  1. Billie, no pun intended--go get the book called, "Gluten Free for Dummies"--you will love it. It will be so helpful for you. I love the "Dummie" book, they are so easy to read, so easy to follow, and so informative. I have been gluten free for 7 years and I just read this book this summer and I still read things I didn't know. It's a good read, also,...
  2. It's very difficult to get people to hear your concern, even when that concern comes from your heart. My ex BIL died last week. He was only 52 years old, which really hit me hard, being I turned 52 just yesterday. He was a type 2 diabetic, now dependent on insulin because he refused to take care of himself and also was alcoholic. I'm sure he was drunk...
  3. Thank you everyone--it's nice to be remembered.
  4. Yup, I am a bathroom mapper--have been for a very long time. I will not frequent stores that do not have public bathrooms. If there is no bathroom, then FOR SURE I will need one, it's a golden rule for me! I just never gave myself a name before. Gotta love it!!!!!
  5. Thanks for asking Patti, my hysterectomy was 6 weeks ago this last Wednesday and I am doing ok. I really do notice those missing hormones though. I was already in menopause, so at least sugical menopause wasn't so rough for me--the tears are the worst. I can't remember who mentioned some of us having hysterectomies and tumors--mine was for a prolapsed...
  6. The more I read, the more this makes sense. I have always felt that at my age it would take a very long time, if ever to heal. I was 45 when I went gluten free and had been sick for at least 20 yrs then, years that I can remember anyways. I have read some of you say--you went gluten-free and felt great, only to find in time that you developed another intolerance...
  7. Frec--Do you react when glutened? If you are the type who doesn't know when they have been glutened, then yes, you may be getting cross contaminated and not knowing it, but, if you do react when glutened and you are not reacting, then you must have friends who are watching out for you and a safe restuarant to eat at--good for you! If you are a non-reactive...
  8. I probably am not a good person to ask how to get started, because I feel I probably did it wrong. I was used to not eating 3 meals daily, so I just continued that. I had always had toast and peanut butter for breakfast, so I just changed that to ricecakes and peanut butter, I only use Skippy Naturals now. Fo my lunch/supper, I usually had cottage cheese...
  9. Ok, here we go, as for the endo--did that, he is the one who told me I "am high risk, come back in a year." He said to me, "just because your antibodies are high means nothing, your panel is in the normal range, if your doctor sent you to me and said you have a uterus, that wouldn't mean you are pregnant, now would it?" I will never see that QUACK again...
  10. Ok guys, I do not know what to do from here. I feel like I just keep banging my head into walls! I've never had an official diagnosis of celiac, but it's safe to say I am gluten intolerant. I have been gluten free now for 7 years this pass July. By trial and error I have also found soy, corn, rice, nightshades, cruciferous veggies, red meats, and shellfish...
  11. Happy Birthday all you Virgo's!!!
  12. Well, I couldn't get it to work here, but it did work in the other thread you used it in, so I emailed them from that thread. Gave them a piece of my mind!!!!
  13. As someone said--from the palm side, they are different--strange, but true. From the top, both my pinky fingers fall below the first joint on my ring finger--even if i bend the finger, my pinky is below the bend--yet, if I turn my hand over and look from the palm side--it appears differently. On the backside of your hands, there is only one true definite...
  14. Sorry Sarah--I tried this link 2 times and when it opens, I only get a blank screen--at the very top of the screen, it says email a friend--yet there is no form or nothing. Maybe there is a different link?
  15. We "liars" should flood that paper with emails! What a horrible article to print!
  16. I would like to add here to be very careful of the companies who do say they are gluten free. Always read the label and judge for yourself. I have a Puritan Pride outlet store near me and I found Puritan Pride Woman + 50 vitamins similiar to the Nature Made Woman + 50 that I take now. I asked if they were gluten free and immediately the woman went online...
  17. Saying something like this is what makes a sufferer doubt themselves and that isn't fair. I was gluten free for 3 yrs before my soy intolerance kicked in, then in a short time corn followed, soon nightshades, cruciferous veggies, no red meats and then I lost rice. All within a 2 yr time frame and it's not in my head, I know that. For a time, I thought...
  18. The problem is, that all grains do have their own type of gluten, it's not necessarily called gluten as in wheat, rye, and barley--which, if I recall, isn't really technically called gluten anyways. Some of us just tend to react to all grains and when the monies are there and and full force research gets going on celiac disease, I think they will find there...
  19. I use Gleem toothpaste--it's a very old toothpaste. I have used it my entire life and I am old ! I can't have corn, soy, rice, the glutens, of course, and nightshades, and and and!!!!!!!! I too can tolerate small amounts of corn, like in my meds and such.....the gleem doesn't bother me. Here on Long Island, I have found my gleem in the Dollar Store,...
  20. I only remember dreaming about eating gluten one time and I had been gluten free for 4 years at the time. I dreamed my kids and I had a party at our firepit and I had eaten hot dogs, bun and all. They tasted so good and all of a sudden, it hit me--I CAN'T HAVE BUNS!!!!!!!!! Honest to God, I woke up in tears and I panicked all day long because I could not...
  21. Keep taking them! Why stop a good thing. Doctors are not always right. Some doctors do not thing much of vitamins, but that doesn't mean vitamins are not needed. Celiacs especially need extra vitamins. I just had this discussion with my PCP on Wednesday night. I take probably a lot more B12 than you do and he agrees with many of his associates--they...
  22. The meetings are held in: The West Islip Community Center--90 Higbie Lane--West Islip---it's an old elementary school. Our meetings are always toward the back of the building on the right side. We will look forward to seeing you there!
  23. I think The Gluten Free Bible was a great book. Sure, some of the info is outdated, but the book is still great. You have to look at when the book was written to understand that sometimes it will be outdated, but there will still be very beneficial info within.
  24. Your regular PCP can treat B12 deficiency. They can order you B12 shots, they can give them in the office or you can do them at home. Usually you start out with a shot a day for a month, then they get reduced to a shot a week then either every 2 weeks or once a month, depending on how well the person is doing. There is a good book out there called, "Could...
  25. Deb--I say, run the other way! I have had bad experiences with doctors, not the same as you, but bad. I went to a gynocologist on May 31st and she told me I had many polyps and to return for a sonogram on June 4th. On that day, she told me I had tons and tons of polyps, inside and outside of my uterus, that I needed a D&C. I sat with her and asked...
