I dont remember if my eyes were red at all. If they were it might have been from lack of sleep. The Graves caused me to be "wired" so I didnt sleep all that much even though I was physically exhausted. Sore eyes and pressure right behind my eyes was my worst symptom.

ARCHIVED celiac disease Is Big Time News!
Rachel--24 replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
Yeah...ummm DUH! I'm wondering how they're gonna prove beyond reasonable doubt that it was specifally gluten in the fries that caused their child to have seizures and ulcers. I'm thinking that would be pretty difficult to prove in court. -
Yeah...the trembling sucked! I remember everytime I'd go in for a follw-up they'd lay a piece of paper across my hands to see if the paper could stay still. I had all your symptoms too...I forgot to add hairloss though. I had alot of hairloss. My eyes hurt alot...I was sure they'd end up bulging but they never did. The Endo. would measure my eyeballs with...

ARCHIVED celiac disease Is Big Time News!
Rachel--24 replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
I am not jumping up and down for joy about this. I've already stated why on the "class action lawsuit" thread. I dont feel this is going to help us at all. I think it will cause more harm than good. I would much rather see Celiac in the news under different circumstances. Its completely ludacris to say the fries caused their child to develop Celiac... -
ARCHIVED A Class Action Suit Against Mcds...
Rachel--24 replied to Cheri A's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
See...now that would really suck. I feel like there will be some kind of backlash from that lawsuit and I'm sure there will be many more jumping on the bandwagon. How long has it been? A week? McDonalds hasnt even had the opportuntity to get everything together and inform the public of exactly whats going on. I'm sure testing the fries will be an important... -
ARCHIVED New To Disease - Would Love Suggestions Or Advice
Rachel--24 replied to momandgirls's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Barnes and Noble & Borders both have lots of books on gluten-free eating but I had trouble finding books on living with gluten intolerance. I had to order those from Amazon. Wheat Free, Worry Free is a great book and also Dangerous Grains. Dangerous Grains doesnt really deal with the diet itself...it gets more into the "what and why" of gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED A Class Action Suit Against Mcds...
Rachel--24 replied to Cheri A's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I agree with you Hez. I just knew it was only a matter of days before someone filed a lawsuit but I also knew this would force McDonalds to test the fries and prove to us that they are gluten-free. Thats basically all I want to know. Are they or arent they. Also, I'm curious about the person who filed the lawsuit saying she suffered from consuming the fries... -
ARCHIVED Radio Program On Gluten Intolerance
Rachel--24 replied to thomas3000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Judy, Don't feel bad for posting on the thread. Your post wasnt misleading at all. You were just commenting on the radio show and she misunderstood you because she hadnt listened to the program. I feel so bad for you having this big setback right now. I totally understand how you're feeling because yes I do have major chemical sensitivities. Its... -
I've heard of people getting diagnosed with Celiac at an old age but I never heard of someone who got diagnosed early on and lived to 90 all the while happily eating gluten. Dont most people who are symptomatic but ignore the diet end up with autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, etc.?

ARCHIVED Radio Program On Gluten Intolerance
Rachel--24 replied to thomas3000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No...basically the doctor talks about how undiagnosed gluten intolerance damages the intestinal lining and lowers our immune defenses so that bacteria, parasites, yeasts...etc...can settle in. This even further lowers our immune defenses but the radio program really explains it well. I'm pretty much dealing with alot of the things discussed in the program... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to momandgirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can make your own breads and there are some gluten-free pizza crusts. My diet is still in the beginning stages....I have lots of healing to do so I just eat the basics...meat, fruit and veggies. Because of that I'm not too familiar with all the breads and pizza and stuff like that but plenty others will probably give you some great ideas for that. -
Hi Carrie, I had Graves and my main symptoms were headache behind my eyes...a pressure almost like my eyes would pop out, headaches, dizziness, hotflashes, sweating and trembling. Also I had an enormous appetite. I was diagnosed with Graves long before I found out I had gluten intolerance. I had the Graves under control for a long time but all of a sudden...

