ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food Fair This Saturday In Michigan
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Tinkerbellswt--I am pretty sure there will not be two vendor fairs here in New York on the same day. The Suffolk County Vendor Fair is on the 29th, but it isn't on Staten Island. It's in Farmingdale at the college on Rt. 110. If there is another vendor fair on Staten Island, I'm sorry. If you need more info, pm me. -
I'm not sure where you are at on Long Island, I am in the E. Islip area--my doctor is head of medicine at Southside Hospital and he says the best gastro doc is Mary Meena Thomas. She is in Bayshore--375 E Main St, Suite 21--phone # is 968-8288. Your insurance may require a referral though. We have a very good support group that meets in W. Islip, we...

Adelle--nothing in life is simple! I'm sorry, yet many people in those positions simply do not want to work, they want the rest of us take care of them. I have 2 sons that live off the system and I am not proud of that fact. They are both perfectly capable of working and making their own living, yet they feel they deserve to be given everything. I do...

ARCHIVED 10 Things I Hate About Celiac
darlindeb25 replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can I add to the list: Fearing the kisses of your beautiful grandchildren! A brother who thinks barley soup is all I need to make me well! I agree, the need to know where every bathroom is along the way to anywhere! Not being able to trust others with my food! The knowledge that "normal" is something I will never achieve! And the worst... -
ARCHIVED Can Dh Look Like Pimples?
darlindeb25 replied to nama shivaya's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Before going gluten-free, my sister and I both had terrible bouts of itching on our legs. Was very weird, it happened about the same time everyday and you got so you dreaded that time of day. When my daughter was 2 1/2 she was in a full body cast for hip problems and my legs broke out in a terrible, itchy rash. First the doc said it was poison ivy, then... -
ARCHIVED A New Thought About Iodine...
darlindeb25 replied to MGoers37's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
One of my naturopathic doctors told me to get off the iodized salt due to my potato allergy, as it is used in the iodization process; I have also read on this forum that corn can also be used I never heard this before. I used iodized salt, only because we were raised to think we must use iodized. I can't have corn or potatoes either. Thank you for the... -
Yes, wheat is hidden in so many things. BBQ sauce is one of the many things it is hidden in, soy sauce is a bad one too. There are BBQ sauces without wheat though and I am sure someone will come along and tell you which too try. I can't have tomatoes or I would suggest some for you. Welcome to the board.

ARCHIVED Falling Off The Wagon (advise Please!)
darlindeb25 replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My advice is: You are your own boss. No one makes you cheat, only you can stop it from happening. I have been gluten-free now for almost 7 years and I never purposely cheated. Yes, there are foods I still miss and even get drepressed when I see them or hear someone else speak of them. I still miss toast and I can't eat gluten-free toast, I can't tolerate... -

ARCHIVED In So Much Pain Is Tylenol An Anti Inflammatory And Safe?

ARCHIVED In So Much Pain Is Tylenol An Anti Inflammatory And Safe?
darlindeb25 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes Raven, Tylenol is gluten free, but will do little to help your inflamation issues. Take Aleve, it works great and yes, it is gluten free. I have been having so much trouble with my neck and shoulders. I had a nerve conduction done and they found no pinched nerves. Tylenol and Excedrin did nothing. Another gluten intolerant friend told me to try Aleve... -
ARCHIVED Organic Chickens That Are Fed With Wheat - gluten-free?
darlindeb25 replied to alison h's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Organic doesn't mean they aren't fed grain. It means they are not given antibiotics, hormones, or pesticides in their feed. It also means they are free-range birds, meaning they are not trapped in cages all the time. They wander around a barnyard and are allowed to peck at whatever they want. They still must have some kind of feed to survive. There have... -
ARCHIVED Ever Been Glutened By Someone Who Was Trying To Prove You Would Not Be?
darlindeb25 replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is truly difficult for some people to understand that something they eat with no problem could actually make another sick. They just can not phantom the thought. Yet Angel, now he knows for sure, maybe he just needed that extra bit of info. Hopefully from now on he will remember that day and be very aware of your needs. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Leading To Social Anxiety?
darlindeb25 replied to johnm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
John, don't throw in the towel yet. I understand what you are going through, I live it too, not to the degree you are, but I do live it. I never get true diarrhea anymore unless glutened or another intolerance, but I do have the nervousness and probably always will. After first going gluten free I did great--it was a few years later when my other intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Pox- Can You Get It Again?
darlindeb25 replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It is possible to get chicken pox twice--my family doctor told me that when one of the kids didn't have them very heavy. As for celiac's being more prone to picking up diseases, not true. I absolutely do not believe that we pick up viruses any quicker than anyone else, if as often. Knock on wood, I rarely ever pick up viruses from others. I have lived... -
ARCHIVED Equate Sinus Pills
darlindeb25 replied to NoGluGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed the company on the bottle when I purchased an Equate brand. If it is produced by a lab called Perrigo Labs, their products are gluten free. I am taking Equate Loratadine and it is gluten-free. Tylenol Sinus is gluten-free, that I know. -
ARCHIVED It's Official... The Gluten Is What Was Killing The Pets
darlindeb25 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About the wheat gluten--you wouldn't have any idea what they were talking about if you were not celiac or gluten intolerant! More people eat wheat, than don't. I think this should be a wake up call for all of us. It is just as possible for this to have happened to our food. Everyday, it seems we are hearing about one more food that is tainted. I personally... -
ARCHIVED Lays Products...how Much Of A Risk?
darlindeb25 replied to ReneCox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Grain Fed Beef?
darlindeb25 replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My mom always said that red meat sits in your tummy and rots. I believe her now. I do not feel that gluten fed animals have anything to do with our intolerance to gluten. I do however believe that some of us just can not digest beef, I know I can't. I also believe that range raised animals still get some feed. In this country, there are very few areas... -
ARCHIVED Ok, My Brother Came Back With This Poem
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Now that's brotherly love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My brother didn't write any poems, he just offered me barley soup because it will "fix anything that ails ya!" -
Morning Lynn, My kids are grown. Jeremy will be 33 in May, Mike 30, Nick 28, Joe 25, and Holly is 24. I have grandkids closer to your child's age. Three 9 yr olds, 7, 5, 3, and 5 months. My kids and grandkids all live in Michigan. I know that most of my kids, if not all would be much better off on a gluten free diet. My granddaughter Brooklyn has...

I'm sorry this has happened twice. I have always trusted Bob's Red Mill. I do not do well with any of the gluten free flours. I find they are too heavy for my tummy. I stay away from flour, as much as I can. I used to make a very good cream of chicken soup and found it always upset my tummy and I knew it was gluten-free. gluten-free bread is too heavy...

I too, use Hellman's Canola Mayo, it taste the same as regular mayo and, the best part, it cost the same. They do not jack the price up just because it's different!!!!!

ARCHIVED Share Your Best Post-glutening Remedies
darlindeb25 replied to melie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sure my answer will be of no help, yet for me, I just let nature do it's job. I find if I take anything, it usually prolongs the agony. Imodium works at the time, yet I will suffer even more so in a few days. I tend to live with my heating pad and just deal with the accident. I do think it would be wonderful if they could come up with something... -
