Judy.
I think that you are sooo right. Sometimes I have to walk away from the board, because it can be so very consuming. We all deal with it in everyday life, then sit on the computer for hour and take in more.
Although the ones who have been here for over a year, have learned to read lables and life does become easier. I do try to be there for the newbies, just because I remember. I also have made some dear friends here that I have never met.
We went to the doctor to day to review my one year blood work. I wanted to know if there were any red flags. I even fussed because my doctor did not know much about celiac disease. I know more than he does. My numbers were off and he had no solution.
But I know why. I'm going to make a confession here. I drink too much in the evening, around dinner time, I am not hungry. I don't eat. You don't eat, you don't get the fuel for you body to work properly...and on and on. ....so your blood work gets off.
How's that for a confession and reason for "thinking out of the box". Thinking and doing are two different issues.
Feeling bad is not alway about Celiac.

OK:
Current symptoms: Arm tremors, hair loss, fatigue, lack of concentration, memory issues, brusing, no interest in food.
Most everything was below the average, WBC, Platelets,Folic, B-12. He said that the blood panel was not normal for a 51 year old, but he doesn't know where to go with it. Pushed Lexipro, as if the fatigue is depression, gheshhhhh.
Suggested seeing a rhumotologist and asked if there was a Celiac Research Center. I suggest Dr. Peter Green at the Univ of MD. I had a pros biopsy a year ago August, but he did the blood test 3 months later, and I was gluten free by then so I think that he is not sure it is Celiac. Every darn doctor wants to do their own test!!!
I guess that it is nothing to get concerned, just have to eat better, drink less
I still cannot understand why more doctors don't know anything about all this by now.

We feel it's time to bug out of here and take a road trip. We want to leave home and slowly take the scenic route up to Maine.
Any suggestions for stops along the way?
Thanks Lisa

It would be a good week-end away. What a wonderful thought. Where would a good place to meet for dinner and drinks.
I did grow up literally across the street from Ann S. Moore, who is Time/Warner CEO. We played wiffleball in her driveway. That was the place to be. When I could not have soft drinks in my home, I went to Mrs. S's house and got a good dose of cream soda. Ann's mother is the only one that I know who knew all the answers to Jeapordy, never sweat an answer. It is not so much that it's Ann's home place, but it's Mrs. S. house..........the Cantononi was the best you ever tasted.
Ann was in high school then and went on to Vanderbilt U. I wish that my parents were living, I would like to come back. That was my home. My home is here now.
Let's keep in touch you NoVa peeps, I would like to come up an meet you guys.

Ok Carla, give it up.....six kids and you look so beautiful. What's the deal here? Combined family, is my guess, cause you can't look that beautiful and sexy with six children.
Your picture is gorgeous

???, but I think that I'm in the wrong room here.

OHHH, I'm thinking SPCA. Towns have ordinances and often you may have one dog or two. Lynne, look into what your town requires regarding pets. There are limits. They may very well be in violation of the town ordinances. Check it out. Or build a very big fence. Fences make good neighbors.

Ahhhhhh, you guys are making me home sick. I grew up in McLean and went to McLean High in the dark ages. Hung out at McDonalds, much to the distress of my father. Believe it or not, I used to ride horses where Tyson's 1 is now. Later I worked at "Susies Casuals", when home from college.
It is all a very strange place for me now, but a good place to be from.

Welcome
And I am certainly glad that you feel comfortable to post here. We all want this forum to be a friendly and welcoming as possible. Remember, we all were where you are now and can recall the "lost" feelings.
As many of us have said previously, I personally feel the need to "pay if forward" as Karen has said. Many have become very good friends and I feel that I have a debt to pay. I will continue to help others as they have done for me.
It's nice to get a thank you, though.

That is sooo cool. Duh, I thought that soy sauce could only be bought in the store. Man, a new wrinkle in my brain.
(when you learn something new, you get a new wrinkle in your brain, as my children have always told me.)

I believe that "Ocean Girl" is also from Maine. Gosh, I wish I was.

Not I said the red hen.

