  1. Just an added note here, I too feel this way, Wednesday night and Thursday morning in tremendous pain that is from, I think, my gallbladder when I eat soy products. Severe cramping and for me, it can last for days, or even come and go for weeks, so I never eat soy products, although I can handle soy lecithin, which many soy intolerant people can. Some...
  2. Here is an interesting site for those of you who would like to know which alcohol is considered gluten free. It gives descriptions of the different drinks and what they contain: Open Original Shared Link Personally, I am like many other celiac's who just cannot tolerate any alcohol. A tiny drink of wine makes me very ill, peachtree schnapps is my...
  3. I found this in another forum and will be taking it to our local news station. They did a segment on celiac disease a month or so ago and I am hoping they will pick up on this and follow through: Public Service Announcement: Spreading Celiac Awareness Nationwide Celiac Disease...If you
  4. Geoff--B6 isn't a no-no. Some doctors do not agree with taking it, some encourage it. You do have to be more careful with B6. I did take it for a while, I didn't see the improvement that my friend did.
  5. Stay with it Mich, you may feel this way for a bit, but it should get better. Your body has to rid itself of all the gluten poisons in it now. Use a heating pad and look forward to feeling better, ok!

ARCHIVED Doctor #1 Vs Doctor #2

Well Murray--welcome to our world. We all have a doctor #1 and #2 and many of us have 3, 4, 5 ,6 and on and on. Your doctor #1 just is not as well informed as your doctor #2. I have probably seen 6 doctors now and the one I have now tells me there is no doubt in his mind, he says he is 99% sure I have celiac disease and would never put me through a challenge...
  7. I am such a goob. I have a rarer blood type, so I feel a responsibilty in giving it. Well for the last couple of years I've been denied for low iron. It just dawned on me it's because of the Celiac. When I get better I'll be able to do it again. I can't believe that I just figured that out. I'll blame it on the brain fog. Jo, you are not a goob, whatever...
  8. Health care in America quite often stinks too. If you do not have insurance, you usually can not afford to have even blood work done. When I found out about celiac disease, I was recently divorced, had no insurance, was making just enough money to barely get by on with 2 kids still at home and could not afford testing. I did try to get insurance coverage...
  9. I attended my support group meeting last night and we are putting on the largest vendor fair in North America on April 29th. At this time, we have 50 gluten-free vendors attending, we possibly have room for 10 more vendors. Dr. Peter Green will speak at 2 different times and there will also be a seminar on gluten-free Cooking. The fair will be held at...
  10. The first one I was put on was Xanax and they had me taking it 4 times a day, I could hardly get out of bed, let alone take care of my 5 kids. Then they told me to use it as needed, which didn't take care of the problem. So, then I was given 10mg of Paxil. I do not remember side effects to it, but it was well over 10 years ago when I first took it. I...
  11. Ally, you are very welcome. I do understand, totally. I get very tired of the co-worker remarks too. The one that bugs me the most is, "How sick could just one cookie make you?" Sometimes, I think the hardest part about this disease is the outside world. It seems that many just do not care to understand. They make no effort whatsoever. Celiac disease...
  12. How long have you been gluten free? Have you checked your shampoos, lotions, soaps, meds???? Could cross-contamination be an issue. Sometimes, when a person finds out they have a disease, they become depressed. Maybe you need to take something for depression, maybe for just a short time--not everyone needs them all the time. Were you depressed before...
  13. You may be intolerant of something else in the vitamin--such as soy or maybe corn. It may not be a gluten problem this time. I reacted badly to a calcium supplement and I coul dnot figure out why, not until I realized it was the soy in it. Check that out.
  14. DebM--Amazing, I never even thought about this before: I was folding letters and realized my hands were crumby from cookies and I said to myself "I Hope the receipent of this letter doesn't have celiac..."At work, I have thought about it, but never from my mail. Makes perfect sense that it could happen, especially when I watch those at work being so...
  15. I want to add here, any of you wanting to increase your B12 intake will never get enough in a multiple vitamin--the most you will ever find in a multiple vitamin will be 100% of the recommended daily amount--I now take 40,000% of the recommended daily amount and test within the normal range for B12. I have a friend who was complaining of numbness in his...
  16. Givingthanx--taking B12 can not hurt you. Our body eliminates that which we do not use. I take 2400mcg (which is 2 mg) of B12 daily and my B12 just stays within the normal range. It is very difficult when you do not have medical insurance to cover testing. I didn't have insurance until just a little over one year ago and testing is so expensive. Try...
  17. Ryan, my sister had iron IV's for 3 hours, every Wednesday for a couple of months in the beginning, then they told her she would have to have them once a month for life, yet once she went gluten free, things did improve and she has not had the iron transfusions for 6 years. Maybe all Alex needs is to get that iron built up and along with her gluten free...
  18. NoGluGirl is correct Jerri, unforunately, we can not make another take care of themselves. Until your brother wants to go totally gluten free, you can't make him. Some people get upset with me when I say this, but living gluten free is a lifestyle choice we all must make and until he makes that choice, he will be sick and of course, shortening his lifespan...
  19. I'm sorry Deb, I can't help you there. My sister is the head dietician of the cafeteria in the hospital she works in, she has one other over her, yet she has worked there now for over 20 years, so her income would not be accurate for you to look into. She took her college courses for dietician while working at the hospital and the hospital paid for much...
  20. Morning DebM--we do, the 3 of us have a great name huh!!!! Deb is so correct too, Deb. Thing is, they would blame you for them loosing their donut day too. I too like the laxative laced donut idea, even though I would never do it. YEt, it would certainly make them understand how I feel when I get glutened. We have many patients who bring in...
  21. Very good advice from both. The one thing we must remember is--this too will pass. I do not think I ever lashed out at others, I have been accused of holding too much inside and making myself crazy!
  22. Research the nutritionist you will go too. Get advice from other celiac's. There is a nutritionist in this area who is also celiac. My sister is a nutritionist and she is celiac too. They are out there, you just need to find them. JoR, one of the things we all must remember is, we are not on a diet. We are simply eliminating the foods that are making...
  23. I absolutely can not eat gluten and not know it. I get very ill, very quickly, when glutened. I can't speak for others, yet I know I have never been glutened by Quaker Caramel Corn Ricecakes--and this is the only flavor I eat. Debbie, I would think that if you know when you are glutened at other times, then you would know if you have a problem with rice...
  24. Peach Schnapps, which I love, is gluten free. I am not sure about the others. Peachtree is my favorite drink of all time, enjoy one for me--ok. I can't have any liquor anymore, for some reason it all makes me very ill.
  25. Hi Deb nice name!!!!!! There are those here who feel Quaker Rice Cakes can not be trusted. There are some who think they have been glutened by them. I have eaten them now for 5 1/2 years and never once had a problem. I am intolerant of so many things, yet these have never made me sick. I only eat the caramel corn rice cakes, never any of the others...
