They can use anything they want as long as it's derived naturally from a food source.
No, as I understand it to believe that they don't have to list any additives of flavors if it's derived from an Orange source.
If wheat were added, it by law would be required to be listed as a source or ingredient.
I would find it highly improbable that OJ would contain any gluten.

If it doesn't specifically say "gluten-free" on the package, there is no guarantee that there isn't gluten in it. There are all sorts of additives to orange juice.
There is no legal standard adopted in the US to determine what is to eligible to be labeled gluten free. Gluten free labeling is totally voluntary at this time.
I would prefer to be a good label reader, to insure for myself that what I am eating is suitable for my diet. A product labeled "gluten free" means nothing to me at this time....just sayin'

Or as you questioned, he could be developing other intolerance as many people here have experiences.
I would try to "clean" up his diet for a while, double check on the gluten exposure and see if that helps. If not, try to eliminate soy or another suspected intolerance.
And msg should be avoided just because it's nasty, not because of gluten.
Others will be around who have multiple intolerance who can be a great help to you.

I'm not familiar with that brand. If he is just beginning the diet, all foods can be bothersome until some healing takes place, gluten free or not.
It took me about six months to become healthier, for me to experience a specific reaction to gluten in something I ate.
I would suggest a simple diet of natural/whole foods for a while and add additions one at a time. And limit dairy products for about a month, then try it again.
Also, until he is healthier, that mid day bloating is not uncommon.

I have Been gluten free for just over a year now and I'm still a work in progress but I was wondering when glutened can there be a delay to the effects from it? Gluten seems to affect my hormonal/nervous system the most more so than digestive and I've had a shocker last 2 weeks and worked out that before christmas I was having icypoles that had gluten in them! but the reaction wasnt straight away but days later.
Yup, your reaction time can vary, especially with some healing time behind you. But it can be different from person to person. Sometimes it makes it hard to figure things out though.

I am 43, I have been gluten free for more than 10 years. I was diagnosed in my 20s with Chronic bulimia because it didn't go away at the time "most girls" get over it. I now know that yes, there were some emotional aspects...especially in my teens and early 20's but mostly, it's gluten. So most of the time I am just fine and dandy. Once in a while though I'm not careful enough and I get gluten into my system. This almost invariably causes a binge/purge cycle...and I am just so very, very "over" this. Can anyone tell me the best and fastest way to get gluten out of my system so that I can reduce the reaction. Both my autistic 18 year old and I are gluten free, but my husband and 19 year old daughter are not, so there is always gluten in the house. My latest adventure involved soy sauce. I forgot to tell them gluten free at the restaurant, and decided to eat the food anyway. This was a mistake...

You post kinda hit me hard. Two years ago December 21 my gorgeous classical dancer niece died. She struggled with an eating disorder, and also had some emotional issues in her youth. She enjoyed some drinking, but not to a great excess...and her system just could not handle it and shut down. We lost her. And it was tragic loss for the world.
I feel the power is in your hands or ask for the hands of others. I would advise you to be more careful with your diet, so a bulimic response is not necessary. And if you need some additional counseling to manage your eating, please do. If you need your home to be totally gluten free for your health, do it. Your gluten eating family members are old enough to deal with it. They can eat gluten outside the house and respect your health as well as your daughters, while they are in your home.

I think this is rather a personal blog, rather than primary information. Many facts listed here are inaccurate for instance:
MODIFIED FOOD STARCH – starch that has been chemically altered to improve its thickening properties. Before the starch is modified, it is separated from the protein through isolation techniques; therefore, the source of the starch used is not required on the label.
Wheat, being one of the eight allergens must be listed in as a component in Modified Food Starch, if used.
Information directly from the FDA would be more factual.

This probably won't answer your question and you might know this already but Burt Bee's used to be considered gluten free expect for a few of their items that contained oat but since changing they now can no longer guarantee their products are gluten free, because of this I don't use any Burt Bees products except for their toothpaste which is just a risk I've decided to take.
Yup...sorry to say they are going with the "SAFE" response. As long as they continue to list all of their ingredients, I will buy their products. The caster oil that I posted, should be so minimal as not to be a concern.
It's only worth a post to those of us who used to be fed caster oil to make us all "happy and regular".

So sorry Bartful, that you are going through this worry. I think that my doctor would listen to me and suggest running some tests (that he suspected).
When the tests were returned, that's when he would have a sit down with me and explain the test results.
Stay positive. I know all too well that a positive attitude can make a LARGE difference in your health.

Raleigh and Durham are both super options, with lots of young professional, and only a couple of hours from the ocean.
Or, if you are looking for a small community with a good hospital try Northeast North Carolina. RN's and LPN are always in demand around here.

Adipose tissue definitely stores some interesting stuff.
I heard a story of a woman who lived near a pesticide-sprayed farm. She started losing weight quickly on a low-carb diet and ended up with acute pesticide poisoning. This is from a reliable doctor who was smart enough to figure what was happening and treat her correctly.
Lisa, bioaccumulation of toxins in adipose tissue is well documented. DDT accumulating in bird adipose tissue nearly wiped out a lot of bird species and buildup of methylmercury in fish oils (they are oily rather than fatty) is what makes eating too much tuna dangerous. Humans are not magically immune from the phenomenon. Lose a lot of weight quickly and decades of accumulated heavy metals, PCBs, pesticides, and even prescription medicines have to go somewhere. It's usually your bloodstream.
Gluten is alcohol soluble rather than water soluble so it's not unimaginable that a little could end up in your fat. I've never heard anything one way or the other. I hope it passes quickly, whatever it is!

So... could gluten build up in our system, as a toxin and hide only to be released though specific dietary means or by other means? I understand that gluten is the incorrect term. Would it be the gliadin?
It seems reasonable to me that chemicals could find a home in our bodies anywhere, with exposure. But I don't understand how gluten can fire an autoimmune response and then, wait and fire again.

I am not the best person to reply to your questions, because I have not had an issue maintaining a reasonable weight, when healthy (post diagnosis).
Through this diet, you obviously are missing some minerals/foods to maintain all your mechanics. You might want to reconsider your approach, adding some protein or carbs. Balance is the key.
I have never heard of "re-releasing" gluten into your system, from your body.
And, I'm not a fan of specialty diets. I prefer to think that slimming down your consumption and daily exercise is the best method. Eat cleanly and move your body and expand your mind.

I've been meaning to write a book someday. Several of us on here talked about collaborating on a book to help friends and family understand cross-contamination, but it never took off. I'm hoping that when I have enough articles on my blog I can eventually pick out ones on various topics, update them, and turn them into books.
I don't think it would be ok to take posts from here and make them into something separate to sell, the copyright issues would be all over the place. But if people want to collaborate on a book I'm all for it and would love to be a part of it!
My son wanted to write a book for kids about what it's like to do the GAPS diet but we haven't gotten around to that yet, either, but I know it would be really cool. He was so frustrated when I got books about being gluten-free but they didn't reflect his experience since he was allergic to corn, too.
I always thought that a C.com cookbook would be a great idea. But, that's up to the Boss.

I'm a newbie to the forums as well as my diagnosis (1 month now). Celiac.com has been a life saver for me, so first of all THANKS!!!! for this site.
So, my question: Is there a saltine cracker that is gluten free? I've tried a couple of crackers, but they are pretty bland.

I have never seen a saltine like cracker, but Glutino crackers are pretty good. They're more like a Ritz and come in various flavors.

Mexican Coke uses sugar, rather than High Fructose Corn Syrup. I have not tried it, but I heard it's GREAT!
