ARCHIVED Help Needed With Test Results
nvsmom replied to surprisedbyceliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I completely agree with Lisa (GottaSki), a positive celiacs tets is a positive for celiac disease. The EMA IgA is considered to be about 98-100% specific to celiac disease; that means that if you have a positive result, there is a 0-2% chance it is caused by something else. In the world of blood testing, that is a very strong result. Also, the EMA IgA... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
nvsmom replied to jglisson73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So true! At least it is something that won't require life long meds like so many autoimmune problems do. Celiac can be very bad, but as you said, it could be much worse. -

ARCHIVED How Long After "glutened" Until Kids Vomit?
nvsmom replied to palooka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It might not be worth it. From what I have heard, an "official" diagnosis is often helpful to get accommodations made in school but you can work around that if you need too. It might be different up here in Alberta, Canada, but I have three kids who are gluten-free, without an official celiac disease diagnosis, and so far I have managed to keep them safe... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Living Book
nvsmom replied to NickBerti's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Huh, a celiac disease book that I don't remember ever reading... That doesn't happen often! LOL It looks reputable to me. Go for it or better yet see if you can get it from your library. -
ARCHIVED Airborne Gluten, How To Avoid It
nvsmom replied to ceceliac's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hope you stay well. I think I would keep my distance too and wash anything that was exposed very well before using it (like cups or utensils). -
ARCHIVED How Long After "glutened" Until Kids Vomit?
nvsmom replied to palooka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
(hugs) It is tough to keep them gluten-free. If possible, it does sound like a good idea to bring all of his food with you when he goes out. It will be a hassle, and some people mighte even be offended, but it is his health you are watching out for. I have three boys who I keep gluten-free and I provide them with all of their food when we are out and... -
ARCHIVED New To Celiac And Need Help
nvsmom replied to GODSCHILD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Healing can take quite some time so make sure you hang in there even if you do not see many improvements over the first few months. Constipation was a problem for me for many months after going gluten-free. I had lots of fibre and nuts to help keep things moving. I also found that coffee worked some what too All fruits, vegetables, eggs and meats are... -

nvsmom replied to Magister Mundi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Discouraged By My Dr.
nvsmom replied to CanadianK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my province we have to put up with it because there are no options unless we travel out of province or country and pay for it ourselves... or are paying for extra insurance that will cover some of it. -
ARCHIVED How Long After "glutened" Until Kids Vomit?
nvsmom replied to palooka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it is gluten, it seems to affect people within the hour or within a day or two. I would guess, based on what I have heard from others, that the norm is within the first 6 hours or so. I hope he better soon. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Test Done: High Iga And Igm Levels: Is This Precursor To ...
nvsmom replied to Astrongtower's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are concerned then you should take your concerns, and any symptoms, to your doctor. This is way out of my comfort zone of knowledge. I hope your doctor can help you feel satisfied with why you had those labs. Best wishes. -
LOL I've had a dream like that too but usually it's dealing with finding foods for my picky gluten-free kids. LOL Anxiety dreams can be soooo strange. My usual anxiety dream dates back to my substituting days when I would dream that I arrived at the job with absolutely no resources left for me. Ugh.

ARCHIVED No-Cooking Celiac Options?
nvsmom replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry things are so tough for you right now. My go to foods are nuts and eggs. They're not cheap but they are filling. When you do cook, make enough for plenty of leftovers that can be reheated when you need them Best wishes. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Test Done: High Iga And Igm Levels: Is This Precursor To ...
nvsmom replied to Astrongtower's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Low Iga does not mean that you have celiac disease; it can mean that you are more likely to get an autoimmune disease (celiac disease being one of them). IgA is the immune system of the mucosal linings (like in the intestines) so I don't find it surprising that celiacs are often low in IgA... plus low IgA can be caused by serious malnutrition (often found... -
ARCHIVED False Negative Test Results?
nvsmom replied to FoodLover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ditto Ravenwoodglass. False negative do happen in up to a quarter of all cases, but it would be unusual to have all the tests come up as negative - the reason doctors run so many is with the (correct) hope that at least one test will catch a celiac. And those zeros really are not a common result. Kinda odd. Get those immunoglobulin A and G tests...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Apples, Really That Is Weird.

Raw apples and pears get me too. A really raw pain is usually the result. Some of the long time members of this board helped me figure out that one a year or two ago. -
How Long Does The Vomiting Last?
nvsmom replied to coquimama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love smoothies for plying my kids with nutrition. I add carrots and peeled cucmbers to fruits to make it better. I also always add hemp seeds/hearts for extra fat and protein. When I use chocolate protein powders I can slip in more greens like avocado or spinach and the chocolate hides the green colour. LOL Cool is nice too.... especially f it is...- 24 replies

ARCHIVED Celiac Test Done: High Iga And Igm Levels: Is This Precursor To ...
nvsmom replied to Astrongtower's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with those conditions so I can't offer any advice. For info on celiac disease or hypothyroidism, I can sometimes help but I wouldn't dare offer advice on this since I know next to nothing. I do wish you good luck in finding answers soon though. -

How Long Does The Vomiting Last?
nvsmom replied to coquimama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I forgot to mention dairy. About half of all celiacs are lactose intolerant when they are diagnosed. That could cause some problems for him too until he is healed in about 6 months or more.- 24 replies
