ARCHIVED Gluten Free Makeup
Rachel--24 replied to fisharefriendsnotfood's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Bare Escentuals lip gloss its a little pricey at $14 but I didn't want to bother with trying to figure out which glosses were gluten-free and reading labels and all that. Since its going on my lips I figured I'd play it safe. I think all Bare Escentuals make-up is gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Other "gluten-free" Grains?
Rachel--24 replied to otnemem's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Carrie, It was Bob's Red Mill...suppossed to be gluten-free and processed in a room away from the gluten flours....I suppose it could still be contaminated or I'm just hyper-sensitive...who knows. -
ARCHIVED I'm Getting Recalled!
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Erik, I have to agree with Matilda...I don't think you went gluten-free for very long at all and in those few weeks you were slipping up and eating gluten. I think you'd have to be 100% gluten-free if you expect to see ANY improvement. I've gained over 10 lbs. now but if I mistakenly ate gluten a few times I'd easily lose it all over again as I'm not nearly... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Other "gluten-free" Grains?
Rachel--24 replied to otnemem's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried buckwheat flour and had a major reaction. It was right before I went gluten-free so I hadnt even begun healing yet. I'm scared to try any of the flours now. Maybe when all my symptoms are gone and I'm feeling 100% I'll give it another try. -
I had radioactive iodine treatment for Graves Disease...after the treatment I went Hypo, started Levothroid and have had normal levels since. Thing is I never felt normal and had every Hypo symptom there is. Cold, dry hair, dry skin, fatigue...and the list goes on. I kept complaining and my Endocrinologist just kept telling me that the labs were normal so...

ARCHIVED I'm Getting Recalled!
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Erik, I had yellow palms, cold body temp, and dry skin the whole time I was sick. I figured it was due to low thyroid but my thyroid always tested fine. I didn't believe the tests since these are all signs of low thyroid. On my own I decided to increase my thyroid meds..I was taking 3 times what I'm suppossed to take but the symptoms were still there and... -
ARCHIVED I Know I Am Being Waaaaay Oversensitive Here
Rachel--24 replied to skoki-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't been called a Celiac...yet. I don't know if it would really bother me much though....I guess if it was constant it might get old. So far my friends are referring to me as "gluten girl"...HELLO....I'm not gluten girl...I'm gluten FREE girl...at least get it right. -
ARCHIVED Pain In Muscles And Joints
Rachel--24 replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You're story sounds very similar to mine. I saw an alternative doctor for the candida as well. I really was covinced thats what it was since I felt so great starting the diet. You're lucky you were still able to be tested. I was faithful on the Candida diet and never cheated a single time in 4 months..I don't know how I did it...no carbs or sugar at all... -
ARCHIVED I Have Two Questions...
Rachel--24 replied to fisharefriendsnotfood's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
NO....you can't "grow out" of Celiac. Those people are obviously misinformed. I haven't really had to explain to many people yet since I'm newly diagnosed. Knowing how I am though...I'm sure I will go into full detail about Celiac, gluten and what it does to the body. Thats just me though....I'm sure I won't shut up about it for awhile. I will... -
ARCHIVED Pain In Muscles And Joints
Rachel--24 replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it could damage other tissue...it would make sense but I don't know for sure. I had severe muscle/joint pain for over 2 years...it just kept getting worse. None of the specialists could find anything wrong. I never went to the GI cuz I hardly had any gi symptoms...they paled in comparison to the pain in the rest of my body. My HMO put me in a special... -
ARCHIVED How Frustrating...
Rachel--24 replied to lorka150's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It took me a minute to figure that out! Maybe the other missing 5% is brainfog...which I *thought* was gone but apparently isn't. Thanks for pointing that out Mom. -
ARCHIVED How Frustrating...
Rachel--24 replied to lorka150's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So true. I find I have to remind myself of that as well. Even though 90% of my symptoms are gone after less than a month sometimes I find myself dwelling over that other 5%. I can totally function now and I have my brain back but yet I'm like "Why is my face still puffy?" It makes me feel ungrateful for all the good things...shame on me. -
Thanks, I checked the unsafe food ingredient list and barley grass is on there so now I know. My luck there would be tons of gluten left in that blade of grass!

ARCHIVED Oh Ugg....
Rachel--24 replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you did have Celiac and malabsorption the supplements could've been helping you with some of the symptoms. Why did you stop taking them...is it for testing purposes? I'm not taking any supplements right now except for enzymes....if I get alot of gluten in me my hair really starts to fall out and my skin gets dry....along with alot of other bad stuff. -
ARCHIVED I'm So Proud Of My Hubby...
Rachel--24 replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Awww...that was very thoughtful of him. -
So is barley *grass* considered gluten-free. Its in my vitamins and I assumed it had gluten...it probably does but I just want to double check cuz lots of things have wheat grass or barley grass in them.

ARCHIVED New Here With Test Resultw...
Rachel--24 replied to sedg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you'd like more definitive answers then pursue testing. There are better...more specific tests for Celiac than just the IgA and IgG. You could also just start the diet and see what it does for you. If there is no difference then you can continue looking into other things. There is no harm in trying the diet. -
ARCHIVED New Here With Test Resultw...
Rachel--24 replied to sedg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think that is sufficient testing for Celiac. Also...were you eating gluten regularly before the tests? -
ARCHIVED How Much Is Enough Gluten For Testing?
Rachel--24 replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been noticing that. You mention raisins quite a bit...you're ALWAYS eating raisins! -
Nope...Ezekial bread is not gluten-free. So now you know why you feel sick. I just don't trust what a store employee says is gluten-free or isn't gluten-free...always doublecheck. Yesterday at a health store the guy who helped me was VERY knowledgeable about celiac disease and he gave me some vitamins which he said were the best. Of course the first thing...

ARCHIVED Symptoms
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What is cystic acne like? Are they like bumps that stay for a really long time? Mine don't itch or hurt. Also they don't have pus or fluid or anything. They just look like blisters at first and then they dry up and look like little sores. -

She still mentions removing the contents of a "normal" sandwich and putting it between two slices of gluten free bread and eating it -- if you are not "too sensitive." Wow...I totally missed that part in the book. Well even though I wasn't harmed by anything I read I suppose some people w/out better resources might take these things seriously... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hate these bumps. I'm thinking they're probably not DH since they don't itch at all. I just call them gluten bumps since they come if I get severely glutened. Funny...I only had them in the very beginning of my illness...then none for 2 years...and now that I'm gluten-free they are back! They've been on my cheeks 3 weeks now and I know they'll... -
When my symptoms first started I had SEVERE eye problems. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced in my whole life. I also had Graves Disease going on at the same time. I think it was a combination of both conditions affecting my eyes. I had alot of pressure and my eyes were just really sore. I also got so sensitive to light I had to wear sunglasses even...

ARCHIVED What Should I Do?
Rachel--24 replied to JessicaL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I honestly don't think he'll question not having had an official diagnosis. By the time he's old enough to know the difference you're family will already be accustomed to the gluten-free diet. It shouldn't be hard for him since he's starting out so young...he won't be making the same adjustments you're having to make with your own diagnosis. gluten-free will...