ARCHIVED Questions About Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to momandgirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tinkyada pasta!! Its the best....they have it at Whole Foods. Corn tortillas are safe (I know Mission brand is safe). I dont know about Polenta being gluten-free or not. Envirokidz cereal and snack bars are good too. Whole Foods also has stuff from the Gluten Free Bakehouse (breads, cookies, pies)....they are all great but kinda pricey. -
ARCHIVED Radio Program On Gluten Intolerance
Rachel--24 replied to thomas3000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow Judy, Thanks for the email....I guess you talked me into listening to the program. To tell you the truth Thomas3000 tried to get me to listen to that like about 6 or 7 months ago. I didnt listen to him cuz I thought I knew it all. It was when I first found out I was gluten intolerant so I didnt believe him about possibly having infections and... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?
Rachel--24 replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat the rice cereal everyday. The organic stuff in the green box. I eat almost 1 box everyday. One year ago I probably would have thought it was gross but funny how our taste buds can change cuz now I sooo look forward to having that plain ol rice cereal everyday. On the topic of Bob's Red Mill....I've reacted to it but cant say for sure it was a... -
ARCHIVED Just A Little Frustrated With My Son
Rachel--24 replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Nini on that...depression was one of my biggest problems before I went on the diet. It chaged almost overnight for me. Changes arent always so quick but I was pleasantly surprised. I completely lacked motivation and because I was sick I didnt care much about anything. His attitude would probably change if he went on the diet. -
I learned how to cook! And then I learned how to BAKE!! Cooking is alright...baking is FUN! I assumed I hated these domestic type things and the only appliances I had any use for were the microwave and the fridge. I now use the stove and oven everyday. People who havent seen me in a few years would be amazed. I also discovered that vegetables arent...

Dani, If you know you are intolerant to something you should avoid that food until you are healed. Later on you will be able to slowly add foods back in. But this is not gonna take a couple weeks....you will have to avoid the foods that bother you for a good long while. Let your body heal. Lots of reactions are dose related so suppose you drink a glass...

ARCHIVED Radio Program On Gluten Intolerance
Rachel--24 replied to thomas3000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Judy, I have never listened to that radio program...maybe I should?? Is it long? I guess my doctor was probably trained by that guy...I think I'll ask him. All I know is that my doctor is incredibly knowledgeable about gluten intolerance so I think I'll keep him. -
Most of the intolerances will go away if you allow your gut to heal. Things that slow down or prevent healing are obviously gluten as #1 but also ANY other food intolerances, bacteria infections, caffeine, alcohol, etc. If you are experiencing numerous food intolerances then you have a leaky gut. Yes, the cycle can continue and you can develop more and more...

ARCHIVED Questions About Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to momandgirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I agree with your last statement of going with what your gut says. Shes already had a positive tTG. That is the most specific test for Celiac. A negative biopsy cannot rule out Celiac. Why does the doctor want to redo the test if it already came back positive? I'd put her on the diet and let her heal. Doctors are very reluctant to give a celiac diagnosis... -
Ahh...I see that now. I missed it in your question. Just thought everyone wanted to say where they were from.
-
I think I may try them some day and see how I feel. Thats a loooong ways off for me though. I havent even had the fries in over a year. -CA-USA why are we saying where we're from?

ARCHIVED Interesting Question About Diagnosis
Rachel--24 replied to Jaysonguy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A positive biopsy with flattened villi is a sure fire way to know. Positive IgA and tTG would also be "proof positive". Other than that I'd go with what my own body is telling me. Does she feel bad when she eats gluten? Does she feel better not eating gluten? That would be a pretty good indictator. I'm not sure how long shes been on the diet but Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Question About Antibody For Celiac Disease And Diagnosis
Rachel--24 replied to kari's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not a doctor but to answer your question...yes, you can have Celiac even with a negative biopsy. The fact that you cut alot of gluten out of your diet would affect the outcome of any tests. I dont know which antibody test you had that was high but it means you either have Celiac or a gluten intolerance. Basically the same thing but only Celiac causes...
