ARCHIVED Input On Tests - In Normal Range, But Increasing
nvsmom replied to capetilla's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some fluctuation is probably normal but since everything went up, I would talk to the doctor about it too. -
ARCHIVED Do These Symptoms/endoscopy Results Sound Like Celiac?
nvsmom replied to PJD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good luck with the results, and ditto ravenwoodglass, its a good idea to run the celiac panel before going gluten-free. get ttG IgA, tTG IgG, DGP IgA, DGP IgG, EMA IgA, total serum IgA, and possibly the older and less reliable AGA IgA and AGA IgG. WElcome to the board. Let us know how the test results turned out. -
ARCHIVED Getting Tested For Celiacs Without Eating Gluten Again?
nvsmom replied to poneelovesyou's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten-free for, let's say, less than a year it is possible to still have a positive celiac disease test, but unlikely. I was still testing positive in the tTG IgA test at around a year gluten-free, although I doubt that is the norm. The endoscopic biopsy only requires a 2-4 week gluten challenge. Could you last two weeks or so? You... -
ARCHIVED Still Ill After 3 Years Gluten Free
nvsmom replied to liz1267's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Some celiacs are very slow to heal and some have damaged parts that will never go back to the way it was... Most doctors don't mention it but it happens to some. The majority of us will improve a fair bit in the first few years gluten-free, but recovery can take years which is super frustrating when it is implied that if we just stop... -
ARCHIVED Acne After Going Gluten Free?
nvsmom replied to GF-30's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I developed back acne in the past couple of years since going gluten-free BUT I started thyroid treatment at the same time so I'm guessing it is related to that and not to being gluten-free.- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Appointment Finally!
nvsmom replied to whtswrongwithme32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep. Keep eating gluten - about the equivalent of 1/2 to 2 slices of bread per day - and having symptoms... and losing weight. Enjoy those gluten containing treats just in case they are found to be off limits for you but don't over do it and make yourself even worse. Perhaps keep a food and symptom journal to show you doctor and compare back to in the... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know You Are gluten-free?
nvsmom replied to SMRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Icelandgirl is right, two months is not very long to be gluten-free - even though we feel like it is. At two months gluten-free I felt worse than I did at 1 month gluten-free. A bunch of my symptoms came roaring back in and it took me a couple of months to get back to where I was. I had a few more (more minor) dips in the road but I was feeling quite... -
When teaching I was a sow (pig) once. I wore a snout, ears, and pink long underwear with a curly tail and nipples sewn down the front... Those high school kids got a kick out of it. I'd love to see Halloween done American style. It's not such a big deal up here, maybe because by October 31st it is usually darn cold and snowy and really limits costumes...

ARCHIVED How Do You Know You Are gluten-free?
nvsmom replied to SMRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would re-read labels too. When I was about 6 months gluten-free I bought a bag of french fries that I thought was gluten-free (I thought I'd bought it since going gluten-free) but it had wheat starch in it. For weeks I was slowly feeling worse and symptoms were building and I couldn't figure it out. I think I was so slow to clue in because I was just eating... -
ARCHIVED New, Tired Of Feeling Sick, And Desperate For Advice! (Long)
nvsmom replied to jyogalove's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. I agree that a 4 day gluten challenge might be a bit short. If you can handle it, it might be a good idea to lengthen it to 2 weeks so there is a smaller chance of a false negative biopsy (it can happen in up to 20% of celiacs). Ensure a minimum of 6 samples are taken during the biopsy. NCGS is much more common than celiac... -
ARCHIVED Should I Get A Home Finger Prick Test
nvsmom replied to StephanCasey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used the Biocard finger prick test and it worked for me. The Biocard test tests for normal levels of serum IgA (the control line) and elevated levels of tTG IgA (tissue transglutaminase) - if it is elevated there is a line. When I did the test I had a very faint false positive line. I'm not sure if it was because I did not quite get enough blood into... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms Recurring -- Positive Dgp-Igg But All Else Negative
nvsmom replied to I'm a glutant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The DGP tests seem to normalize the fastest after removing gluten from your diet so there is a pretty good chance that gluten is still sneaking in somehow - how frustrating for you! How about new pet food, baby lotions or diaper cream, formula, soaps? Getting cc from a spouse or older kids? I would double check your usual stuff to see if something changed... -
ARCHIVED Did You Diagnose Yourself?
nvsmom replied to Rita L's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I figured it out before my doctor did. I first came across gluten when I was researching diets for my oldest son who is very mildly autistic. He had occasional stomachaches and headaches so I suspected celiac disease but I wasn't sure because I have had that my entire life too... Wasn't that normal? A friend pointed out to me that I should get tested too... -

I'm glad that the doctor hasn't closed the door on T3 completely. Maybe in a few months it could help. I'll keep my fingers crossed for!- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results For 13 Month Old. Help Me Decipher!
nvsmom replied to BrandySimms's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ditto, that TSH is high regardless of any normal range I have ever seen. That would warrant checking the TPO Ab, and Free T4 and Free T3 (which should both be in the 50-75% range of the labs normal range). The antigliadin tests (AGA IgA and AGA IgG) are not very good celiac disease tests. They can miss a huge portion of celiacs - the AGA IgG can miss... -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
nvsmom replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That's too bad it didn't work out. I too had D when I started the Thyroid. It lasted on and off for a couple of months and then normalized itself... It was a switch after a lifetime of C. LOL It didn't start immediately though - it took a while to get going and then eventually it slowly stopped. I also had a bout of serious hairloss when I switched...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Wondering If I Have Celiac?
nvsmom replied to ssMarilyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to start eating gluten again immediately or it could affect your test results. An accurate blood test requires around 8-12 weeks of gluten consumption, if you were previously gluten-free for quite a while, in the weeks prior to testing. If you were only gluten-free a week or so you might be fine, but if it was longer, I would not test immediately... -
Lactose intolerance can be caused by celiac disease, and sometimes disappears after months or years on the gluten-free diet. The villi are what make the lactase that is needed to digest lactose. Sometimes celiac disease damage to the micro villi will cause lactose intolerance

ARCHIVED Silent Celiac Disease With No Antibodies?
nvsmom replied to aria's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac damage is generally no uniform (meaning the same all over). Generally there are patches of damage, some are more damaged than others, and there can be a lot of undamaged areas. The surface area of the small intestine is roughly the size of a tennis court, so you can imagine that it is not hard to miss the villi damage during an endoscopic biopsy. -
ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination Worsens After gluten-free?
nvsmom replied to hazelnutty42's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure I understand what you mean... Do you mean that the autoantibodies are starting at near zero so the will go higher when you eat gluten? -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results And Hives
nvsmom replied to tiffswthart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The positive tTG igA test is specific to celiac disease about 95% of the time - unfortunately you probably have celiac disease. Most celiacs (around here) do not test positive on every celiac test they have run. If you have more tests run, like the DGP IgA, DGP IgG, and EMA IgA, or the endoscopic biopsy, you might end up with more positive tests that support...
