ARCHIVED Gluten Free Etiquette?
nettiebeads replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A pretty good rule of thumb for life is not to hang around people who upset you if you can help it. Looks like you are practicing that. Why some people can't be accomodating I don't know. It's not like you jumped up and down with joy when you got her dx of celiac disease going "now I can draw all kinds of attention to my dd because of the celiac disease... -

ARCHIVED Ttg Numbers
nettiebeads replied to AmandaD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
With your quick mind and amazing grasp of a wide range of subjects, I bet you could be whatever you set your mind on. And if you were to be dr., would you specialize? And let me guess, autoimmune disorders? -
Sounds like they could be hemangiomas. Hereditary and harmless if they are. I don't know about being celiac disease related. I've had them all my life, but a while back I really broke out with them.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Soups
nettiebeads replied to GlutenGirl144's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As in store bought? I use a few of the Campbell's chunky Grilled Sirloin Steak, Campbells' select gold label Italian tomato with basil & garlic and the butternut squash one, Healthy choice Chicken w/ rice, oh, and the chunky chilis are okay, and Dinty Moore beef stew. Does that help? -

I can't handle red wine - severe allergic reaction, even if cooked in food. Sucks as my hubby makes WONDERFUL sauces (ex sous chef) -
ARCHIVED Food Ingredient Label Question To Mfg.
nettiebeads replied to Bigdawg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm very thankful for the new law - I was checking out a bag of candy on a coworker's desk and while it did not contain any gluten, it was made in a facility that also processes wheat. So not only was I saved from the calories , I was spared a possible cross-contamination. -
I emailed the co. and got a reply "...Smirnoff FMB products (Smirnoff Ice, Smirnoff Ice Triple black, Smirnoff Twisted V line) do not contain gluten, however they do contain a similar protein from barley called hordein. If you are able to tolerate beer, then you should have no problem with Smirnoff FMB products. If you need additional information on this...

ARCHIVED Low Body Tempature? A Cd Thing?
nettiebeads replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nah, I think it's your natural internal metabolism rate. Mine was low before celiac disease, still is. 98.6 is AVG. That means anything on either side within certain peramiters is normal. -
ARCHIVED Gf Diet Results Positive For Cf
nettiebeads replied to HannahMommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so glad to hear of her positive results!!! Don't worry about her not liking the gluten-free breadstuffs. After she's forgotten how regular bread tastes and feels she may be more accepting of it. I would try a little dairy now, and then see how she is for the next two to three days. I know Mac and cheese is a staple of any toddler's diet. But it sounds... -
ARCHIVED More Than Celiac
nettiebeads replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had celiac disease for 9 years and the problems I had with my cycles were unrelated. My dd (non celiac disease) was having problems with hers and had to go to three gyns before finding out she had PCOS. Is your dr a gp? Do you have a good gyn? I have found that my gps would kinda gloss over any questions or pains I was having related to my cycles... -
ARCHIVED Gf And Eggfree Corndogs And Moz Sticks!
nettiebeads replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bet if the batter were a little thinner you could use it as fritter batter - corn fritters, zuchinni, whatever. Or sweeten slightly for fruit fritters. I'm going to have to try that. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Bad Headaches?
nettiebeads replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it's a migraine. I get them. I think the four criteria are pain on one side of head, nausea, sensitivity to light, and sensitivity to noise. If you have two of these it's a migraine. Some people have triggers for them - red wine, nitrates (think over processed meats like bologna) chocolate and salt. Odors can set me off - some perfumes and vinegar... -
ARCHIVED Supplements
nettiebeads replied to michelle4breyer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, not similar, but I do believe what you have stated. I take one good multi vitamin/mineral, along with extra potassium, calcium with magnesium and zinc, plus 500 C and selenium. My prescribed meds are .0625 Premerin (full hysterectomy) and 50 mg zoloft (dysthymia). I concentrate better when I take my selenium which is good for my job (accountant)... -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Free Diet And Insects
nettiebeads replied to Matilda's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I remember reading somewhere that foods affect the taste of your blood and that mesquitos are very particular. One food item they supposedly don't like is garlic. Maybe it's just a wive's tale. I think I'm still as popular with the blood suckers as I always was and my husband cooks with a lot of garlic. Who knows? -
ARCHIVED How Do You All Explain It?
nettiebeads replied to Firegirl43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of the ladies at work refers to celiac disease as an allergy. I don't bother to correct her as at least she understands that I cannot have gluten products. I usually explain it as an autoimmune disorder. If they want details I tell them that they probably don't want to hear what happens as the subject comes up when we're eating. If people insist,... -
ARCHIVED New
nettiebeads replied to Susansmum's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi and good morning to you! Welcome to the world of gluten-free eating. First of all, you really didn't give much information as to how long you have probably had celiac disease before you were dx. The healing rate has many variables - the amount of damage done, your own natural healing rate, the length of time from onset of celiac disease to dx. You... -
ARCHIVED Non-celiacs
nettiebeads replied to fisharefriendsnotfood's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You obviously have a very caring mother who has also brought you up right. Maybe you can look at it from a different point of view - Feel sorry for the girl because she doesn't have good manners. But I know it doesn't make the hurt go away, but as you get older you will learn to realize that there will always be insensitive boors out there and focus instead... -
ARCHIVED Newbie To Cd

Hi and welcome to the forum. celiac disease is livable - one member wrote about her 80+ female relative who was dx 50 years ago! It takes some getting used to, but check out the threads related to products and restaurants and such. I used to be a major bread eater (warm biscuits dripping with butter and jam mmmm....) and loved to bake cookies and pies... -
ARCHIVED Lots Of Question!
nettiebeads replied to NYCisTHEplaceTObe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you are having such trouble getting a definitive answer. If it helps, you are describing the major "common" symptoms of celiac disease. Celiac has about 200 symptoms that can vary greatly from person to person. It is also one of the greatest mimickers out of all of the autoimmune disorders. And it is not as rare as once thought, just more drs (obviously... -
Maybe it's the oil in the skin that's doing it. Frenchiemama- I have the same as you with eggs. The immune system is a weird and tricky thing.

ARCHIVED Really Bad Experiences Yesterday
nettiebeads replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's an old saying that you can chose your friends but you can't chose your family. I'm glad your immediate family is supporting you and your husband is very understanding. You have to focus on the positive. Yes, you have and will continue to experience jerks in public (they're everywhere!) Be proud of the fact that you spoke up for yourself! You... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hair/skin Products
nettiebeads replied to Tangerine's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, no you aren't actually eating the products. But you are seriously risking cross-contamination. Except in lipstick - that would be direct contamination. I always figured err on the side of caution. You like looking good, but if you are contaminating yourself, then that would bring you down physically and who can look good when they are ill? -
1 - You WON'T heal unless you are totally 100% gluten free. When you do finally go gluten-free the healing time depends on many variables - length of time before being dx'd with celiac disease, amount of damage incurred pre-dx; and your own body's naturally healing rate. 2 - eating non-gluten-free is damaging, period. How damaging is a little amount of...

ARCHIVED Poop Question
nettiebeads replied to VydorScope's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
celiac disease, all the way. It floats because of the malabsorption of fats. One test that is sometimes used to dx celiac disease is fat content in stools. I wouldn't worry about it; when is your test?
