ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whether it is or isn't doesn't matter if it isn't being policed. 15. Is there a penalty for non-compliance with FALCPA? Yes. A company and its management may be subject to civil sanctions, criminal penalties, or both under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act A company and it's management MAY be subject to civil sanctions--that should state... -
ARCHIVED Couple Of Questions?
darlindeb25 replied to Peter12345's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well Peter, multi answers here. So what does the skin do when it comes in contact with gluten? Where does the gluten go? It depends on who you are talking too. Some say it can not possibly go through the skin, yet others say, if you have an open wound, it can pass through. I really do not know. I do know that if gluten, soy, or corn gets on my skin... -
ARCHIVED I Wannna Go Home
darlindeb25 replied to little d's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you believe in the cycles of the moon. May 07 is a bluemoon month and it has been trying everywhere. I am betting things will start to calm down in a week or so. I can always tell when it is a few days before the full moon, just by the behavior of people. The full moon is on Thursday the 31st--things should calm after that. -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
darlindeb25 replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you RKB MD--I have been trying to say the same thing and it seems no one wants to believe me. The following are currently FDA acceptable food starch additives: casein, wheat, barley, corn, soybean, millet. Notice 50% of these are not on a gluten free diet. And, most importantly, some of the gluten containing items allow the company to state "Wheat... -
ARCHIVED Couple Of Questions?
darlindeb25 replied to Peter12345's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you have no problems with wheat touching your skin, it will not be a problem as long as you wash your hands immediately. The biggest problem comes when you forget where your hands have been and then eat something. Anything your hands touch can conceivably make it to your mouth. Now me, I can't have gluten on my skin or I break out in hives. Hope... -
I was just back to Michigan for a wedding and visit with my family. My mother guestioned my need to avoid nightshades and more or less feels I am nuts. So, upon returning home, I started researching nightshades and such. It seems that grains and nightshades all contain lectin, which to me seems to be a common ground for some of us. Gluten in itself, is...

ARCHIVED When Someone Has Very Possible Symptoms Of Celiac/gluten Intolerance...
darlindeb25 replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yup, I always share with others too. If they do not want to think about what I tell them, then that is up to them. It has been proven now that gluten intolerance is not rare and the only way people will find out is by us explaining it to them. Doctors certainly are not "in the program" as of yet. Just tell them you are working along beside their guardian... -
Thank you ksmith--I have been reading up on adrenal fatigue and it does make sense to me--now if I can only get a doctor to listen to me!!!!!

My MD told me my thyroid numbers are fine. After 2 different tests, I asked to have my antiboidies tested--it came back at 69.9 with the range being <35. The lab doing all my tests is Quest. I was referred to an endo, who I felt just dismissed me. He did do a blood work too and if the time of day does mean anything, the blood was drawn at 2:30pm. ...

I was a SAHM for several years, of course, I worked at home then. SAHM is one of the hardest jobs to do and the most rewarding. At the time, I also sewed for others part time and I babysat full time. I was very sick back then and still did so many volunteer things, still amazes me. I was PTO president, girl and cub scout leader, even the Cubmaster, 4...

ARCHIVED I Knew Better Not To Eat That
darlindeb25 replied to little d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry this happened to you, yet only you can stop it from happening again. If you truly want to be healthy, you must not eat gluten. Only you can stop. I was so sick before going gluten free, I never put gluten in my mouth again after being gluten free, not knowingly anyways. Yes, I miss so many favorites, but I do not miss them enough to be sick... -
ARCHIVED Traveling To East Lansing, Michigan
darlindeb25 replied to acermom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Kroger stores in Michigan have a nice section of gluten free items, as I would imagine probably Meijers do too. There is a great store in East Lansing/Okemos called Foods for Life and they carry a lot of gluten free items. It's on Grand River, pass the college and out near Best Buy. The store is on the south /right side of the street when heading east... -
ARCHIVED I'm Not Feeling Well At All!
darlindeb25 replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry Walter, I feel for you. I do know how you feel. I can't remember how long you have been gluten free. If you did get glutened, then this will happen. I wish I had an instant cure for you. Feel better. -
I was gluten free for 5 yrs and at Christmas time that year, I made puppy chow for my daughter and the people at work. The cereal I used did have malt in it and I didn't eat any, yet I must have not washed my hands or something because I was glutened that time. It happens to all of us!

ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues
darlindeb25 replied to cause&effect's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My MD ignored my thyroid panel, said it's all normal. Then when I begged for the antibodies test, they called me and referred me to an endo. Obviously my MD thought 69.9 was something that should be checked into. The endo totally ignored the antibodies test. He said that just because my antibodies are a little high doesn't mean my thyroid is effected... -
ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues
darlindeb25 replied to cause&effect's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Each time I read and reread these threads, I see something new! The more I learn, the more guestions I have. I have been researching adrenal fatigue and now, because of this thread, I am researching Wilson's Syndrome. Doctors are not Gods and I realize we have to pick through them to find the few good ones. Are any of you on Long Island, any suggestions... -
Your doctor tells you that you're perfectly healthy according to your physical exam and test results. This may be the most aggravating answer I have gotten too. If I am so normal and in the normal range, then why was I so sick and why do I feel so bad now. I just had an endo tell me that my numbers all fall into the normal range and, "You are extremely...

They are beautiful Jerry, you do good work. I have a beautiful pic of an angel trumpet, I would love to put it in here, but do not know how. I have a great pic of my granddaughter Harley and me too. Got some great pics while on vacation last week. I love taking pics too. -
ARCHIVED Nightshade Intolerance
darlindeb25 replied to Felidae's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Another connection with nightshades and celiac: nightshades have lectins, which is the cause for problems for many people. Wheat, rye, barley, and oats also have lectins. It doesn't surprise me that nightshades bother me as I research. I am reading a book called: Allergy Free by Konrad Kail N.D. It says: Most lectins come from the indigestible... -
Thank you both. I know not to give up, yet believe me, it does occur to you at some point. Yesterday I told a co-worker that I have had it with everything, told her I was going back to eating anything I want and would just let diarrhea run my life again! Of course, I didn't mean it, it's all so frustrating. I can't be told anymore that it's all in my...

ARCHIVED More Questions!
darlindeb25 replied to Boffin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't understand why you can't go gluten free now, you already had the biopsy. Gluten is gluten, alot or a little, doesn't matter--none is what you have to aim for. When taking meds, you must make sure they are gluten free too. As for taking imodium or something else for diarrhea--I always found it did make me feel better for the moment, but the next... -
ARCHIVED How About Them Gas Prices Eh?
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live on the south shore of Long Island NY and I just drove to my nephew's wedding in Michigan last week. I paid more for gas one way then I used to round trip. The highest I paid was here on the island and in Michigan, around $3.20. In Penn somewhere, I got gas for $2.99. I drive a Mercury Mystigue and it is pretty good on gas. The gas companies... -
I had my first visit with an endo today and I feel he totally dismissed me. I know it's crazy to want to be told my thyroid is the problem, but I am grasping at straws now. Everything points to my thyroid and he just dismissed me with those words, "Your numbers are in the normal range!" He told me not to worry about my thyroid antibodies for now, that just...