I ditto Ev
La Choy (dull and boarding) but gluten-free. I use this in marinades
Wheat Free Tamari (more potent, but better than La Choy), I use this for taste.

Hey B:
Good to hear from you. Lord knows, when it rains, it pours sometime. And it take a strong person to work things out. As we get older, unfortunatly, we will see more of bad things happening to good people. Who was it that said "life is not for sissies".
I hope that everything will settle down for you and hoping for strengh for you in helping your friends during a terrible time in their lives.

After reading your post, I would like t
No, welcome to this board and I hope the we can afford you some anwsers to you questions. Celiac Disease is not something that we deal lightly. This is a disease that many, if not all of us have hurddles that we deal with on a daily basis and with issues that many arise in the future do to the effect rendered upon us by all different avenues.
If you would like to try the gluten free diet and with the hopes of feeling better, I would stongly suggest that you do do. Please let us know of your results. Perhaps that may be the result of your fatigue.
If your truely feel that you have Celiac or a gluten intollerance, I would STRONGLY suggest that you get tested. If you would like to go gluten free, let us know
It is very complicated and not a trendy diet for most of us here. It is a live saver.
I hope you feel better soon.

Lister,
You know we all love you, but it is time to learn to read lables. Remember, wheat, barley, rye, and barley.
Go to the Kraft foods, because they will always list the ingredence on the lables. If you pick up a bag of rice and it list, "rice" as the only ingendent, you're good for go..........
Here is something for you to try:
4 Chicken Breasts:
Place in a pan that was sprayed with "pam", yes guten free (except the flour ones)
Cut up strips of Oscar Meyer Bacon in half and place over chicken breasts
Salt and Pepper to taste, I like to add garlic salt (McCormicks)
Mix up a can of Progresso Mushroon Soup and One cup of sour cream, and a little Hellmans Mayo...into a bowl and mix............Pour over the chicken.
Bake for 45minutes, or until the chicken is tender and does not look pink.
Cook regular rice, by direction on the box or bag.
Add some steamed fresh veggies to the dinner and you're fit for a king.
Try it, you'll like it.

Are there any other concerns about your mother's behavior. She apparently has had some major changes in her life. Is she coping well with those changes? You sound like a wonderful daughter. Please look at all aspects of her situation. If not Celiac, perhaps an intolerance could be an issue. Offer your assistance at all times and alway make her know that you are there for her as I am sure you have.
I have not had a mother in so many years, so I am a little slack as to how to deal with the mom deal. I do hope you find a solution.

I think Karen is right. It looks like it was the way she said it, not what she said. Or the way it was taken, the basic information was that celiac damage can for most people be reversed.
Yes, as intended......Celiac Disease has no CURE, but will proper control the damage can be repaired much of the time.

Apparently, I missed somethings on the recent posts, but don't feel that I need to spend too much time there.
I wanted to make a point, that this board if for all, who have been efflicted by Celiac. It is for support of the old ones (I'm getting close) and the newbies as well.
Celiac DOES not end with a diognosis, or a diet change. With hope it will be secured for further damage.
Is there hope here for me as the diognosis continues to morf into other issues, that as others have gone before me, could offer support.
Hey, as I continue through this avenue of my life, I am open to suggestions and I can choose them or loose them. I am a smart person. I can do my own research and I can make my own judgments and I can also ask qualified people as I choose are qualified. My life is in my hands and my hand alone.
(disclaimer: I browsed through alot of recent post, which were enough for me to make the precededing comments. If I am on the wrong road on this thread, I appoligize. But I read enough that I thought it important that I should post my thoughts, which are directed to no one in particular, I don't even remember names, nor the source of comment.)
Lisa
Correction: Celiac Disease can be corrected with the proper diet as a must, and it can reverse intestinal damage by diet controll, but it MAY develop into other autoimune issues if not taken into control.
Catch Y'all Later.

Nope, not me. I have NEVER seen you post to someone that was not positive or supportive. Your our "feel good Friend", because you always make us feel better.
I know alot of people on this board struggle with many personal issues, and still they take time to help others. Now that's the amazing aspect of being a member here.
