  1. Lisa, Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I had the stomach flu last week and a lot of the symptoms I had overlap yours. It would be a good idea to go to the doctor and get checked out. I would think as time goes on you should begin feeling better if it's the flu. Sometimes it takes a week to get it out of your system. It sounds like you're really...
  2. Hey Rachel, My doctor told me that c. difficile can be caused by long courses of antibiotics. I've been on antibiotics for the past month for Lyme Disease and I was asked to monitor my GI symptoms. I take acidopholus twice a day to replace good bacteria in my intestine and it seems to help. Is H. Pylori a type of parasite? I think I was tested for it...
  3. I always felt sick before my diagnosis. I had constant stomach pain and other GI symptoms for about a year before I was diagnosed. It probably took a good 3-4 months before I began feeling better. Each day got a little better and a little easier on the gluten-free diet. I hope that your doctor's appointment goes well and that you discover the root of...
  4. Hey Danikali, That's a really good question. Can your body have varying symptoms after being glutened? I'm not sure. Some of my symptoms have been different each time, but I"m not sure if that's typical for everyone.

    ARCHIVED Mass Doc

I live on the Cape, so my GI doctor is probably too far away for you to see. Berneses mentioned Dr. Ciaran Kelly. I've also heard that he's very good. My sister-in-law is in medical school and her class studied his research on Celiac during her GI rotation. Sounds like he knows his stuff.
  6. Hi MSFL, I am glad that you are finally starting to get the help you need. It sounds like you work for a good company-one that really cares about its employees. You have been getting some great advice here. I will be thinking of you and hope that you get some answers soon.
  7. Man oh man do I feel your pain...I just got over the stomach flu. I had it for about a week. I'm pretty new to celiac, so I thought maybe I was having a reaction. I work in a school and several of the kids have had the same symptoms. I rested a lot, drank flat ginger ale, and ate foods in the BRAT diet. I hope you are feeling better soon.

    ARCHIVED Osteoporosis

Thanks, George. I like that idea. I have been in bed most of the day with body/bone aches. I feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck. I'll try to speak with the doctor tomorrow. Can osteoporosis be prevented/reversed with diet, vitamins, and exercise alone? Jen H

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

Hey Rachel, It must make a huge difference having a doctor who actually lives the life we do. He sounds like he's experienced the gluten-free diet and knows about some of the secondary illnesses that may occur. I think some of the best doctors are the ones who take a personal interest in an illness and have experienced its effects.
  10. I haven't tried Food for Life wraps, but Mission makes corn tortillas that say "gluten free" right on the package. Also, Trader Joes has corn tortillas. I had some last night when we made fajitas. I also use them to make sandwich wraps for work.
  11. The other night my dad asked if I wanted to go out and have pizza with him. My mom just rolled her eyes at me and said, "Sorry, he just doesn't get it."
  12. I love their bread. I've been buying the "Food for Life" bread and the slices are so small. The whole foods bread makes me feel like I'm eating a real sandwich again. They also have a marinade called "Bone Sucking Sauce" that's really good. It's a tangy sweet and sour sauce that I put on my chicken. The bread and the sauce are a bit expensive, but it...

    ARCHIVED Osteoporosis

Thanks for writing, George. I read the leafltet about Fosamax and I guess my biggest concern is that it seems to have some nasty side effects, some of which seem pretty harmful. I took it for the first time yesterday and woke up this morning with some mild chest pain, bone and body aches. Is that normal? I'm 28 and am not sure I want to take the stuff...
  14. Hi Moongirl, I haven't been to a Healthy Villi meeting yet, but I may go to the one on January 29th @ Mass Bay College. There is a support group on the Cape, but the Healthy Villi seems more organized and geared toward "newbies" like myself.
  15. Hey Moongirl, I noticed you are from Boston. I live on Cape Cod. Have you checked into the Healthy Villi support group? I try to lay low and eat comfort foods when I get glutened. I drink flat ginger ale and water and I eat things in the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, tea/toast).

    ARCHIVED Osteoporosis

Thank you guys for replying. Once you have osteoporosis, do you always have it? I know that medication and exercise can help, but does it ever go away? I just started taking Fosamax with Vitamin D. I take it once a week. The package says the pill contains enough vitamin D for the week. Mace, you mentioned side effects. I have been nauseous and...

    ARCHIVED Nausea

Ahh...welcome to my world. I was diagnosed with celiac disease back in August and have been on the gluten-free diet ever since. I assumed my nausea would dissappear as I continued the diet. I tend to get more nauseated around the time of my period. I asked my GYN about it and she said that it could be hormonal. Around that time I was having food allergy...
  18. Hi, I had a bone density test recently and found out I have osteoporsis. I know that people with celiac have malabsorption issues and I was wondering if that makes us more prone to getting osteoporosis? Also, if you have osteoporosis, I was wondering what treatment you follow (medication, exercise, vitamins). Is anyone on Fosamax? Thanks, Jen H.
  19. Amoxicilin was pretty much the only antibiotic I was able to tolerate until now. I think taking all those antibiotics prior to my celiac disease diagnosis did a load of damage to my body. You'd think celiac disease was enough without contracting Lyme. I hate ticks.
  20. Thank you both for replying. I also took a lot of antibiotics before my diagnosis because the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. I never had a problem with antibiotics until then. Jersey Angel, when you couldn't tolerate an antibiotic you were able to take before, did your doctor switch your medicine or did your body adjust? The other one I could...
  21. Hi Healthwarrior, I was just diagnosed with Lyme a few days ago. I'm trying to find out as much information about it as I can. Can you recommend a good website and the name of the forum you joined? Thanks so much.
  22. Hi, I hope this is the right spot for this post. I need to take 30 days of antibiotics and checked with Teva Pharmaceutical Company to find out if their amoxicilin is gluten-free. They said they couldn't guarantee it because of outside sources, but seemed pretty sure that it is gluten-free. I have Lyme Disease and MUST take an antibiotic, so I started...
  23. As for potato chips, I like Green Mountain Gringo's corn tortilla chips. It says "gluten-free" right on the bag. They have an excellent salsa too.
  24. Hi celiac3270, If you get a chance, could you please send me the Delphi List unzipped? Thanks so much! jennifer_mark@hotmail.com
  25. Thanks, I was just wondering how you found about your soy intolerance. I am in the middle of allergy testing and found out I am also intolerant to soy. It's been incredibly hard to keep it out of my diet. I have been very nauseous and have had stomach pain as well. I'm hoping it's just gluten and soy that I have to stop eating. How long did it take for...
