  1. Sounds like it would send me into a sugar-shock coma. Seriously. I have hyperglycemia and this would wreak havoc on my blood sugar. Drinking this concoction for a day, much less consecutive days, does not sound healthy to me. However, I'm just one person and I've heard some people swear by such "fasts." - Lauren
  2. Hi lauriel, I was "lucky" enough to be diagnosed with Celiac at the beginning of my senior year of college. I say lucky because at this time I had an apartment - meaning I did not live in the dorms and did not have to rely on the school's cafeteria meal plans (which were mandatory for students who did live in the dorms). I had a full kitchen (stove, oven...
  3. Whey is gluten-free. It should be fine. - Lauren
  4. I don't know, Barlean's greens is gluten-free and it has barley leaf (as well as oat and rye leaf)... I don't know how leaves are different from grasses, if they are at all - Lauren
  5. This response doesn't even make me mad. It makes me sad, because in this day and age, with all of the sue-happy people out there, I almost think that such a response is a smart move on their part. The Celiac in me says, "No, dummies, stop with the CYA stuff, and tell me what I can eat at your restaurant!" but the practical side of me says, "If I were in their...
  6. I definitely get the winter blues, and on the recommendation of a therapist, purchased a Verilux Happy Light. It's hard to find the time for it when you're rushed in the morning (as I am), but my mother remarked that she noticed that it seems to have made a great improvement in my attitude. I do know that I've been more social for this time of year, whereas...
  7. Hey Samantha! I just moved from Deptford, NJ to the Maryland area, and my parents live in south-central PA. Are you more toward Philly? - Lauren
  8. I was leaving the grocery store the other day when a girl scout group asked me if I wanted to buy cookies. I told them I wished I could, but I could not eat wheat. One of the Moms said, "oh my sister-in-law is like that, she can't have gluten." I was so worried that they were going to think I was making it up, I was glad that someone new I wasn't! - Lauren
  9. Everyone is welcome! I will be walking also! - Lauren
  10. Oh, boo. This is probably the same thing, but I'll try again: Open Original Shared Link If that doesn't work, you can search for my team on the website. Again, Laura (and anyone else), you are more than welcome to join! Right now it's just my mom and myself. We want to get t-shirts made! We did it last year as well (Julie from this board joined my team...
  11. I'm doing it! My team is the "Wheat Watchers" if anyone wants to join or sponsor! (Hope this links works...) Open Original Shared Link Or just respond to this! - Lauren
  12. I'm pretty much in LOVE with the Great Sage! They have so much gluten-free stuff to eat, make all the accomodations. It is my new favorite place to eat! - Lauren
  13. Wow, darkr, I really admire you for taking the "leap" to going raw. It's such a commitment, and although I really want to give it a try, I just don't see having time to do it 100%. I want to try eating more raw food though (trying to abandone my "all or nothing" style thinking and see that eating more raw may help me even if I'm not 100%). A new raw cafe...
  14. Yes. I am not a total health nut (I couldn't live without chocolate!), but my Celiac diagnosis definitely was the catalyst for my unnatural and unhealthy obsession with food. There is no doubt in my mind that it caused me to develop and eating disorder that was not based on my weight, or calories, or anything of the "typilcal" sort, but on a fear of food...
  15. Oh, maybe they've changed the formula. That would be awesome because I'm a peanut butter fiend - Lauren
  16. Just a warning... the Puffins peanut butter variety is not gluten-free. The only type of Puffins cereal that is gluten-free is the Honey Rice. It's yummy! - Lauren
  17. Pardon my ignorance, but what is fermentation? Would it be somewhat like "pickling" vegetables? Or is it more like sprouting? - Lauren
  18. I think you are so right on. I am not a rigid person so much in my views, but very much an "all or nothing" personality. And a control freak. I have used my "controlling" ways on my eating behaviors in the past, and I certainly don't want to fall back into that pattern. I have always said for myself, that I don't know the meaning of the word "moderation"...
  19. I didn't mean to insinuate that the raw foodies preach their diet as a "back to basics" approach - as in the way humans used to eat. I meant that for me, eating strictly unprocessed foods would be going back to basics. The raw food diet is not a pre-evolution diet I'm still kicking around the idea, but also still majorly overwhelmed by the idea of...
  20. I got mine at Whole Foods and a local health store. My local Giant Eagle carries it, too. Amazon has it: Open Original Shared Link .com/s/104-7381353-051194...tbin=LesserEvil - Lauren
  21. They are DELICIOUS! I've been enjoying them for awhile now. The Cinnamon flavor is to die for! - Lauren
  22. Oh let me be clear, I would not be eating raw meat or eggs! But yes, I actually did see a bit of that episode of Wife Swap... yuck. Where do they find these people?? Anyway, I checked out the Alissa Cohen website and it was very informative and inspiring. I would absolutely love to try an experiment and go raw for a couple of weeks, just to see how I feel...
  23. I'm sure that most people have heard of the raw food diet. If you haven't, google it and I'm sure they will be able to provide you a much better description than I. Basically, no food is heated above a certain degree. A raw food restaurant recently opened near me, and after talking with the owner, I was excited to hear that everything on the menu was...
  24. This is why I'm single But seriously, I've had similar problems with roommates. I definitely don't think it's malicious, just temporary lack of sanity and consideration. - Lauren
  25. Ahh, yes Big Easy was awesome! The owners' children are Celiac, so they are very knowledgeable and accomodating. When I was there (2 summers ago), they said that if you gave them advanced notice, they could do gluten-free breading on several menu items. I forget the name right now... but there is also an italian restaurant that was very, very good with...
