here who have had problems similar to yours. gall bladder problems are very common as is hypoglycemia. It is usually the small intestine that is attacked in a celiac so your problems there could be linked... Get tested soon. Test your son at the same time. And you are right, keep eating gluten...
  3. I found recipe books dealing with food allergies at the library; there are a few out there that can give you ideas. I know it seems overwhelming but it can be done; I have to deal with milk, gluten and tree nut problems in my house and I can still usually find ways to make the basics so the kids aren't feeling deprived. Google is my friend when i need...
  4. (hugs) You've been dealt a bad hand. I would complain loudly myself. I'm glad you are feeling better and losing weight. Congrats. You must be doing something right. You'll have to be extra careful with so many factors working against you.... but you know that. Kudos to you for doing it. I made my whole house gluten-free partially because the hassle was...
  5. There is some magnesium in wheat but there is much more in greens, nuts, and seeds. ThisOpen Original Shared Link says: Green vegetables such as spinach are good sources of magnesium because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium. Some legumes (beans and peas), nuts and seeds, and whole, unrefined...
  6. Make some muffins or loafs ahead of time and take them. I really like coconut flour because they don't turn dry and crumbly as fast as rice flour products do. I add flax and protein powder to all my baking to give it a bit of a nutrition kick. Seeds, nut and hemp hearts all give a fat and protein boost to baked goods that will fill you up longer. I like...
  7. I'm sorry that you are feeling so poorly. No fun at all... but I truely doubt that your symptoms are all from celiac disease. The acne, joint pain and swelling, weight gain, and cold intolerance sound a LOT like Hashimoto's or even a different rheumatic disease. I went through something like that after I had been gluten-free for 2 months: my hair was falling...
  8. I noticed a great difference in my oldest son (10), who is also rather bright and has mild aspergers. Before going gluten-free he would get overwhelmed much more easily. If we had more than a couple of people over we could almost count on a meltdown, but now he handles the noise and people very well (although he will still often disappear for a few minutes...
  9. People don't always react horribly to gluten when they have a gluten intolance. I am fairly confident that I've had celiac my entire life but I was ill all of the time; there were periods where I had a lot of stomach pain and bloating, along with headaches, and there were other times where I had no or minimal discomfort (or I just have a really bad memory...
  10. ... I was just thinking that I probably should have posted this somewhere else... This is my brain on less coffee! EEK. LOL
  11. I had that flu that's been going around. It caused me (I think) to feel like I had motion sickness for a few weeks and the my stomach was a bit off for a week or so. Now I have been getting stomach pain in the mornings that feel just like I was glutened and I think I've traced it back to a ground coffee we use (President's Choice from Superstore). I seem...
  12. I've read that the majority of celiacs are "silent" and undiagnosed because they don't have the obvious gut problems, so there is a possibility it is celiac. Like Mushroom said, get the blood work done. Don't do a gluten-free trial first because that will clear the gluten, and the autoantibodies, out of your system so you'll be more likely to have a false...
  13. Low vitamin D levels are quite common now a days, and even more common amoung celiacs (possibly due to damaged GI tract causing absorption issues); I;m not sure how being Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerant affects D... Sublingual vitamin B tablets are a good route to go for better absorption. The best is liquid vitamin D drops. 1000IU to 2000UI of vit D would...
  14. Some of your symptoms do match up to a gluten intolerance; I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. Witha a low serum IgA, you are really limited in what celiac tests will work for you. You could be a celiac but because you are low in IgA, those tests won't tell you much if anything. The only tests you haven't done yet are the DGP IgG and the endoscopic...
  15. The serum IgA just tells you if you have enough IgA in your body to show a positive test for celiac in the tests that refer to the IgA (like ttg IgA, EMA IgA, and DGP IgA) and you don't have enough IgA to get a positive tests in those. It is possible that you would have had a positive celiac test (in ttg IgA, EMA, and DGP IgA) but I'm afraid you'll never...
  16. Those are all the tests that I know too. I think your testing is done. Because your IGA levels are so low, your ttg IgA, EMA IgA, and DGP IgA tests will not show if you are a celiac; your IgA levela are too low to be tested (about 5% of celiacs' IgA levels are low... higher than the regular population). I would completely discount those tests; if they...
  17. I'm sorry to hear of his diagnosis. 'Shroom is right, diabetes is one of the most common rag along autoimmune disorders that celiacs get. Hashi's is another. Best wishes.
  18. He has some symptoms so he could be celiac or NCGI... The problem would be getting him to switch to a gluten-free diet; I can't imagine changing my diet after 82 years... that would be rough. Good luck!
  19. Sorry you two are so unwell. I too went through a withdrawl; it's not fun. At your appointment, you will have been gluten-free for a good 3 weeks and that could mess up your blood tests and cause false negatives. The usual tests are: ttg IgA and ttg IgG EMA IgA DGP IgA and DGP IgG total serum IgA For all of the blood tests, you need to...
  20. I made my whole house gluten-free; I felt like I was enough of a short order cook already. LOL I'm a celiac, and two of my three boys has a problem with gluten, so it seemed easier to switch everyone. That way my gluten-free boys don't feel like they are missing out if one boy continues to eat gluten. There are enough substitutes out there that they don...
  21. Your thyroid labs do look good... I wish mine looked that good. LOL Good luck with the celiac tests. Keep eating gluten until you are done. I just had the blood work (positive ttg IgA and EMA IgA) and chose not to do the biopsy. Two positive tests was clear enough for me. Many people like to have a biopsy to confirm "iffy" test results, to compare...

    ARCHIVED Eye Floaters

It is also linked to uveitis (sp?) which can be potentially serious. Definitely a good idea to get it checked if you noticed a change.
  23. I too have a sensitive nose. As a mom to 3 boys and a red neck husband, I consider this to be a curse. LOL I'll have to pay attention to that. I know my smells change throughout the month and when I am unwell. I've never noticed a gluten smell. Neat. And yeah, why don't they use dogs for cancer sniffing. It's got to be cheaper than MRI's and tonnes...
  24. I would also have you younger children tested. IBS is a symptom and not a cause, the cause could be celiac. ADHD is often food linked too. What's Eating Your Child is a great book that discusses how diet affects behaviour; you might want to take a look at it. My three boys all tested negative for celiac but like your daughters, they had varying degrees...
  25. I chose not to have the endoscopy done because my ttg IgA and EMA IgA were very positive, and because I have had stomach symptoms since early childhood. I am guessing they would have found a lot of damage in an endoscopy simply because I ate gluten, and had symptoms for decades. Despite all that, when I had my nutrient levels checked, they were all great...
