I am wondering if it is worth it to drive all the way to Sam's CLub. What gluten free items do they carry? I mean besides the obvious fruits, veggies, and meats.
Maybe you can narrow down your question about a specific product.

I am really looking forward to the article. I hope someone can post it here, when available.

Hi and Welcome!
You will have to post the ranges, because every lab has a different interpretation. Also, this is the full Celiac panel:
Antigliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgG and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
Testing is not as accurate as we would like at this time, especially in children under the age of five. There are many mothers here with children with Celiac. They are always willing to help or offer support.

There are other causes for the blunting of the villi, as in alcohol abuse and malnutrition, as well as a few other intolerances.
Open Original Shared Link
Although villous atrophy is not exclusive of celiac disease, it is considered a crucial finding. Other causes of blunted villi include tropical sprue, malnutrition, intolerance to cow's milk, soy protein intolerance, and infectious gastroenteritis. However, most of these conditions can be readily excluded on the basis of clinical history and laboratory data.

Hi Beth,
Here is an interesting article:

You might consider having an endoscopy exam to biopsy the effective areas. Or try the diet for a month or two to see if you have a positive dietary results.
I am not certain how prevalent Celiac Disease is in Asian countries or how current the medical field would be in diagnosing and testing.
Continue looking until you have answers.

If the ingredients list just corn starch - there should be no gluten in there.

Hi Lyn,
I'm not sure there is a "norm". We vary so much in severity. I would stick to the recommendations.
Eat a piece of pizza for me.

I started Peri-symptoms at 35 and after a full ten years, done. I was diagnosed around 50. I haven't a clue if it was Celiac related and I can't check on my family history regarding the lady issues.

What other conditions cause the same as celiacs? Any help is greatly appreciated as im going around in circles at the moment.
Thanks
You can look into Lyme Disease. It can mimic symptoms such as those of Celiac Disease.

I have gone out to eat twice this week. I'm finding it more and more difficult to do this. Not much to choose from! Anyway, I ordered a seasoned chicken breast and french fries. I just assumed the fries would be o.k.! But, after both meals my energy shot down and I was pretty tired. Was I wrong to assume french fries were o.k.?!
Even though potatoes are gluten free, those fries were most likely fried in oil that also fries other breaded foods such as onion rings, chicken tenders, fish stick...you get the picture.
I don't orded fries at a restaurant unless they assure me that they have a dedicated frier and unseasoned, just for the french fries.
It's a tough world out there!

Start with naturally gluten free foods, meats, veggies, and fruits, then slowly add other things in. Also it helps to keep a notebook/food diary so you can look back over what you may have eaten if there are any questions.
Excellent advise. A food diary can be very helpful. Watch meds, vitamins, a private toaster and any shared jellies or jars with non-gluten free eaters. Check on snacks when your child is out of the house. Gluten is very tricky and it can be found everywhere.
This is a great place for support and shared information.

Yes, your son had Celiac. Rarely will you find false positives in a serologic blood panel for Celiac. The biopsy may not have been sampled from an infected area or it could be early enough not to cause a great deal of damage.
With a positive blood test, coupled with a noticeable irritated gut with failure to thrive, I would put your son on a gluten free diet immediately. A positive dietary response will leave you with no doubt about his diagnosis.
This is a great place to meet people in your same position. Welcome

YUM! I had the brownies last night and wow! It tasted like I was eating the old gluten mixes I loved so much. I called the company and she said they are in the process of making more gluten free mixes due to overwhelming responses

Very few celiacs are likely to have any reaction to topical gluten contact. In order for a gut reaction to occur, it is likely that direct contact with the gut lumen is required. Many people with celiac disease have everyday contact with gluten (for instance, bakers with celiac disease who have contact everyday with wheat flour), and do not have any reaction to it. However, there are, on rare occasion, people who have had an anaphylactoid response to gluten, and these people should avoid gluten in all forms. Also, topical gluten breathed into the upper airways may cause symptoms of allergic rhetinitis in rare instances. If there is a simple alternative to a shampoo, cosmetic, etc., you may want to use the non gluten containing product.

Have you tried Kinnikinnick Donuts. They are not as light as regular donuts but darn need as good. My favorite are the chocolate covered donunts that I eat frozen.
By the way, they are gluten free, wheat free, dairy free and soy free. Can't beat that!
I would leave Dunkin Donuts in the dust!!!!!!!

"Our alcohol is derived from a fermentation and distillation process and is gluten-free."
If the alcohol is distilled (and this seems to be the case, according to this quote), it is considered safe for Celiac.
There may be a few who will react to minute amounts of trace gluten in wheat based alcohol, but generally most people with Celiac Disease will not react to such small amounts, if even detectable.

Oh the irony

I have always heard that when you suffer from malabnortion, your body steals from the available fat storage in your bottom and the pads of your feet.

Pork in itself is gluten free. Preseasoned pork may contain gluten.
Early into healing it's pretty hard to pin-point a glutening because everything we eat will be an irritant until some healing can take place, gluten or not.
You also might be aware that a shared mustard jar my be contaminated by spreading on gluten bread and double dipping.

Meg44 I am writing a book with publisher contract on Natural Healing Kitchen Pharmacy An Apple A day, and high serum levels is a well know sign of copper deficiency strangely enough the body is trying to mobilize copper for repair. Your daughter should get 2 to 4 mg of copper a day irrespective of what analysis she has and this 2 to 4 mg simply does not occur in the industrial American diet. Also she should take as much vitamin C as she can tolerate this will strengthen vein and arteries also. It is hard to say how much everybody is different 2000 mg and if and cut down if not tolerated.
Sound professional medical advise should not be substituted.

Kraft will list all forms a gluten on the ingredient listing. If you don't see it there, it ain't in there

In the US Modified Food Starch is generally derived from corn unless otherwise stated. If derived from wheat it must be listed as "modified food starch (wheat)". Barley, malt or rye would not be an option.
-
Coffee in itself is gluten free and it is not dusted with flour to keep the beans from sticking. Flour would be considered one of the eight main allergens and full disclosure would be required.
Enjoy your coffee.

Thank you, Peter, for your informative reply to my confusion! What is the difference between gluten intolerance and sensitivity in terms of blood works, i.e., can these tests determine "sensitivity?"
Here is some information that can answer you questions:

I would think not, but then I have not noticed. WalMart seems to have more products.
My Sam's list consists or whole salmon filet, lamb chops, frozen scallops, Emeril's sausages, great beef filets, cheeses and a giant container of Aleve.
