  1. Ok -- Article -- "Disease of a thousand disguises" writer -- Jo Ciaviaglia of Bucks County Courier Times Tagline -- "Many people have celiac disease and don't realize it. The cure is simple, though not easy, experts and sufferers say." The article goes on to discuss a teenager with celiac disease. "For [her] gluten is poison...her body reacts...
  2. Ugh - Just looked online and don't see the article there. The article was titled "The disease of a thousand disguises".....I'll try to get ahold of a copy today and post some of the key points including the dr.'s name.
  3. The Bucks County Courier had an article in this morning's paper...About 3 or 4 weeks ago they ran another story. Today's was on the bottom of the front page. I think you can find previous articles on www.phillyburbs.com if you're interested in reading it. I skimmed the article - it mentioned a Dr. at CHOP who treats and also has celiacs.
  4. If you're looking for a prepared product, I believe Pacific Organic has gravies that are gluten-free.

    ARCHIVED Vision

In the past, and still on occassion, I have had opthamolic (sp?) migraines. I never got the headaches associated with "normal" migraines (until much later). Instead my vision was impaired. This is about the time my symptoms related to celiacs first started rearing their ugly head, but I didn't suspect anything yet. Sometimes my peripheral vision...
  6. glutino pretzels in the red bag. SO good. (don't know if they are CF, I realize, now)
  7. That reminds me....chicken w/ cranberry sauce, crushed pineapple, and sprinkled with cinnamon - then bake. Yum!
  8. When I'm feeling exceptionally lazy, I just saute some chicken in a pan with fruit jam - (I prefer apricot)...occasionally I add veggies and throw it over rice. Depending on the jam, sometimes I thin it out with a little water........... It's very sweet, but very tasty. I also have a great lemon chicken recipe. I can't think of all the ingredients...
  9. I get B12 injections monthly. I accidentally skipped a month and felt a drastic difference. When I was first diagnosed my levels were so low, I needed to get weekly injections. I haven't been able to bring myself to self-inject, yet......... After about 10 months of monthly injections I feel much less fatigued than I used to, but I think I'm still...
  10. Amy's Lays Stax (all flavors - but more so BBQ) Quaker Rice Cakes
  11. Welcome, Kiki! I was diagnosed a year ago, and I am still learning. This board has been a tremendous help! If your doctor has not, yet, make sure you get a full blood panel - checking all vitamin levels. My B-12 was so low, I had to begin weekly injections to start building it back up in my system after I began the diet. I also had to get a bone density...
  12. I live right near there. Let's see: Sesame Place is at an entrance to Oxford Valley Mall...Inside the circle around the mall you will find Red Robin -- Lettuce wrapped Protein Burgers and gluten-free fries Cheeburger/Cheeburger -- create your own salads (yum!) and they will wipe down the malt/shake machine for you to make a terrific banana...
  13. Yep - we're all different. I generally react within an hour, but the D comes and goes...then (lucky me) I get the bloating..... sometimes I get blurry vision, sometimes long, dull headaches...seems to vary.
  14. Apple slices or banana slices spread (generously!) with peanut butter. Then, climb into pj's, curl up in your favorite blanket, and ENJOY!

    ARCHIVED Duh!

Just realized I put a post in the wrong spot. Is there anyway I can move it myself, or do I just have to leave it until it's caught and look like a big goober.
  16. OK - sorry to go graphic - but I had some severe D tonight. (ick!) I could have been glutened at the lunch table today at work. It was excpetionally crumby and filthy today. I cleaned and cleared a spot and washed hands and was very careful, but you never know...... Still, and I may sound crazy here, it didn't feel like a glutening....It felt like...
  17. Good luck on the 25th! As far as pamphlets go, I'm not sure - but there are many many on-line resources that you could share with people - or print from. It's hard to explain sometimes. When I first went gluten-free I relied a lot on plain home-baked meats, fruits, and rice. Then I (slowly) started branching out. Buying food online can add...
  18. Wow! I cannot imagine how difficult this transition must be for the both of you! Yet, it is so good that he has received the correct diagnosis. I believe that my grandfather had celiac disease, yet never received a proper diagnosis. He had many symptoms and no explanation for them was ever offered. When I was diagnosed last April, my aunt mentioned celiac...
  19. Dr. Pepper is gluten-free, and I'm totally addicted to it. (So are the doctor pepper flavored jelly bellies - yum!)
  20. This company also produces kosher for passover meals that are also gluten free. Check out the website. I emailed them and got a prompt response. www.alleprocessing.com I tried their chicken wings (I microwaved them -- bad! Next time I"ll use the oven) And I tried a turkey frozen dinner w/ mashed sweet potato. Filling and Yummy!! I will...
  21. Jelly belly --- most flavors are gluten free (buttered toast is not...... go figure) We use jelly beans for the eyes and nose on our bunny cake. Plain m&m's might work for eyes, too. Good luck!!!
  22. Dietz and Watson ham is okay. I always ask them to wipe down the machine before they slice it, though, to avoid cc.
  23. Good point. Thank goodness all of that flour hasn't landed in the ice cream!!!
  24. Ran out this am to surprise my non-gluten-free fiance' with some donuts and oj...(he was thrilled) Go there often to get baskin robbins pistachio almond ice cream (yum!), but decided since it was am I would just get a regular coffee. Was careful about touching donut bag, etc. washed hands, and didn't even take the lid off of my coffee....but had a...
  25. NicoleAJ -- You may be safe. I was referring to Langhorne, PA -- but I would still be very diligent about cc -- especially since reading the other posts here. Good luck!!!
