  1. I agree with Ian. You don't have to defend your right to feel good to anyone. Ask them if they would deliberately eat/drink something that they KNOW will bring them pain and suffering. The tests arent 100% accurate for one thing. You could also be gluten intolerant rather than Celiac which does not put you at any less risk for future problems/diseases. The...
  2. Emily, Welcome to the board Good for you for listening to your body, educating yourself and having a positive attitude about the whole thing.
  3. I had to cut down my thyroid dose after going gluten-free. I am now taking only 1/3 of what I was taking previously...it seemed to me that I wasnt absorbing it until I started the diet.
  4. OMG...me too. I was telling my Mom the story and she started crying when I talked about the basket of rolls.

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

No he didn't mention any lab specifically. He just said he's sort of moving away from the food tests because they arent always accurate so he prefers an elimination diet. I took the IgG test back in April. It only showed low reactions to alot of spices and banana. Thats it. I react to almost everything though. He says this is a perfect example of why he...
  6. Umm....I would say false. YUP...thats my final answer.
  7. Digestive enzymes can help with digestion but any foods you notice as problematic should be avoided during healing. Its normally suggested that dairy be eliminated during the first months. I dont think digestive enzymes can speed up healing though. That would depend mainly on how badly you are damaged, how fast your body can repair itself, and of course how...
  8. Does Gluten-Free Bakehouse have frozen products? In my Whole foods nothing is frozen...everything is in the bread section. Are these the same products but some stores stock them in the freezer section?
  9. Everything I've tried from the Gluten-Free Bakehouse has been GREAT! Kind of expensive though. I also like the Lara Bars....they are on the snack aisle at my Whole Foods.
  10. LOL...yeah...that would be really stupid. Maybe she meant antifungals....like Nystatin. I've actually seen Nystatin referred to as an antibiotic but I think of it more as an antifungal. Not sure about the proper terminology on that one.
  11. Hi, I just wanted to say that even though I dont have any "accidents" (the worst I get is some mild cramping, bloating and loose stools) after reading your post I felt really bad for you. I have alot of symptoms...just not that one. I sometimes get down and complain and occasionally I've said "I wish I just had "D" or stomach probems like everyone...
  12. I tried them and liked them alot. Nothing like flour tortillas though. My expectations are never high when it comes to food so I'm probably the least picky eater here. I like everything. You may hate them.

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

Judy, I actually know pretty much nothing about adrenals. I've researched alot of things the past 3 years but nothing having to do with adrenals since I was told by my endocrinologist that mine were fine. I dont know what that was based on because I dont recall having any tests done. At that time the main focus was on my thyroid gland which we (falsely...

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

Hi Judy, Thanks for all your kind words! I'm actually not 24 though....I'm 34. I'm sooo glad all this didnt happen when I was 24 cuz I enjoyed 31 years of excellent health. Hopefully after all this gets figured out I'll have plenty more good years ahead. 24 is my favorite # so thats why I used it....I was in such a hurry back then to register (wanted...
  15. Yeah...thats what it means. It's to let you know there are unread posts in that topic. When you click on it it will take you directly to the last post that you have not read.
  16. "Damage to the intestines" means absorption and digestive problems. You would no longer absorb critical nutrients from your diet and and lack of enzymes (such as the enymes to digest lactose) cause digestive troubles. Celiac leads to more serious complications if left untreated.
  17. I lost 25 lbs and had loose stools with alot of undigested food. I was very weak and slept most of the day. I was off work for 2 years. I had some of the symptoms mentioned above like tingling/numbness and my legs and arms were always covered in bruises even though I did nothing to bruise them...I slept most of the time. Since the diet I no longer have the...
  18. You can still have the total IgA test....it wouldnt be affected by the diet.
  19. I agree with the previous posts. If you are satisfied with your diagnosis and dont think you'll be questioning it later skip the biopsy. It wont really tell you anything you dont already know if its positive...if its negative it could very easily be a false negative so you could go through the pain of eating gluten for nothing.
  20. I can never understand why doctors are so reluctant about this. Whats it to them anyway? Its a healthy diet, could possibly be the answer to your childs health problems, there are no side effects to worry about and its free. I bet if it were *their* child they wouldnt be hesitating to try the diet.
  21. That is exactly right. Also IgG reactions are much more common than IgE and much more difficult to identify since they are delayed. IgE responses generally dont go away while IgG responses can diminsh if the offending food is taken out of the diet for some time.
  22. It says on the Delphi list that Garden of Eatin chips CANNOT be guaranteed gluten-free due to shared equipment. I dont know if some people eat these chips w/out any trouble but I dont eat them...I just dont take chances with cross-contamination. Also have you checked your cosmetics, lotions, hair products etc? Especially make sure lipstick or chapstick...
  23. Actually ELISA is not an allergy test. Its a test for delayed reaction food sensitivities which is different from an allergy...so assuming the testing is accurate it would show you your intolerances. If your child has Celiac it doesnt mean that it would show up as a gluten sensitivity/intolerance on an ELISA test. The body's response to gluten is autoimmune...
  24. I used to get shortness of breath and chest pain/tightness...but that was back when I was real sick and on disablility. I dont notice it anymore since I changed my diet back in April. I have no idea what caused it since I went from a normal diet to eating only meat and veggies (all organic) basically overnight. Since I excluded everything at once I have...
  25. Yeah Nikki, you explained it perfect. Sometimes it takes a few hours for a moderator to pin it but you can view it in the active posts...like Nikki said. Also a moderator may sometimes move a topic to a different forum if they feel its better suited there....for example if the post is a question regarding gluten-free status of a certain product but...
