  1. I am pretty sure that I've had celiac my entire life but I wasn't always deathly ill with it. Some months I was bloated, achey and my hair was falling out. Other months I was getting up at 5am to lift weights for an hour... My reactions really varied throughout my life; I hardly remember having a stomach ache during university when I lived off noodles, rice...
  2. I react like Birdie22; I get a stomach ache and bloating pretty quick and a headache follows a few hours later that lasts a few days. All symptoms seem to show up with a few hours , I've not noticed any that take days to appear but I haven't been glutened much.
  3. I doubt it's an ear infection. I haven't been sick at all but if it turns into an infection, it is usually in my sinuses. I've had auroas from migraines without the pain before too. My vision gets weirdly shaky at those times. The dizziness I've had in the past is of the room spinning variety. I have had light headedness from getting up too fast...
  4. I'm pretty sure I've had this!... Not lately but it sounds like me. Thankfully my migraines have almost completely disappeared after going gluten-free, and so has the dizziness. Whay I have now is not really dizziness. It's more of a motion sickness thing with a tad of dizziness thrown in... I'm not doing a good job of describing it, but I doubt it's...
  5. Oh dear. It could be another intolerance rearing it's ugly head (like soy, corn, nightshades, additives) or it could be a virus or infection. Have you eaten anything new? Are your supplements gluten-free? I don't have any advice, just best wishes. I hope it passes soon.
  6. It seems about 75% of celiacs show up in the blood tests. Others are diagnosed by the biopsy. Some are thought to be a celiac after a positive response from the gluten-free diet, but it is unclear if those are celiacs or non-celiac gluten intolerants.... As I understand it anyways.
  7. I had to look that one up. I've had that happen to me a few times a year since my childhood. It usually happens when I'm in bed, or laying down and lasts for about a minute. It felt like I rotated forward and was hanging off the ceiling. It never lasted long or had any side effects so I just enjoyed the sensation of hanging off the ceiling. LOL I...
  8. I am on 100mcg (gluten-free) synthroid at the moment, although 88mcg were prescribed. I upped my own dosage because my doctor said I'm now perfectly fine since my TSH hit the normal range (just below a 6). He said my continuing and unchanging hypo symptoms must be coincidence and from something else... no word on what that is though. LOL I don't take...
  9. For about 10 days, I've had an odd pressure, that is almost headachey, behind my face. My tummy has been a tiny bit off too; barely noticeable. It finally dawned on me the other day that I feel car sick, like I was trying to read in the car. It's like mild motion sickness (not as bad as I would get on a spinning ride though). I'm guessing that it's somehow...
  10. "Recovering zombie"... LOL Love it! Congrats on figuring it out for yourself and good luck with the gluten-free diet. I wish you continued success.
  11. L-glutamine is supposed to be good for healing. Before I was dignosed, I used to take it around really tough weight workouts and it really improved my healing time and next day stiffness. Many around here say it helps the gut too. Nettle (I think it is) is supposed to be good for reducing inflammation as well. Papaya enzymes are supposed to aid...
  12. I thought it was a really entertaining read with some interesting info; I had no idea that wheat had been so altered over the past 100 years. i didn't buy his weight loss claims either but that wasn't really the focus of the book, in my opinion. In the critique, the reviewer went after him for his (poor) use of stats but there was some thought provoking...
  13. Estrella in Canada was labelled 3ppm and it got me. I was so excited to try a gluten-free beer that I didn't read the ingredient label until the stomach ache hit. lol LilLil - I find the gluten-free beers aren't too bad. They do taste like beer BUT they often end up tasting a bit more like a home brew. I find they are often more yeasty that the average...
  14. I'm afraid I'm really bad about quoting authors; I probably should write this stuff down... I've read a bunch of books over the past 6 months on thyroid problems because of my own health issues. I would estimate that a quarter of them recommended that patients try the gluten-free diet to see if it helps with symptoms. I remember reading in one book about...
  15. We homeschool too. It definitely simplifies the lunch issues. LOL I'm not sure if those with NCGI won't have absorption issues or not. I assume that NCGI causes inflammation too but I don't know if that affects vitamin levels. Being a celiac doesn't guarantee absorption problems either. I've had celiac my whole life (I think) and was only low in vitamin...
  16. Every few days we make gluten-free pancakes. I'm lazy so I start with a mix but change it from there. For instance, the recipe calls for 1/4 oil, 1.5cups mix, 1cup milk. I use 1c mix, 1/2 to 1 cup of golden flax, 1/4 coconut oil, about 1.5 c coconut milk, 1/4 protein powder, bee pollen and cinnamon to taste (sometimes add cocoa). I try to "healthy it up"...
  17. Gluten is suspected in making some AI diseases worse though. Patients with RA, lupus, Hashimotos, and uveitis are advised to go gluten-free to help alleviate symptoms.
  18. I agree that your doctor must not have made the connection (or wasn't listening). She hasn't been eating gluten long, and I wouldn't be surprised if that affected her results... I'm amazed she had a positive test at all. If the doctor isn't ordering more celiac testing, and if you don't need an official diagnosis (many parents want a diagnosis for future...
  19. My oldest son doesn't do well with needles either so I understand that can be tough to overcome. If you do think you'll go for testing, remember that you must be consistantly consuming gluten for a few weeks for it to be an accurate test. If you've been eating gluten-free for a while, there is a good chance that your blood work will be negative regardless...
  20. I get bloated prior to my period, which feels like a glutening in some ways. That'salso the only time I get migraines now (used to have them frequently), and i get that heavy fatigue back. I KNOW it's not gluten though because I control my entire diet; I don't eat fast food or go to a restaurant more than once every month or so. This month was worse for...
  21. Yes, certainly. In the autistic community, many kids go on a gluten and casein (milk protein) free diet because these proteins seem to have an affect on brain chemistry and some kids (like my son) are more affected than others. Also, many celiacs have problems with lactose (milk sugar) which can cause a fair bit of discomfort and pain. That could also...
  22. I think what was meant here is that in the USA and Canada, maltodextrin will have wheat listed beside it if it is not safe. I personally am in Canada, and maltodextrin always has corn or wheat listed with it if it came from one of those sources since our labelling laws changed in August.
  23. I think most celiacs will avoid products made in a wheat facility, but that's just my opinion. I personally wouldn't trust them. I'd be as careful as possible. I once reacted to a gluten-free beer that was gluten-free to less than 6ppm... it doesn't take much for some things.
  24. I am pretty sure that I've read that the AGA tests are often more reliable for young children because they haven't had years and years to build up a high reading on the EMA or ttg tests.... I wish I could remember where I read that.... I think yout doctor is down playing the test. Why would they bother using that AGA test if it it's not a good test...
  25. I used to have stomache aches in the morning after my breakfast; I thought it was the coffee or sugary syrup on my waffles... turns out it was the waffles. I would stop with toast for breakfast if I was you. It could be non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) or they missed the damaged parts in the biopsy. Like shadowicewolf sugested, I would try the gluten...
