ARCHIVED And Now My Thryroid Is Off?!?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh shoot! Now I remember reading that low cholesterol is celiac related. And here I thought I finally lucked out with some good genetics! You're raining on my parade! LOL The numbers I have on my results are different than yours... maybe they test differently up here (Canada)? Or I don't know how to read it, which could very well be since I've never... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have A Closing Window Of Opportunity To Lose Weight?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A rebounder, eh? I've thought about getting one of those, more for my kids than me, but it could be fun. Hmmm. Thanks for the advice. And congrats on 6 months and your weight loss success. -

ARCHIVED And Now My Thryroid Is Off?!?
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gemini, whoa... 4 AI's....you hit the unlucky jackpot. I already had my spleen removed 20 years ago, which was waayyy before celiac came onto my radar (although I'm sure I've had celiac since early childhood). I had quite an extreme case of ITP. I remember being at work when the doctor's office called and told me to get to a hospital. I was so dizzy... -
ARCHIVED And Now My Thryroid Is Off?!?

That's a LOT helpful. Thanks for your time! The Stop the Thyroid madness site looks very helpful. thanks. I can't get to the forum but I'll try on a different computer later. I've hear that alternative treatments aren't too effective...I was hoping. I will keep an open mind on meds. I'll start looking into the various ones, as well as what my... -
Grrrr!! I just got back from the doctors to review my tests the doctor ran after I was diagnosed with celiac a month ago. My blood is fine (always good to know since I had to have my spleen out from ITP - autoimmune clotting disease), my cholesterol is fantastic, and vitamin levels are above average (even my B12). Great right? Almost... My TSH...

ARCHIVED Testing Younger Sibs
nvsmom replied to StephanieL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's hard to get an accurate test for babies and toddlers... This is tricky when they are so small... Have you been tested for celiac? I just ask because I read an article, can't remember where now - darn, and it discused how undiagnosed celiac mothers could possibly pass on celiac (triggers) to their kids because the antibodies could be in... -
ARCHIVED Are My Results 100% Negative?
nvsmom replied to wendy74's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it's somewhere around 30% of celiacs have negative tests so you could be one of those. Good luck with your gluten-free trial. I hope you feel better! -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free...welcome Day 40!
nvsmom replied to c-grote's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are comfortable with staying gluten-free with a diagnosis, then I say stay gluten-free. With an official diagnosis, you may get more support from the hubby (maybe) but unless your kids are extremely empathetic, I doubt you'd get any support there... Besides, 30% of celiacs test negative anyways, never mind the fact that there are at least 5 times... -
ARCHIVED Discouraged And Worried
nvsmom replied to kelly79mass's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My first few weeks gluten-free were terrible. I was incredibly moody and so tired. I didn't want to move. My poor kids had a grumpy mom... the withdrawl took about 3 weeks to pass. Give her time to shake it, and maybe tell her about the withdrawl... how it's almost like giving up a drug. It could help her cope. Plus I ate more junk for a while too... -

ARCHIVED Trapped Wind (Chest Pain) Constipation And Bloating?
nvsmom replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like prunes (I know I know) and strong coffee along with extra fibre supplements. I also always have Gas Rx or something like that, on hand to help get the gas going (wind bloat is the norm for glutening for me). When desperate, standing on your head or, from your knees, bend your head to the ground in a prayer-like pose... the gas seems to rise and... -
ARCHIVED Testing Younger Sibs
nvsmom replied to StephanieL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids are in the process of testing now because I have celiac. Two of my boys have symptoms that could be celiac but I'm unsure if that's it. They are 9,7 and 5. I am switching everyone over to gluten-free this summer because like you, I think it's better safe than sorry... and it's easier. While they live with me, they'll have to be gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED First Time In Restaurant Since Diagnosis
nvsmom replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks Lisa and love2travel. Luckily my symptoms are not as extreme as many others so it only puts a damper on my days. I'm away on vacation pretty quick so I'm planning lots of coolers full of food so I feel well. I'm sure I'll eat out and hopefully next time I'll have more luck. -
ARCHIVED Interesting Observation - Coffee
nvsmom replied to troykm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think coffee does that for many people. I'm one of those who never gets D but always has C so coffee is vital for me to get me "going" each day. Without coffee I'm at a full stop even with huge amounts of fibre supplements. Maybe coffee has more of an affect because our guts are damaged but now you are starting to heal so it has less effect? Just... -
ARCHIVED What Happened To Me? Could Celiacs Have Caused All Of This?
nvsmom replied to JoyMurphy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh gee... You've had an awful awful time of it. (((HUGS)) How unfair. We know it's not in your head. It's just your doctors' way to reassure themselves when they can't solve your problem. I hope you start seeing relief soon after eliminating the common problem causing foods and taking lots of high quality vitamins (sublingual or injections might... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Ever Feel Really Good?
nvsmom replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had periods where I felt great even though I'm almost positive that I've had undiagnosed celiac my entire life; I'm not yet sure what healed feels like yet. I remember training for a marathon in my 20's and hitting that runner's high where I started giggling while I ran just because it all felt so great. I never was able to run the marathon because... -

ARCHIVED How Long Until Ttg Down, When Gluten-Light?
nvsmom replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think you're nuts. It's that stat of almost 1/3 celiacs have a negative ttg test that would make me more likely to believe the positive than the negative tests. There are so many who get a false negative and, from what I understand, it is virtually impossible to get a false positive... Kind of like with a pregnancy test; you can't be a little... -
ARCHIVED Retesting . . .
nvsmom replied to MistyRG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I plan to have my blood work retested after 6 months and again at a year just to make sure I'm on the right track. I never had the biopsy, nor would I consider doing it to check since it seems too invassive for that.
