All the veggies you want, of course. Protein is good. I'd start with those and as you heal you'll feel better. A good rule of thumb is the outside aisles of the grocery store. All of the highly processed stuff in the center is most likely to have wheat products in them. Read labels - takes longer to shop, but you'll be less likely to contaminate yourself...

[That wonderful doctor told me "It's a simple blood test" and after a few clicks on his computer I was off to the lab for mine. A week later he called to tell me I was right; my blood test was positive for Celiac. My husband says, forget all the darn tests. Just quit eating gluten, and if you feel better - there's your answer. After all that I've been...

ARCHIVED Question About Results
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think so. And gluten sensitive can be a precourser for celiac. Either way the treatment is the same - gluten free diet. -

ARCHIVED Hindsight 20/20? Any Advice For The 6 Months Before You Got Preggers?
nettiebeads replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wasn't planning to get pregnant when i did (that's what usually happens though, isn't it?) And was riding my bike to work and back for a total of 6 miles a day. My bod was in the best shape it had ever been. (and hasn't been since and my baby is now 22 ) All the advice here is good. The folate, and excersize. Walking is the best though. You do want... -
I emailed them about 6 months ago. Their products are made in a facility that processes wheat and oats. They would NOT recommend their product for celiacs. I stopped eating them then and there. Annette

ARCHIVED Dried Fruit
nettiebeads replied to marcia24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As always, read labels. I remember picking up a package that had all the good things in there I could eat on front, started eating, turned the package over to read the fine print "wheat starch". GRR Guess it's used to help spread the preservatives or something. Individually I'm sure dried fruits are safe - raisins, apricots (my favorite) and such. Or... -
ARCHIVED Almost All Symptoms Are Gone
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's a start, a good start. Just stay with it. You said you noticed a decrease in symptoms. That shows you are on the right track. As for your other stomach problems, are you eating veggies? Winter squashes are really mellow tasting and don't bother the stomach; lots of people swear by mash taters as their primo comfort food. Don't do cheese or dairy... -
ARCHIVED I Survived Gall Bladder Removal!
nettiebeads replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm so glad for you! I was wondering if you had decided to go through with it. Guess what I had this a.m.? An ultrasound on my gall bladder. Won't know what's what until next week though. I'm praying all continues to go well for you. Annette -
ARCHIVED Plugged
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As many questions as you've had, you should be getting to the top of the learning curve fast. Yes C can be a symptom of celiac disease. That's what I have now, but i did start off with the classic D of celiac disease. (floating, frothy, pale and oh so very very stinky). Certain foods bind me - cheese, rice and bananas. But I can usually counter that... -
ARCHIVED Buckwheat
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Buckwheat is safe. So long as there are no other ingredients like wheat, spelt, triticale, rye or oats or barley. What brand? Some brands are more reliable than others. Annette -
ARCHIVED Worms Maybe?
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
RELAX!!! Oops, well, do what you can. I have a girlfriend that is OCD - hoarder though. Excessive hoarding and you get her out of her comfort zone - watch out!!! You are in the first part of celiac - the tough learning curve. Come here to vent, try to be normal around others. But you are right - you can't have people touching your food if they have handled... -
ARCHIVED Mother's Day I'm Going To A Big Italian Wedding!
nettiebeads replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like a wonderful wonderful day for you (and I'm sure the bride had a good time too). You've turned into quite the ambassador for celiac. And I hope your cuz can fatten you up!! (married?) So when do we plan YOUR wedding? Annette -
Contact your friendly county health department. I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction. Wanna know something funny? Since celiac I rarely get the flu. (Or maybe I'm just plain to ornry to get sick) I am constantly washing my hands and never never eat w/o washing first because of CC issues. I've been much more aware of touching hands to face...

ARCHIVED Mother's Day I'm Going To A Big Italian Wedding!
nettiebeads replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I sincerely doubt that you'll change anyone's mind. I think the best bet for you is to remind yourself that YOU are taking care of YOU the best way you know how. It's their problem if they don't want to open their minds to celiac. They're adults. And when was being a princess a bad thing? (think of the bumpersticker "you say b***h like it was a bad thing... -

ARCHIVED Worms Maybe?
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's an easy fix. Some remedies are even OTC, but I think it's for pin worms or round worms. But aren't round worms really a fungus? I forget. Anyhow, believe it or not, it's a common subject of farmer wives down here in the Ozarks. But no, I don't know any home remedies. And I think some of those "cures" are worse than the disease. Have your dr look... -
What you have done is the diet challeng, of sorts, and it is a very valid dx tool. I mentioned to my current gp that I was dx'd by diet alone 10 yrs ago and never had any of the "official tests". He saw no need for me to take tests since I KNOW what happens to me on gluten and the symptoms pre-dx were in line with celiac. His take on the current tests...

ARCHIVED Symptoms And Waiting For My Test Back!
nettiebeads replied to MrsC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear that! Don't mean to scare you, but you need to check toiletries (nasty old wheat starch and wheat germ oil and aveno (oats)) run rampant there. Also any otc - I was being healthy, I thought, by taking vitamins. Turned out when I finally read the fine print on the label that they had gluten in them! Sheesh! Don't be surprised if it takes... -

ARCHIVED Sore
nettiebeads replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
that's where lymph nodes reside. they could be inflamed from either an infection or crossed signals from the celiac making them think they have to go into overdrive. If you're not running a fever, I'd just take Advil or Aleve and lots of liquids (hey, that can't hurt) and time. Annette -
ARCHIVED You Probably Get A Lot Of These, But I'm Lost
nettiebeads replied to Future-MrsCornell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh yeah, celiac is quite an education for those who have it and those who live with them. My husband is great like that too. Loves figuring out how to make regular foods gluten free for me (he's an ex-sous chef) Anyhow, see the dr, get the celiac blood panel done, and the biopsy if ordered, then go gluten-free right away and see what happens. You might... -
ARCHIVED How Do People Function Without Sleep?
nettiebeads replied to DingoGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I can't say clear headed and alert, but I can stumble through the day if I drink Mountain Dew and/or take a non-drowsy head meds - ephredine and its equivilents do it for me. And some of the newer allergy meds like allegra. But then I've always been super sensitive to those type of things. Hope you get over your glutening quickly. Annette -
ARCHIVED Symptoms And Waiting For My Test Back!
nettiebeads replied to MrsC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh yeah - mine showed up after a really really nasty sinus infection. And lots of everyday stress. Anyhow, how are you while gluten-free? Some show improvements almost immediately. You might want to exclude dairy also, for now. If it is celiac, then the villi are damaged and that makes it really hard to digest dairy. You'll be able to reintroduce it... -
Glad to hear that! Keep up the positive thinking; remember we're rooting for you! Big HUG Annette
