ARCHIVED My Story--Looking For Similar People
nvsmom replied to dch028's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get the twitches in some muscles but it's not severe. It's enough that I can watch my muscles bounce around but it doesn't last long. Quad twitches are the most obvious and common for me. I get mouth sores too. Those are related to many autoimmune diseases though. I still get them on occasion, but not as often as I did while eating gluten. They often...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Hi, New Here
nvsmom replied to faiths13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would get all of your kids tested. Many kids don't have obvious symptoms but are hurting themselves everytime they eat a PB&J sandwich. Plus, it sounds like you will be going gluten-free regardless of your results (for non-celiac gluten intolerance [NCGI] or celiac disease) so your kids will be eating less wheat too and that will affect your results... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Gluten Intolerance?
nvsmom replied to elisa99's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am a celiac and I do not always respond with obvious symptoms when I am glutened. In me, the symptoms often tend to build over time... usually. The last time I am sure I ate gluten was last winter. I slowly started feeling poorly, worse and worse. It was not bad at first but then I had migraines and fatigue, and I started to get bloated again. I wasn't... -

ARCHIVED Ttg Still Positive After 6 Mos.
nvsmom replied to greenbeanie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The tTG tests are slow to come down. Did they test the DGP (deaminated gliadin peptides) as that one is a better test for checking how gluten-free you are - it tends to go up and down faster. How about the EMA IgA? That one shows advanced damage and usually comes down before the tTG tests too. The tTG IgA can also be elevated from other health problems... -
ARCHIVED New To The Forum, Questions
nvsmom replied to EmilyE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI) react to oats even if they are gluten-free. I don't really understand the why of it, but it happens... And new posts sometimes take a few minutes to an hour to show up for the new board members. That will change after you've been posting a while. Welcome to the board. -
ARCHIVED I Got My Results Don't Know What To Do Next, Please Advise
nvsmom replied to tallypop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ditto The previous posters, you only had one test and it does not catch all celiacs, and could even be invalid if you are IgA deficient - more testing would be helpful. Keep eating gluten until you are done testing. You wrote : Those are just descriptors of symptoms, none actually answer the question "why" you are feeling poorly. I would push for... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Diet And Fatigue
nvsmom replied to mena's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. It tool me a few months of eating gluten free before I felt better, but what really got me feeling better with more energy was getting my thyroid treated with a T3 and T4 combination drug and addressing my adrenal fatigue. If you have been gluten-free for many months, then perhaps look into other causes like Hashimoto's thyroiditis... -

Good luck with the yogurt! I'm glad you're getting more positive too. You sound like you are moving in the right direction. -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Labs
nvsmom replied to snowmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Slow growth is one possible symptom, it is not found in all celiacs. I was a huge kid - well, tall anyway. I was 5'8" and 130lbs in grade six (I was 12). I have a picture of me standing next to my teacher and I was taller than him... I was the tallest in a school of over 700 kids but I am sure I had celiac disease from babyhood and I remember those early... -
I've had tremors for a good ten years since I was 30... I think I'm the baby in this. LOL

Bummer. So what is a level 3 winter warning? We don't have anything like that up here. Occasionally they will close highway if it blizzards, or the schools if it is below -35 or we get over a foot of snow (but that doesn't happen every year), but the stores always seem to stay open... Yesterday it was -27C and today it is 5C... weird.

nvsmom replied to GF in BC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you are ahead of many people who assume all of their symptoms are from gluten. Yes, it could be gluten but it could be some other sensitivity that is bothering you. Being aware of that will help you figure it all out faster! For me, dairy used to give me the same raw stomach ache that gluten would. Then I found out, with help from this forum... -
ARCHIVED Off Gluten Before Blood Test
nvsmom replied to Lirren's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would guess that no, 6 days would not be enough to lower your antibody level to normal, but you could be one with low levels who react quickly. Plus some tests revert to normal faster. DGP IgA and DGP IgG detect celiac earlier and seem to go to normal faster on a gluten-free diet. The EMA test is positive only when damage is advanced and would probably... -

What was the normal range of the tTG IgA test? If it was 0-4, the 3.4 is a pretty high result if he is IgA deficient (1/20 celiacs is low in IgA which is higher than the regular population). I agree that the DGP IgG would be a good test to request along with the tTG IgG. The DGP IgG is good at detecting early celiac, like in toddlers, compared to the... -

I through water at the cats to keep them out of our yard.... At those temps, water would probably concuss the thing. Lol That is just nasty.... It's -25C here now. Cold enough to freeze nostril hairs and make you cough, but there's no wind so it's not horrendous. Your weather is just ... Wrong. I get the cracked skin too because it is so dry here... -
ARCHIVED Unconfirmed Diagnosis - And Lots Of Anger
nvsmom replied to GF in BC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be the milk. Lactose intolerance is common among celiacs because our lactase enzymes (needed to digest the milk sugar, lactose) are made on the intestinal villi which are often destroyed when we first go gluten free. Many of those who are lactose intolerant regain the ability to consume dairy/lactose after 6 months to a year gluten-free. -

That's a lake? Wow. Neat spot! Liver disease, and I believe primary liver cancer, are linked to celiac disease too. I don't know if it is a strong link though. Open Original Shared Link Your son should probably be tested again and try the diet if he suspects gluten is a problem for him. Best wishes -
ARCHIVED Not Getting Better?
nvsmom replied to MarionG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dizziness could be a hypoglycemic thing or something to do with low blood pressure - both are not always gluten linked. Is you dizziness helped by eating? You may need to eat lower GIfoods more frequently. Diabetes is common in those with celiac disease so you might want to check it out if that is a possibility for you. You are still pretty new to the... -
ARCHIVED Advice Re Low Carb, Moderate Protein, High Fat Diet?

I've dabbled in keto diets but full off the wagon over Halloween and the holidays and never stayed the course long enough to get into ketogenesis. Our weather has gone schizo. On New Years it snowed a few inches, then it warmed up well above zero for a few days. Now it's snowing again and tomorrow's high is -20 something. Our daily highes are bouncing up and down 30C every few days. -
Jack Frost is really going all out this year isn't he? LOL It's no rush with thyroid problems. It takes months and months to sort out the right meds. I think I was on my 10 month of meds before we finally got it right. You've got plenty of time to learn "German". LOL

ARCHIVED Joint Pain/ Appendicitis / Celiac
nvsmom replied to Kathyl067's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've never had appendix problems (thank goodness - ouch!) but I have had joint pain since my 20's. Arthralgias are a fairly common symptom of celiac disease. They can take months to a few years to improve. It took a good 6 month gluten-free for mine to start to improve. Best wishes. -
ARCHIVED Did I Do The Right Thing Requesting A Blood Test?
nvsmom replied to Hadenuff20's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad you are getting tested! You have enough symptoms to warrant testing - no doubt about it. Do you have thrombocytopenia? I ask because I have ITP. It was an acute case 20 years ago before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I have since learned that it is a strong, but relatively rare, symptom of celiac disease. If your test does come back negative...
