The label looks different then this on the link. My label says Mouthwash clean and fresh. I called the customer 1-800 number and the person I talked to said that "yes this does contain gluten" After reading your post I decided to try again and see if I get the same answer. I got a different person, after giving them the numbers on the back of the bottle she said the same thing. " yes this mouthwash contains gluten" I don't which ingredient it is that has gluten in it but it would explain why I have feeling awful every morning, because I have been trying to figure it out to 2 weeks. I going to stop using it and see. I'll let you know.
I *THINK* that the ingredient in question is the alcohol. In past years alcohol was considered a gluten source. Currently, it is considered gluten free regardless of the source of the grain due to the distillation process (it removed the offending gluten)......don't think that the information has gotten out yet to the customer relations peeps. And many times, its a CYA statement. ....it's so tough to learn.
....but then, I may be wrong. I do find it difficult to believe that gluten would be in mouth wash.

Hi....I have a mouth piece I wear at night to prevent teeth grinding. I soak it in 1/2 water 1/2 mouthwash during the day. I have been constantly nauseous for a couple of weeks now and called the company to see if what I thought was gluten free mouthwash really wasn't. I just found out is wasn't!! So glad to know the cause. But now because this expensive mouth piece has been soaking in this stuff what do I do now. I thought about boiling it. and now I need to find a new mouthwash. Any suggestions on the mouth piece or what to use now?
The mouthwash I was using it Walmart Equate fresh mint.

Don't see any culprits here regarding gluten, but it is obviously something in the ingredients is bothering you.
Try another mouth wash to see if it gets better. All Crest mouth rinses, toothpastes and white strips are gluten free.

Chicken broth, by Swanson and others pretty much list their ingredients.
Sometimes, the longer you are gluten free, the more delayed your reactions are. It does vary, which makes it more difficult to back-tract to a source.

All of Smucker's Jellies and Jams are gluten free in the US.

Yup, I am in agreement with Mushroom...biopsy trumps blood work (unless you are an alcoholic, anorexic, malnourished, have gastric infections, soy intolerance and/or dairy intolerance)
But pretty sure you're a new member of the Club! Welcome!
Doctors and Staff just need to read up on the newest research...or we can just inform them!

The word "disease" bothers me, too, so I say "I have celiac" and then explain a little more if necessary. I do have celiac disease and it took awhile before I could say it without cringing. Like Lisa I do not allow it to define me because there is so much more to me than that.
As I am asymptomatic, I have to keep reminding myself I truly do have it the odd time.
Oh yes, I agree with the "disease" part and I rather consider myself having a "disorder", but I have not analyzed that word too much. I would rather and have referred to it as as "pain in the ass".
When dining, I usually say I have a gluten intolerance. When I get that "deer in the headlights stare", I go for "wheat makes me really sick".
THEN my husband chimes in... "Well, you know that if she gets the smallest bit of gluten in her meal, she'll be dead before she makes it out the door." Should they freak out, I calmly explain with a smile....and it does gain their attention when they have little experience, nor salary to care.
...sometimes it works....sometimes a little humor will help. But we always make it better by nights end.
EDIT: Only on rare occasions did we do this and never at the expense of uninformed staff. I STRONGLY believe that you need to be a good steward for those that come behind you....

Great question! I was just wondering this myself. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac. I have been a smoker for many years and I have send many emails to certain cigarette company including my own brand... I will let everyone know the reply I receive.
Just a note here...This thread if over four years old. Information found her may not be current.
BUT, if cigarettes were a concern, the national organizations, foundations and research centers would have submitted warnings to the concerns of people with Celiac.
I smoked for over 30 years before and after diagnosis. AND have looked up the ingredients in most cigs....that's enough to make you quit!

I really dislike it when people say "I am Celiac". I am a PERSON with Celiac Disease. Celiac does not define me.

Well then, if you don't meet the criteria for the other issues that can cause intestinal atrophy, Celiac may be a true diagnosis.
As it's been mentioned many times, gluten sensitivity has a wide range. Having been gluten free for several years, it may take repeated and consistent gluten exposure for an unknown period of time, for you to achieve a reaction...perhaps by that time maybe some other issue may have jumped in your boat.
I also do not react to cross contamination or even full exposure. I continue to be gluten free, but feel fortunate that I am not severely sensitive as many are here.

How were you diagnosed?
There can be other causes for what would appear to be a positive biopsy.
From a Medscape article:
"Although villous atrophy is not exclusive of celiac disease, it is considered a crucial finding. Other causes of blunted villi include tropical sprue, malnutrition, intolerance to cow's milk, soy protein intolerance, and infectious gastroenteritis. However, most of these conditions can be readily excluded on the basis of clinical history and laboratory data."
Celiac Disease CAN and be a cumulative diagnosis through positive blood panel, biopsy/endoscopy exam and positive dietry results.

Do other (non gluten sensitive) people in your household use the jar of mayo, and double dip?....thus contaminating the mayo.

On a separate thread I saw mention of Cadbury eggs. I love these, but have resisted this year because I wasn't sure whether they are gluten free or not....I am so hoping they are. What about Peeps?
Peeps are all gluten free as are Cadbury mini eggs.

There is NO "celiac gene". DQ2 and DQ8 only indicate a predisposition to Celiac along with other issues. Only 20% of the people who carry this gene,will continue on to develop Celiac Disease.
Your testing may indicate that you may have a gluten intolerance or a gluten allergy (or both -
Enterolab does not, nor cannot, nor claim to diagnose for Celiac Disease.
If you feel better without gluten.....go with that. If you choose to continue testing, keep on a FULL gluten diet.
For all of us who have have digestive issues, I think it might be wise to have an endoscopy exam...if nothing but a base test.

Well, I for one can say it has helped some. But i'm still having issues, so maybe it will get better. After all I went from wanting no sex at all, willing to have it about once every 2 to 3 years to having it about once every 6 weeks.

If you have had dramatic dietary response on the diet, it's clear that you have a gluten intolerance. Whether or not you have Celiac...(your blood panel may indicate that) or a gluten allergy, both require an elimination of gluten.
You have been tested (awaiting results) and feel better eating without gluten. No need to be miserable for further testing.
BUT, you know it makes you ill when you eat it. Don't eat it and feel better.

Being diagnosed only a week, I would expect that most foods will be bothersome, with dairy in particular.
I would keep it simple until you heal a bit and your system settles. Stay away from processed foods. You can later give it a go and see how you feel.

Someone posted years ago that they use Pamela's Pancake Mix as the batter and then fried.

LOL....We have all been there! Sometimes your information is only as good as your customer service rep (and their ability to read a script).
What the third rep is telling you is that there are no gluten ingredients, but cannot verify a potential cross contact issues with their suppliers. Yeah... a CYA statement...in my opinion.
But, try another brand if you think you are having issues with this one.
