ARCHIVED New, Have Some Questions About My Children
nvsmom replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It wasn't with waiting for in my kids' situation. They ad some symptoms that were gastro related but my oldest had cognitive and concentration issues (we suspect mild aspergers but never completed the diagnostic testing because we homeschool - a diagnosis wouldn't affect his life. Anyway, we knew I was a celiac so thy had the tTG IgA tests (I'm in Alberta... -
ARCHIVED Maybe Gluten Ataxia?
nvsmom replied to joshy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
question is could i have gluten ataxia? You could. Gluten ataxia may occur (as far I understand it) in those that have celiac disease or non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI). You were tested for celiac disease, although possibly not accurately due to the short length of your gluten challenge, because many symptoms improved on the gluten-free diet, I... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Trying To Diagnose Me With A Somatization Disorder
nvsmom replied to lovechild's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm in Calgary, although I'm loathe to admit it after yesterday's western final game. LOL I hear you about the hair loss. Mine was horrible when I first started Synthroid, I actually went into an autoimmune fare up and felt even worse. When I switched to Thyroid I also had some renewed hair loss again... it seems to take a couple of months to calm down... -
ARCHIVED New , Looking For Info
nvsmom replied to Rach7982's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About 1/20 celiacs are deficient in IgA which is higher than the regular population. It is not a great cause for concern but it does affect some celiac tests like the tTG IgA, DGP IgA, and EMA IgA. You'll need to run the IgG versions of those tests and hope for the best - IgG based tests have more false negatives. You could also ave an endoscopic biopsy... -

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac? Advice Please
nvsmom replied to Cyberhawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope the tests are conclusive. The EMA IgA is a good test but I'm glad they are running other tests too. You can read more about the tests here on pages 10-12: Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED New, Have Some Questions About My Children
nvsmom replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That could be roseacea. I get red in the face and ears when I eat certain foods....and when I get sick or embarrassed... and when I sit under florescent lights. Weird. LOL -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac? Advice Please
nvsmom replied to Cyberhawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I should have written: The blood tests show an attempt by your body to do damage to your intestinal lining. When tTG and EMA tests are positive, it means the body is attacking itself. Usually it is successful and there is damage- not always though, as you pointed out. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Trying To Diagnose Me With A Somatization Disorder
nvsmom replied to lovechild's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would definitely get free T3 and free T4 checked, along with TSH. When a patient takes natural desiccated thyroid, like Armour, you will be taking a bit more T3 that your body would normally make, but since TSH is made in response to how much T3 and T4 is needed by the body (as I understand it), your TSH will often be suppressed. Take me for example... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening
nvsmom replied to JustCricket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Anyway, thank you for saying that about C versus D. I'm not underweight, either (far from it!), so I don't fit what most people think as Celiac, either. Before going gluten-free I never experienced D unless I had a severe stomach bug. Now it is a fairly common occurrance... I don't fit the celiac mold either... and I've lost a good 20+lbs without trying... -
ARCHIVED Constipation Cause And Help
nvsmom replied to Renaye's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fibre did nothing for me either. I used to take two types of fibre pills and mix in fibre into my water... Didn't help. Going gluten-free only helped my C after I had been gluten-free for close to a year.... Probably not what you want to hear. . Coconut oil and cream, nuts, and coffee help me now. Good luck. -

ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening
nvsmom replied to JustCricket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I usually have (home made) trail mix or Lara bars with me. If I am out for many hours I will sometimes bring a veggie and fruit smoothie. Hard boiled eggs are handy to ave in the fridge, and most nuts and fruit or veggies travel well. -
ARCHIVED After Celiac Diagnoses - Were You Angry?
nvsmom replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nah! I was just given the run around by those doctors who I "love soooo much", so I had to figure out how to best treat myself....and pay out of pocket for a doctor willing to prescribe NDT after months of searching for someone to listen to me Lol I should add, try to get your free T3 measured and not the T3. T3 isn't as helpful. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac? Advice Please
nvsmom replied to Cyberhawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could very well be celiac disease. If you want to get tested continue to eat gluten and request: TTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA Total serum IgA - a control test to make sure you have enough IgA for accurate testing, I think you had that done AGA IgA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests The first three tests test for villi... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Mecando92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get that general feeling of unwellness when I am having an autoimmune flare up. It feels like I am coming down with a flu (for a few weeks) but I never actually get sick. Some AI sufferers, celiacs included, even run mild temperatures. Some celiacs have a rash called dermatitis herpetiformis, perhaps that could fit? Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Mecando92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms do match with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI). Because you have tested negative for celiac disease, it is probably more likely that you are dealing with NCGI but it could be latent (still developing) celiac disease or you could be one of the minority of celiacs with negative blood tests who would have a positive endoscopic... -
ARCHIVED After Celiac Diagnoses - Were You Angry?
nvsmom replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are taking Armour, your TSH will probably be suppressed. Because Armour has more T3 than a human would, your body will note almost no need to produce TSH - there is enough T3 for it. I take 150 mg Thyroid (Canadian version of Armour) and my TSH is 0.01 - completely suppressed - yet my free T3 is at bout 70-75% of my lab's normal reference range so... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Are In
nvsmom replied to SimonSez0721's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Allergies are a different part of the immune system than what is affected by celiac disease, although celiacs do seem to have many allergies. Allergies are through the immunoglobulin E (IgE) system whereas celiac disease is in the IgA (mucosal linings) and IgG (system wide dealing with pathogens). There could be a link, but I personally don't know of it. -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Are In
nvsmom replied to SimonSez0721's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm guessing that your doctor will probably declare you normal because your results are technically in range, but I don't know if I agree. With your symptoms, and a borderline tTG IgA, I think celiac disease could be a possibility for you. An EMA titre of 1:10 is sometimes sonsidered positive as well (depends on the lab). If that is the case with you, then... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results For 15Yo Daughter, Question
nvsmom replied to NanaV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't (personally) believe that one becomes more sensitive to gluten - either you are sensitive or you not. I do believe that symptoms can become more obvious and uncomfortable once you actually become healthy. When you eat a food you are sensitive to, a body will "mal-adapt" so you can handle constantly being ill or in pain. The body makes illness the... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening
nvsmom replied to JustCricket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think Colleen may be right. If you pursue testing, the endoscopic biopsy requires only 2-4 weeks of gluten (about 2 slices of bread per day) whereas the blood tests need 8-12 weeks for accurate testing. If you can stay away from all gluten, even the tiny amounts in some candies and sauces as well as being more careful eating away from home (bring your own... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results For 15Yo Daughter, Question
nvsmom replied to NanaV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, she's serologically negative. She could still have celiac disease, as found via endoscopic biopsy, but it would not be likely... I've seen it happen but it's in the minority. Are you thinking she is non-celiac gluten intolerant (NCGI)? Is she going o go gluten-free for at least three months (six is better) to look for improvements to her health?... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Iga - Just Curious
nvsmom replied to HumanDecency's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My labs had a range of 0-20 for normal. I was told my results were >200, I guess they stopped measuring at 200. At a year gluten-free, my tTG IgA was around a 30 or 40. At 15 months gluten-free I was at 20.9 (I think it was). You got down faster than me but you might have started at a higher point. Nice work, BTW!
