ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Hives From Gluten?
darlindeb25 replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get hives when gluten, soy, or corn touches my skin. -
ARCHIVED Egg, Soy, Casein, Corn And Gluten Allergies?
darlindeb25 replied to confusedks's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, very possible, not fun, but possible. I can't have the regular glutens, no corn, soy, rice, or nightshades. I think dairy is ok for me, not positive, but pretty sure. -
I would try to find the local celiac support group in your area and ask them who is good to see. I'm sure you will get some good suggestions there.

ARCHIVED Doubts And Questions
darlindeb25 replied to Lissa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mango's explanation was very good, covered everything. I do want to add something though: However, all the gluten I've been eating lately has been a bagel at breakfast, but shouldn't I be getting the runs from that? False! One bagel can be causing you to have diarrhea, gluten is gluten, no matter how big or small. -
Grey, here is the link to another forum: Open Original Shared Link The administrator of this forum is from WI too. His name is Al (aklap) and I am sure he can give you lots of advice for your state and what's available. He is a great guy, full of info. We all have our share of ignorant doctors. They are not so much ignorant, as just not informed....

ARCHIVED Does It Affect All
darlindeb25 replied to little d's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Nope, it's not. They say Irish decent, but I honestly wonder if that is only because they were quicker at identifing it. To my knowldege, celiac disease does not pick and choose who it takes as a victim. My celiac group put on the biggest vendor fair in North America and celiacs from all over the area and even other states came. Believe me, from the people... -
To my knowledge, there is no problem. To be honest, I had never thought of that! I have been in swimming pools without any problems.

ARCHIVED Family Acting Weird
darlindeb25 replied to natalie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for 7 yrs next month. I am the oldest of 3 kids. If I had been diagnosed first, then my mom would not have believed me, yet my sister was diagnosed first, so then, when I went gluten-free, I probably wasn't nuts. My oldest son did think it was stupid to have marked margarine, peanut butter, salad dressing--etc for a while. He still... -
ARCHIVED Oats?
darlindeb25 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a little more info you may want to think about: Here's this: Open Original Shared Link which contains this: -
Thank you Georgie, I will research those and yes, I know I am in a Dr. loop. I am getting just a little scared that they will be putting me in a boat without any paddles. As I research thyroid, I think this has been ailing me for a lot longer than even I realized.

Yesterday, I saw a new doctor that came highly recommended by a very good friend. Dr. Gewirtz is a gyno, yet she also has a nutrition center, stress management, mood disorders, interpersonal relationships--the works. My friend said she would be an excellant place to get started. Dr. Gewirtz did tell me she promises she will make me feel good again. She sits...

ARCHIVED Columbo Frozen Yogurt
darlindeb25 replied to loraleena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would call or email the company. I do know I have had it before and it was ok then, but that was almost 2 yrs ago. I do eat Columbo Light Yogurt. -
ARCHIVED Oats?
darlindeb25 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Saying anything is 100% safe is just not right. Saying they may be safe for some is ok, but not saying they are 100% safe for all. There are many studies out there that say differently. I know I wasn't able to eat oats before I knew I couldn't have gluten. They bothered me my whole life! There is a study out there that says it's not safe for... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Me too, I'm done. Like I said, we need to: AGREE TO DISAGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you speak to the caterer prior to the wedding? Did you ask your nephew about accomodating you? I mention this because in today's age, it has never happened to me. The point was not that I didn't have anything to eat, the point was, I have a great time without food. No, I didn't speak to the caterer, I have no idea who it was. The bride's family did... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Why are you so defensive? Why take it so personal? Who has ever said that your opinion doesn't count? Quit with the self-pity for crying out loud... Self pity???????????? Me? I never feel sorry for myself. I probably worry about others more than anything else in my life. I don't want others to suffer what I have, I don't want them listening... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did an internet search, found this: Millet is one of the oldest foods known to humans and possibly the first cereal grain to be used for domestic purposes. It is mentioned in the Bible, and was used during those times to make bread. Millet has been used in Africa and India as a staple food for thousands of years and it was grown as early as 2700 BC in... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Careful?
darlindeb25 replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I truly believe we can not be too careful. Once you let up on that carefulness, that's when accidents happen. I think you are doing a wonderful job of supporting Alex--we all should be so lucky. -
ARCHIVED I Dont Have Celiac, But Its Ruining My Life!
darlindeb25 replied to littleone's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All good advice here with Carla's hitting it right on the nose. A gluten free diet does not need to be boring. There are many foods you can eat that have nothing to do with gluten. Fresh meats, vegetables, fruits. Just remember to be very watchful of spices, salad dressings, vitamins, soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. Do lots of research online for products... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tarnalberry--I never mentioned millet--not once that I know of. I know nothing about millet! I suppose I understand what you are saying. But if you really believe that, then why even leave the house? Why eat anything that is not a meat, fruit or vegatable? Right? Kinda seems like too much of a "bubble-world" to me... BB That's an unfair statement... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Name My Baby!
darlindeb25 replied to Guhlia's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Annika Marie sounds great. -
I'm sorry, but I have to agree with akJenny. I think our stomachs will always be more sensitive, especially if tummy probs were part of the reason for your diagnosis. My tummy is a lot more sensitive than many people. Any stress in my life, my tummy reacts. Any illnesses effect it. I though, also have a lot of other intolerance's. My sister doesn't...

Emotional stress is every bit as hard on adrenals as physical. Someone in another forum mentioned how hard stress is on a person, especially with adrenal fatigue. I wanted to ask about stress. In November, I was looking forward to a vacation to Michigan to see my family. The vacation was to be the first week in December and believe me, it takes me time...

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Along Debmidge's line of thinking in her last post--I received an email from Jack Samuels. Someone gave me a link to his website yesterday and I have lost it. Before I lost it though, I emailed him and asked about MFS. His reply to me was: Deb: I have never heard of starch being produced from barley or rye. Most is from corn, but if I recall correctly... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A do agree with you Deb--then what do we do. For all the rest of you in this thread, I wanted to post a thought that I find very true for us all. When you disagree with someone, the way out of that disagreement is not to strengthen it by holding firmly to your own side. The most valuable and productive way out is to resolve the situation by finding...
