  1. Paulina and Andrea, Thanks for reassuring me, I guess I know in my head that I have Celiac, but have "wishful thinking" sometimes! I've been a vegetarian for 20 years of my life (I'm 24), so going back to meat is out of the question. I've heard bad things about soy here and there, but I figured it was just hype. Soy is definitely a big...
  2. Andrea, Thanks so much for your reply. I don't have any other food allergies/intolerances that I know of. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in Oct. of 2003. I don't think I ate much soy before the biopsy; if anything, I eat more soy products now (I'm a vegetarian). Truthfully, I'm flat out SCARED to do a gluten-challenge. But I go back and...
  3. Thanks, Mamaw. I'll probably end up doing the same as you - placing a large order through the website. I really want to try the new pumpkin and banana breads, too! - Lauren
  4. Jillian, I've only been there once, but when I told them what I needed, they got a separate, clean bowl to mix mine. - Lauren
  5. Does everyone order it through the website? I love the bread too, but can't find it in any stores. I was wondering if any places sold it cheaper than the glutenevolution site? If not, it's still worth it! - Lauren
  6. I think I may be unique... I checked "other" b/c I never had the bloodwork, just the biopsy, which was positive for celiac disease. The GI saw that I had intestinal damage during an endoscopy to check my pancreas (follow-up after I had pancreatitis and still wasn't feeling quite "right"). He took a biopsy right then and diagnosed me after analyzing it...
  7. I also remember hearing that Godiva liquer has gluten in it. My friend makes an egg nog version with the white chocolate variety, and I've always avoided it even though it sounds soooo good! - Lauren
  8. I don't mean to scare you, but hope you can learn from my mistakes during my trip to Mexico. I was VERY sick the entire time. I luckily brought food with me, so even though meals were included in my resort stay, I could not eat it (even plain salad!) without getting sick. I don't know whether it was gluten or an issue with the water (even though they claimed...
  9. Well don't be mad at me if you don't like them, but I think they're sooooo good!! The bread is nice and spongey like regular (gluten) bread! I really recommend the cake too. Yum yum! I too was skeptical, but it's GOOD! - Lauren
  10. Thanks, Moongirl!! - Lauren
  11. I saw a Whatchamacallit the other day and remembered that they used to be my favorite candy bar. For those who are unfamiliar, it's chocolate covered, has PB and caramel, and crispy rice. It's made by Hershey and the ingredients LOOKED ok to me... does anyone eat them? Does anyone know if they are gluten-free? The only thing I worried about was the crispy...
  12. It doesn't list their candy at all - I thought most of their chocolate was gluten-free? - Lauren
  13. I flippin love those things! Definitely agree, doesn't get any better than chocolate and PB. By the way, both of my parents are from Ohio, and that's who I learned about "Buckeyes" (the candy!) from... so I wonder if it is an Ohio thing? Or is it b/c when you roll them into balls, they do kinda look like buckeyes... Oh well, who cares how they got their...
  14. I've said it before on here, and I'll say it again. When people feel the need to point out how "skinny" I am, I say: It's not socially acceptable to point out how fat someone is, why is it OK to point out that I'm underweight? It hurts my feelings in just the same way. Usually gets the point across. - Lauren
  15. Monica, G-burg is only about a half hour away from Frederick. I'm pretty sure they would be your closest support group. I know that when I attend meetings, we have people from Frederick and other parts of MD there. The meetings are at the G-burg Hospital, AND the Rose Garden (just around the corner) does have Kinnikinnick products. I'm in grad school...
  16. I totally hear ya on wanting to be "near" the city, but not "in" it. Frederick is growing really quickly though, so it sometimes has that city feel (I know, I've sat in many a traffic jam in Frederick on Rte 15 on my way home from work). I don't remember the Common Market having Kinnikinnick, but I haven't been there since they moved to the new store....
  17. My "hometown" is Gettysburg, went to school in Emmitsburg (20 min from Fred.) and I worked in Howard County (drove through Frederick). I believe the name of the health food store in Frederick is the Common Market. As far as restaurants, they have Chipotle, Panera, Outback and probably a few other chains that offer a gluten-free meal, but I don't know much...
  18. I've had that type of pasta (all 3 colors/varieties haha). I liked it but some people may not - it has an almost spongey "bounce back" texture. But I really liked it. I also really liked that it had so much protein and fiber. If you try it let me know what you think. Like I said, it's different, but I enjoyed it. - Lauren
  19. Yes, gatorade is an electrolyte (has salt), so that goes along with my suggestion. Good luck - hope things improve b/c blacking out is definitely NOT normal! - Lauren
  20. Carla, That's called being orthostatic- people get that "blacking out" or "seeing spots" sensation when they're standing bp is lower than when they are lying down. A nutrionist told me to drink gatorade when that happens, and lots of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and that helps. - Lauren
  21. OK forgive me for not reading the entire thread (I will though!) but YES I get terrible nightsweats! I'm only 24, but I think mine is hormonal (my hormones are all messed up). I've noticed also that if I eat something big before going to bed I get nightsweats. My nutrionist thought it might be my metabolism going into overdrive. Who knows. How do I cope...
  22. Tofu Pups are gluten-free. Love love love them!! - Lauren
  23. I just saw it in the grocery store and it said "Gluten-Free" right on the package. Don't know if that helps or not, I didn't buy it b/c I'm not big on onion soup. - Lauren
  24. Yay I want to see a pic too! I love buttercream frosting, sounds pretty AND delicious! - Lauren
  25. France, I like the Amazon frosted flakes too, but the Whole Foods ones were even better! They had a lighter texture - I thought they tasted exactly like Frosted Flakes. Plus, they were cheap! Oh well, my newest inexpensive (relatively speaking, of course) fave is Wegmans corn flakes with strawberries. I guess it's supposed to be their version of...
