  1. Villi damage can be missed, I'm guessing that is what happened in your case. Your tTG IgA was almost double the upper normal limit... that is pretty significant! When tTG IgA is present, it means your body is attempting to do damage to the mucosal linings of your intestines; perhaps your body was unsuccessful or you are healing quickly? This report discusses...
  2. My thyroid issues affected my hair... a lot. I started buying a bunch of hats the last few years. LOL For me, I experienced more hair loss when I started thyroid meds and when I switched to a different type (from Synthroid which is just T4, to natural desiccated thyroid which has both T4 and T3). It is getting thicker again but it's taking time. Sadly I...
  3. I was going to ask about thyroid testing too. You have many of the same symptoms that I had (fatigue, headaches, Stomach pain, constipation, an all over body ache, dizzy spells when I stand up (my vision sort of "goes"), cold hands and feet, just feeling "not right")and I have both hypothyroidism and celiac disease. My hypothyroidism looked just "subclinical...
  4. (((HUGS))) I wa sdiagnosed a decade sooner than you but I felt the same frustration and anger. I found it maddening that I had lost so many opportunities and so much time to poor health because no one was paying attention... You might want to suggest to your children to get tested as well. It is a genetically linked disease that could affect them too...
  5. I'm pretty sure I have this, but I had never thought anything of my shakes until I read something about it here. My hand will shake if I hold a glass or fork, not everytime but often enough - especially if I'm tired, a bit hypoglycemic, or my blood pressure is low. I get it on occassion around my eye too so the eye lid twitches. If I am very tired my...
  6. Make sure you had the full celiac panel done. Not every celiac is positive in every test... or in any. The tests are: tTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA total serum IgA control test AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older less reliable tests) Symptoms change. I had years where I felt good and others where I was pretty bad. Some years I suffered...
  7. I had a doctor tell, me when I was a child, that I just happened to get stomach aches after every meal and learn to live with it. We listened to the doctor so I had stomach aches for another 30 years... and developed other autoimmune diseases, chronic migraines and arthralgias.... Don't listen to that nurse. I too would advise you get tested before...
  8. I seemed to react slightly differently to different gluten containing products - I know there was a difference between bread and beer - but it wasn't a huge difference. To be honest, when I was diagnosed I was eating gluten most days of the week so I was living in a pretty constant state of illness and inflammation so I tended to not notice the acute symptoms...
  9. I received some beef jerky in my stocking for Xmas that is tastey. McSweeney's Beef Jerky Montreal Steak Spice flavour is gluten-free and good... I have to give a shout out to the company for prompt customer service too. I contacted them about their product and they got back to me pretty quick considering it is the holidays. The only McSweeney's beef...
  10. Ditto Ravenwoodglass. Before I knew that I had celiac disease, there were periods in my life where I was eating gluten-light and I did notice that I felt a bit better BUT that was just in my symptoms. There was an autoimmune reaction and increased inflammation in my body regardless of what symptoms I had at the time. Some celiacs do not have any noticeable...
  11. My appetite went way down after going gluten-free too. Part of it was linked to cutting carbs but even when I do overload on carbs and sugars (like over the last couple of weeks) my appetite does not near what it used to be... I can't remember the last time I needed to use a dinner plate to hold all my food at supper, a salad plate is plenty now a days.
  12. Excellent. I just found this site while looking for cookies for a new year party. I only made one cookie this Xmas: Ginger Snaps 1 cup butter 2 cups white sugar (I use 1 cup and add a bit of stevia) 2 eggs 2 cups rice flour 1 cup tapioca starch 1 cup cornstarch or potato starch or a mix of the two 3 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp.salt 1 cup molasses...
  13. Welcome to be board. I agree with cyclinglady, you might want to consider testing for celiac disease (which is actually an autoimmune is ease and unrelated to allergies, but one can be allergic to wheat). Get tested now while your body is still reacting to Luton - you must be consuming gluten in the two to three months prior to testing in Ryder for the...
  14. Sounds like you are on the right track. It can take months for things to get better. It took me a good year to feel like most things were better. As you get into a longer period of not being glutened, I bet you'll noticeably feel better. Are you using Rice Dream for rice milk? There as been a lot of talk around the forum as to whether it s actually gluten...
  15. That just sounds... wrong to me! LOL
  16. LOL Congratulations! I'm the same as pricklypear, I too thought I had D when things finally turned around for me. BM's more than a couple of times a week were weird to me for quite some time. LOL
  17. Irish - I almost spit my coffee on the computer! Lol No pants?! LOL G-FinDC - my brother and I did that as kids but the snowball that got away from us and ended up in the road. My dad had to drive around it for weeks until it melted a bit - he wasn't impressed. LOL. I'd forgotten about that.
  18. Hugs to you, desperateladysaved. I hope your mom improves. I wonder about my Dad. He died of pancreatic cancer when he was 42... Young people do not often get that one and I know it is linked to celiac disease. I also remember him having a nap everyday after work. As a kid I thought nothing of it but now that I'm about the same age as he was, I know it...
  19. I can't imagine he difficult it would be to be changing your eating habits at age 17 while living inan unsupportive environment. Good for you for watching out for your own health. In the first few months tTG I was gluten-free, I wasted money a few times on food With labes that i did not read, luckily I read the label again enforce I opened it. Misses...
  20. I know that my gut is slow to empty but I assumed it was due to hypothyroidism and celiac disease. When I was pg, I could vomit meals that I had eaten 24 hours earlier, and I can fast for a few days and still have bowel movements... I'm like a camel with food. LOL As the others said, I have seen that as a symptom of celiac disease too. Good...
  21. Huh. I wouldn't be surprised if I have this as it seems to describe my muscle twitches some what. I get twitches in some muscles, for no apparent reason, that last for half a minute to half an hour, and tend to disappear when I use the muscle. My most obvious one (to me) is in my lower eyelid of my right eye. I can see it jump and twitch like to picture...
  22. Merry Christmas... happy boxing day!
  23. Irish, I get hanging on to the old sled. I had an old wooden one from when I was a kid - it could easily seat half a dozen of us. My dad used to take it elk hunting so we ended up with the coolest sled in the neighbourhood because of the blood stains on it. LOL I was heart broken when we snapped it after trying to get half a doen drunken university students...
  24. 2014 is going to be a great year for you now that so much is behind you! Happy birthday!
  25. The endoscopic biopsy requires gluten be eaten in the 2-4 weeks prior to the procedure if you want accurate results - I would keep her on it over the next three weeks too. Use that time to start finding gluten-free products or recipes that she likes. Buy Chex instead of Cheerios... stuff like that. An adult needs the equivalent of 2 slices of bread per day...
