  1. I'm glad you had the other celiac tests (not listed in your previous post) done besides the endomysial test you listed. Many doctors just give one or two tests and think that should catch all celiacs. A colonoscopy will not test for celiac disease though. For a celiac disease test, doctors do an endoscopic biopsy - they go in through our other end and...
  2. Yeah! Another excuse for making leftovers!
  3. My kids did not have joint problems but I remember joint pain by late elementary school, and as an adult I associated my joint pain with feeling poorly - I would call it a flare-up. When I would flare-up I would feel quite flusih but I wasn't truly sick and did not get a cough or runny nose to go with it, and it was followed by weeks or months of sore joints...
  4. The tTg is usually one of the last to drop and it can be very slow. I know at a year gluten-free mine was still abnormal but not by much, and my EMA was completely normal. There have been other members of this board whose ttG stayed elevated for a few years. It just takes longer for some of our bodies to calm down. That being said, I think it's always...
  5. Your kids have had some bad luck. Poor guys. The genetic test is not the end all be all BUT it is usually correct. I believe it is 97% of celiacs have the DQ 2 and DQ8 genes, but 3% of celiacs do not. It is possible to get celiac disease without those genetics, it is just unlikely There is someone around here (I think it was Ravenwoodglass)...
  6. This is just a guess, but could it be a bit of conditioning to heave after eating that is helping to cause this? I mention it because when I was pregnant I was sick multiple times in a day and lost 20 pounds in the first couple of months. I couldn't keep in much. When the nausea started to pass, if I even looked at a toilet bowl it would come roaring back...
  7. I don't know a lot about immunoglobulins except that elevated levels may mean something is wrong with your health or it may not. It is not a very specific test to certain diseases though. I would google elevated levels of IgA and such and see what is there. Further look into the think listed like lupus or liver disease and see if any could apply to you...
  8. LOL Cupcakes - excellent! I vote celebrate them all! Now that symptom free one... that is a tough one to get to get to. If you get to that anniversary, celebrate it well. Congratulations!
  9. The autoantibodies can linger in the blood for a varying length of time. I would guess that two weeks gluten-free is not enough time to get your autoantibodies down to normal but it could be. There are a few people around here who had their tests go down to normal within a few weeks of eating gluten-free. There are also a few people who were high after...
  10. Up here it's a bit harder to fire doctors. It can be done but then you have to get another referral and start at the back of the line. To this date I have never been to a GI specialist; the wait for celiac disease issues was one year in my city of over a million, so I skipped it entirely... Of course, since you are not going back on gluten to do more testing...
  11. Oh geez. LOL Oops!! 1/2 c coconut flour. Thanks.
  12. Pancakes! 8 eggs (or sub in mashed bananas for some eggs) 1 3/4 c coconut milk 1/4 c coconut oil 1/4 c sprouted chia 1/2 c flax meal 1/4 c hemp seeds about 1/3 to 1/2 c protein powder (vega chocolate) dash salt about 1/2 to 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla These are hearty so I don't feel as guilty when my kids pour syrup on...

    ARCHIVED Addison's

I was quite nervous about the addison's too. It's a bit of a scary one. Your symptoms do sound a LOT like mine did. I too have celiac and Hashis (I've never swung hyper) as well as one other AI disease. I get muscle cramps (legs) but I also get back spasms that get so tight that I am completely crooked to the side and forward no matter what drugs I tried...
  14. Ugh. How frustrating for you! You did everything right and they messed it up. Sigh. You could always request the DGP IgA form you other doctor and compare it to your earlier one. Sometimes tests can linger high for a while, although the DGP tests are often some of the first to come down. Well, I guess you can tell people that you had celiac tests...
  15. An article with some links to list for gluten-free Halloween candy was posted in our Publicity and Publications forum that I thought I'd re-post here in case some of you didn't see it. This is largely second hand info so check the packages to be sure it is safe Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link These are...

    ARCHIVED Addison's

I had one doctor who suspected low adrenal function and started treating my for it before testing me for Addison's (dummy). He started me on fludricortisone for the postural hypotension, and hydrocortisone since I was on the low side of normal and my testosterone was a bit low too. I sort of wish he hadn't treated me at all because it is really tough to...
  17. I always use a gluten-free cookie crumb crust. Crush the cookies until you have a cup or so or crumbs and add 1/4-1/2 c melted butter (or Earth Balance if you are dairy free). Bake that at about 350F for about 10 minutes and then add your other ingredients once it has cooled a tiny bit. Pretty easy, and good as a cream cheese pie crust too I like using...
  18. This is an older article written by the Onion about how to live gluten-free. Strangely it is funny yet true.... Open Original Shared Link
  19. I agree with cyclinglady, it usually takes a few days to a few weeks to feel better. Two weeks seems the average for starting to feel well again but quite a few are still fatigued and "off" a month later. I also agree that he should have his own packed food at the base. They've proven that they can mess it up. It is better to be safe than sorry, so if...
  20. Poor kid. I agree that withdrawal could have been part of the problem. After being gluten-free for a few days I hit withdrawal (from carbs or gluten or what I have no idea) and I felt even worse than before. I had a horrendous migraine and fatigue, and my mood was really low - I was annoying myself already. It lasted close to two weeks but for some it...
  21. Try not to be scared about this. Almost all celiacs recover well after a time on the gluten-free diet. It's scary and hard to learn a new way of cooking and baking, but after a few tough months, you will settle in. Hang in there.
  22. Ditto Kareng. My guess is that it is your increased libido coming out. I know mine increased when I was getting better, and really, who wants sex when they are sick and bloated? I already felt too full and then to add more...it just wasn't appealing. LOL Okay, well I'm sure some celiacs still craved sex but my libido fell to that of an octogenarian. ...
  23. The only people who do not give off that "you prima dona" vibe is my mother, my SIL (most of the time ) and other friends who also have a food sensitivity. I have not problem with though. I don't eat out a lot so it's usually only for a few meals per year. Besides, if they didn't judge me on that, they'd probably find something else to judge me on! LOL...
  24. A few days ago my mom was complaining about how bad doctors are now a days but I was disagreeing with her. I think doctors are better now because they know more BUT we, the patients, also know more so when they screw up and miss things we can call them on it. Looking through my old medical records, I found a bunch of mistakes that should have been addressed...
  25. LOL I like that plan. Her turkey turned out beautifully. They used the Char-Broil's oil free deep fryer. It uses propane and cooks it quickly. She had about a small 15 pound turkey and it was done in just over two hours.... I gotta say that it was funny to be cooking a turkey in the garage though. The garage sure smelled good. LOL We were lucky it...
