I apologize for the abruptness of some. Although the promotion of personal websites are discouraged, I am sure that it was just an oversight on your part.

Since you have been lurking here since November, you know how kind and helpful the people on the Board are and their knowledge is vast.

I would like to encourage you to join us again. Going gluten free is very hard to do when you are standing in a room all by yourself.

    Please join us.

    Lisa

PS: There are many scrapbookers here!!

  2. Joni:

Welcome. You have found a wonderful site and all you question will be answered. I can offer a few.

Some here have felt better after just a few day and on the flip side, some have taken months to feel better. I believe it depends on the amount of damage to your intestines.

Being gluten free is very complex and complicated. You need to check your shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, lipstick, ie everything that can get into you mouth. To start with Dove shampoo is gluten free, as is Crest, Dove lotion and Burt's Bee's lip glosses and neutrogena glosses are gluten free.

Others here are more advanced on yeast issues, so I will defer to them.

On this site, in the opening page, as said, you can scroll down and get many articles as well as a safe and forbidden list.

It is so very overwhelming in the beginning. But soon you will be able to read labels. The folks here have more knowledge than you will find in the general medical community.

If you have questions regarding any general product, please feel free to PM me.

The board gets a little show during the weekend......but you will get you answers.

    Welcome to Celiacland.

  3. She is the sweetest little rodent. :P

I had such a sweet experience with an elderly gentleman in the supermarket about a year ago. I was in line with probably ten items (the express line) but he only had a gallon of milk so I told hm to go in front of me. No big deal. as he's leab=ving, he turns and hands me a card that says:

I Said a Prayer for You today

I said a prayer for you today and I know God must have heard,

I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word.

I didn't as for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn't mind)

I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that He'd be near you at the start of each new day

To grant you health and blessings and friends to send your way.

I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small,

But it was for His loving care I prayed for most of all!

I've carried it in my wallet ever since. :D

Ahhh man, I had a very sad day today and when I read that, I got tears in my eyes. I read it three times. After reading it three times, I knew that this had my name on it. And, I smiled.

Thank you Bev. I think that this is one of those "pay it forward" moments. (a sappy me? )

  4. BA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the results are in...sorry I'm so late in posting but there was a celebratory lunch at Legal Sea Foods including a celebratory Pomer-ita (con tequila!) followed by a LONG celebratory nap :D

So, the good news is no tumor, no cyst but one sore and slightly swollen lymph node! Good for "the girls" and the tassel twirling may resume (but still don't know what's causing the pain in armpit and arm). But at least it's not BC (and I DON"T mean Boston College :P ).

Thank you all sooooo much

Good for you and...........resume the twirling!!!! :P (wildly!)

  5. I have both the Restaurant Guide and the Dining Cards. I would recommend both. The cards come in five languages and wonderful in Chinese and Mexican Restaurants. It eliminates much of the language confusion.

When I travel, I know what Dining options I have that either have a gluten free menu or celiac friendly.

  6. OMG, you are dealing with soooo much. With a new baby and a new gluten free diet. That would be overwhelming to anyone. It has been a long time since I have had babies, and that in itself if a hard transition.

How can we help? Can we offer you easy to fix recipes that are gluten free and easy and quick?

    Let me start:

    Hillshire Farms Sausage, pan fried

    Boiled potatoes

    Salad - Newmans Dressings

    Scrambled Eggs

    Oscar Meyer Bacon

    Ortega Hash Browns

Beef, Chicken, Tuna, Salmon, Pork and there are so many options.

There is a wonderful thread here about recipies, please check this out.

Please let us know how we can help you.

  7. Since the most doctors are not too familiar with Celiac, they often send us on our ways to fend for ourselves. I find this a terrible thing to do, but it does happen.

Going gluten free if totally overwhelming. Everyone here started at the beginning.

It will take some time for your intestines to heal and the longer you are on the diet the better you will feel.

Gluten hides everywhere. Please check your shampoos, lotions, toothpaste or anything that can get into your mouth.

Please feel free to ask for information on a starters list for gluten free products. There are a lot of wonderful people here who share their time to offer assistance in helping people understand this crazy disease.

Welcome to our world and feel free to join in.

  8. Jerry:

Please correct me if I am wrong, but have you not felt better eliminating gluten from your life. I know that you have added it into your diet to test. I know that everyone needs to do what they feel comfortable with. If you feel you need the written word, then go for the testing. It is all a personal choice

If you do test and it is negative, you still know that you feel better gluten free. Sooo, that's up for you to decide.

I was different. I was in the bathroom for two months and could not leave the house, much less the room. I was tested by a gastro dr. I had scalloped walls, flat villi, gastritis and a large hiatal hernia.

They told me I had Celiac, and I asked what in the world is that. And the door slammed on my you know what. Hence, my arrival here.

  9. I think both could have been an issue. Most likely the Rot. Chicken from Walmart. I KNOW that the ones at Sams have wheat in them - Sam Walmart..

KC Masterpiece could have hit you as well. I am not certain.

    Suggestion:

Tyson Roasted Whole Chicken was gluten free the last that I checked and very good, easy and fast.

Sweet Baby Ray's is the best off the rack BBQ Sauce that I have ever had. I never doctor it up, it's good as it is.

  10. Hey!

Now that the novelty of having brown rice whenever I want it has worn off, I am looking for ways to make it more interesting. Anyone have good ideas for spices or combinations of spices? Or good (and easy) sauce recipes? I miss soy sauce.

    Thanks!

    Sara

    Sara:

La Choy Soy Sauce is gluten free, and easily available.

  11. I have been to the Red Robin and the PF Changs near DFW.

(Momma Goose-Texas Roadhouse no long has a gluten-free menu. They revoked it, and are working on it. Just so you know. If you go to a local Texas Roadhouse, then you might be able to work with the managers there that you know, but as a general rule, they do not have a national gluten-free menu. I have called the corporate office about this several times.)

Thanks T, I will make note as not to pass it along. :)

  12. Char:

The blood test are not one of my most informed areas...

But, I guess that would depend on how long Emma has been gluten free. My blood tests were negative after I was gluten free for two months. I did have a positive biopsy when i was dx'd.

If Emma is improving on the diet, you may want to consider not testing (mine cost $1,500) it is quite costly. The bottom line here is that if she is improving and continuing to thrive, your questions have been answered. But that is ALWAYS a parental choice.

    Her picture is very sweet.
