This caught my eye because I have never looked into the fining process of wine. I didn't realize that gelatin was traditionally used, nor that gluten is sometimes used now. I read a few articles (so I am no means very educated in this area) but it looks to me like gluten is SOMETIMES used and there can be trace amounts of gluten left behind but it is generally...

Welcome to the board. The endomysial antibodies (EMA IgA) are usually run as a titre with results that look like 1:10, 1:20, 1:40, 1:80, 1:160, etc.; a positive is usually 1:80 or 1:160. Could you post the range of your tests? They vary between labs a fair bit. Generally, if you have a positive EMA IgA, it indicates celiac disease. That tests...

ARCHIVED Should I Be Tested?
nvsmom replied to Healthsohard's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you happen to know which tests were run? Some tests are better than others, and some doctors will only run one or two tests rather than five or so. I mention it because some celiacs are positive in some tests (like only IgG based tests or just the DGP IgA test) so one or two tests could miss you. If they ran a bunch of tests then chances are you... -
ARCHIVED First Time Here: Questions
nvsmom replied to whtswrongwithme32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm the wrong one to advise you on that. Luckily I am rarely nauseated, and if I am then chances are I'm pregnant. LOL I just know the usual tips for dealing with nausea: ginger (tea or ginger ale), gravol, and homeopathic remedies for nausea (we've use a good one for motion sickness - occuline I think?). Perhaps start a new thread in this forum... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy-What Does The Second Biopsy Really Mean?
nvsmom replied to brighteyes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After only half a year gluten-free, don't be surprised if the still find damage. It can take months for the autoimmune response to stop after going gluten-free - in some it can take years - and then it takes a while after that to heal up. Hopefully they will see some improvements though. Good luck with it. Bruising is often linked to a vitamin K...- 12 replies

ARCHIVED First Time Here: Questions
nvsmom replied to whtswrongwithme32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be celiac disease. Most celiacs look normal in an endoscopy, you need a biopsy to see the damage in most celiacs. Even then, the biopsy can miss up to 1 in 5 celiacs. Ask for these tests: tTG IgA and tTG IgG (tissue transglutaminase) DGP IgA and DGP IgG (deaminated gliadin peptides) EMA IgA total serum IgA (control test of immunoglobulin... -
ARCHIVED Getting Kiddos Tested?
nvsmom replied to mfalbo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ditto! I think the kids' chances of getting celiac disease are as high as one in ten, and that's over their entire lifetime. Even if they have a negative test this time, if they continue to eat gluten they will need to be retested every two years or as soon as they exhibit any symptoms. If they are entirely gluten-free, they won't need to be retested. -
Test Results Hard To Google :-)
nvsmom replied to robbo1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree, that doctor wasn't much help.Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) never causes an elevated tTG IgG. That indicates antibodies to the endomysial lining of your gut and NCGS does not damage the intestine. It's a bit of a shame that she wouldn't test more. I'm glad that you have gone gluten-free and are seeing improvements already. With the positive... -

ARCHIVED Which Symptoms Healed First?
nvsmom replied to BarryC's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've heard those with NCGS can heal faster than some celiacs. I hope you have a speedy recovery! For me, my first improvements was with stomach pain after eating and bloating. That started to get better after a few days. My migraines improved too (until I hit some sort of withdrawal and they came back even harder for a week). It took a few months... -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
nvsmom replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm really glad that you are seeing a difference already. Most people do just fine on the Synthroid; it seems to be the minority that need tweaking with T3. Good luck with the doctor. In the meantime, google RT3 and T3. I liked (some of the) information on Stop The Thyroid Madness. There are a lot of other good sites out there who give more info on...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
nvsmom replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not great with interpreting some of those, but I'll play. Your TSH and FT4 look okay. TSH is nice and low (in some lower would be better yet in others, higher would be better) and your FT4 is just above the 50% range of your lab's range - okay but barely okay if you go by the assumption that the 50-75% range is a good place to be. Your FT3...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Weird Symptoms?
nvsmom replied to djsimendinger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, as SMRI said, they usually do the blood tests first. I just mentioned having it done with the endoscopy since you have one scheduled in September already. If you can get the blood work done soon, and you are eating gluten, then you may as well go for it since waiting for testing is often a hard thing to do! Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
nvsmom replied to alemon4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is possible that it is celiac. I remember a lot of stomach aches in my childhood, and eventually headaches too. Throughout my entire life, celiac symptoms have never been very regular/dependable - some weeks or years were good and others were bad. I too was over the 90th percentile for height and I'm assuming that is partially why my doctor never considered... -
ARCHIVED I Think I May Have Celiac, What Should I Do?
nvsmom replied to sen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Take your temp and document it along with your symptoms and dates, just like Gottaski said. You may see the patterns better. I am hypo and my temp was often below 97F and when it hit 98 something I felt mildly feverish. That slightly sick/mildly feverish feeling can accompany an autoimmune flare-up, I know it does for me. And autoimmune problems can run... -
ARCHIVED Weird Symptoms?
nvsmom replied to djsimendinger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Symptoms of celiac disease can wax and wane. They generally will grow worse with repeated exposures but not always. If you are eating gluten, get the tests done properly. They might be able to do it when the endoscopy is done. Ask for ttG IgA and Igg, DGP IgA and IgG, EMA IgA, total serum IgA, and possibly the older AGA IgA and IgG tests. Good luck... -
ARCHIVED What Were Your Symptoms Of Celiac Besides D?
nvsmom replied to hazelnutty42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm another who never had D; it was C my whole life to the point where I thought it was normal. LOL My symptoms were stomach aches, bloating, some gas, fatigue, hair loss, migraines, irregular and heavy cycles, plantar fasciitis, and a runny nose. I also suspect it caused/causes my ITP, hypothyroidism and arthritis. -
I would advise physio for the back pain. Treating the problem will help more in the long run. I had back pain for years and was a pro at ignoring the pain. I let it go too long though and now I have paralysis down one leg and walk a bit funny. Best to get it fixed up. In the meantime, I had a great accupuncturist who, along with resitsance pressure...

ARCHIVED Coconut Milk Yogurt....yum!
nvsmom replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like to keep the plain coconut yogurt on hand for recipes that call for sour cream - it's a really goo substitute if you are dairy-free. I like the fruity varieties too but I don't buy too often because of the price. -
ARCHIVED Ttg Iga 14 - Not That High?
nvsmom replied to hazelnutty42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You are 40% over and above the normal range... doesn't seem that weak to me. Yes, some of us had really high tests, but many did not - that's part of the reason this forum is so popular is because the testing can be soooo confusing. There are also those out there who had completely negative blood tests but a positive biopsy... -
ARCHIVED I Think I May Have Celiac, What Should I Do?
nvsmom replied to sen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. I agree with Lisa, get those tests done as it could very well be celiac disease. Coming from my own personal experiences (of low body temp, fatigue and weight gain) I think you might want to be tested for hypothyroidism, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis specifically. The thyroid controls your metabolism and being hypo can slow your... -
ARCHIVED Do I Really Need To Go gluten-free?
nvsmom replied to im1dermike's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Beer was always one of the worst for me - stomachaches and bloating which I attributed to the carbonation. Fatigue is a pretty common celiac disease symptom. What are your other symptoms? There are many, Open Original Shared Link, and so many of them are not related to the gut. I was pleasantly surprised when my plantar fasciitis went away along with... -

I was going to pipe in with advice but Colleen said everything that I would have said. I'll just say good luck again.
