I was a art major in college. But I liked any kind of art better than I liked to write term papers...so I borrowed one....OOOPS!!!
One offspring got the talent gene. She is mostly self taught and proficient in oils, pastels and photography. She prefers her own company, rather than that of others. Other offspring got the social gene. She was talented enough to schedule one sleep over for Saturday night, the moment the Friday night sleep over left, with no down time in between.

Hi and Welcome!
During your doctors appointment, I would recommend that you request a FULL Celiac Panel. You may have Celiac as well as a gluten allergy.
-
It might be a good thing to contact the company directly and talk to some one with knowledge of their labeling and product information.
I believe there was a labeling issue/error, years ago....that was corrected. And, my memory is not certain it was Ore Ida.
-
And, not that it's related....but NO ONE is allowed in my bathroom while I'm brushing my teeth
-
Along with Celiac, many of us were diagnosed with Gastritis, Reflux caused by or because of a Hiatus Hernia. It's common. Both, as well as other ailments can attribute to some gagging.
I expect that too will fade away.
And oh! I forgot my manners..........WELCOME!

I have to post simply because I'm the third ESL teacher here so far. Is there some sort of connection between gluten and ESL that I'm unaware of?
Maybe sooo!

OOOh, here is a good one! Speaking of beans....
Empty two cans of Hanover Black Eyed Peas in a baking (8x8) dish.
Layer Chopped onions on the top
Layer mostly cooked bacon
Add Four Chicken Thighs and season with Garlic Salt and Pepper
Throw it in the oven until chicken is browned.
... so easy and delicious.
I usually double this and put it in a shallow roaster.

Hi and welcome!!!
If you have been gluten free for "several days", it should not mess up your result as long as it's done in a timely manner. Yes, the optimum for testing would be a full diet of gluten.
I would request a full Celiac Panel ( I will include that at the end of this post). As well, request a full Metabolic Panel, to check on any deficiencies you may have.
Some PCP do not have the knowledge to interpret the result of the tests they order, so please request the result, so you have it.

Serologic Tests
1. EMA (Immunoglobulin A anti-endomysium antibodies)
2. AGA (IgA anti-gliadin antibodies) Some people do not produce IgA antibodies.
3. DGP (Deamidated gliadin peptide antibody)
4. tTGA (IgA anti-tissue transglutaminase)

I live in the midwest (don't know if this makes a difference). There was just a commercial on TV (TNT) for Chex and it was all about how there were five flavors that were gluten free and it made it easier for the mom w/ a child who needed to be gluten free. I am so surprised/impressed/amazed.
I've noticed this on the east coast for several weeks now. It's so nice to hear and look up.
Hope the momentum will hold!

A quick dinner here is scrambled eggs/omelets , white rice and local sausage (or Johnsonville).

I was a chef at a restaurant that catered to folks with food intolerances for many years, very sick at the time and didn't know I was one of them myself.
I have 2 wonderful grown children, one is a RN who completed 2 Bachlor degrees by age 22 and the other is studying Electrical Engineering.
I have worked in the school system as a long term sub with special ed kids and as a one on one with a TBI student (my most rewarding job).
I am an artist who works with stained glass mosaics, paints and does jewelry as a hobby.
I am also recovering from agoraphobia and PTSD and have come a long way the last couple years. I just completed the college courses I started in the 90's and got my diplomas in the mail today.
I am hoping to find a job in Human Service soon. Meanwhile I do volunteer work at a local food pantry and thrift shop, which I love doing.
Well then!!!!! Here is something special for you!! Congratulations Raven.....
This song is sort of like college....ya gotta endure a lot just to get to the end. And the end is glorious!

Ok! Called out...
Worked on Capital Hill in my pre married years. Worked with all the cogs that keep a small town rollin' (especially historic preservation). And raised two semi-well adjusted daughters without a college debt!
And grandmother of the special one!
...my first, as you may know!

What do you do?
It's so fascinating who walks with us, but in so many different ways.
Without offering too much personal information, what do you do for a career, a passion, a volunteer, a home maker......

Yes, doing food diary too---I didn't think I'd have to be so cautious with the lotion. Waiting to hear back from Burts Bees on the lip balm but I think that's okay. We all eat gluten-free here - even though they don't have the problems but I just don't know! I'm gonna ditch the Rice Dream, I heard it has barley malt- very low - but that could be if I am super sensitive.
There is a NEW Sensitive Thread that has just started up. You might get some good suggestions over there.
-
Sorry that you are having a difficult time!
Have you considered keeping a food diary?
I don't want to be redundant, but have you checked you meds, shampoos, lotions....work place environment, shared kitchen equipment.......gluten can be a tricky opponent.

Prilosec is listed here as gluten free:

I would call the (800) # on the box or ask the pharm for the manufacturers contact information. I have never known it to contain gluten, but you might want to double check.
-
The good news is, you now know how to heal and become healthy again. Congratulations!!!!

I just talked to the pharmacist and asked if prescription Prilosec was gluten-free. It's not! No wonder I had problems! Prilosec is a PPI (not sure what that means but it's the type of medication) and there are NO gluten-free PPI's according to my pharmacist.
I'm glad that you made an effort to check out your meds. But this surprises me greatly. Need to investigate.

Hi,
I'm quite new to this. I'm 29 years old and I haven't yet been tested for food allergies (I finally go in two days). But, about a month ago, I started getting hives on my scalp, and then they progressed to all over my body. My PCP didn't see a trigger for it at first so I saw an allergist and a dermatologist. The first allergist wouldn't test me for food allergies despite my asking for it, stating that it wasn't presenting like a food allergy. The dermatologist said I needed to see someone because I definitely had hives, so she put me on Atarax and Zyrtec. The dermatologist ran blood work and found that I was anemic.
After that I started keeping a food diary. I found that on days when I ate anything that had wheat in it (Subway, Panera, Pasta), I'd break out in hives about an hour later and they would progressively get worse over the next 12 hours or so. The hives would finally stop getting worse at about 12-15 hours, and would die down completely in about 24 hours or so. Since then I've gone gluten-free, and when I don't eat it, I don't get hives. To test my wheat allergy theory though, I ate Subway after taking 3 antihistamines and broke out in a terrible case of hives and also had troubles breathing. It would appear that my allergy has gotten worse in a very short period of time.
The reason I'm posting though, is because since my last exposure to wheat in the form of distilled white vinegar in bbq sauce, (I had some ham bbq 2 days ago...I didn't know it had wheat in it) and broke out in mild hives after that I haven't had a normal bowel movement since. I felt nauseated all day yesterday and even this morning too. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing days after being exposed to gluten? I'm wondering if in addition to a wheat allergy, if I have celiacs.
Hi Kristen! And welcome!!!
I would suggest that you get a Celiac Blood Panel as soon as possible. It's recommended that you remain on a full gluten diet, for the optimum in accuracy in testing. You may have a wheat allergy in addition to Celiac. But, allergy testing will not tell you that you have Celiac Disease.

My oldest son lives in New Bern, NC and will be getting married in May 2011. I have been eating gluten-free for only a few weeks, so still learning. We will be going down this weekend to visit and will be traveling there a lot over the next few months. Can anyone tell me please where I can get good, healthy, gluten-free restaurant food. Thanks.
There is an Outback in New Bern. I have found that most restaurants in cities, are familiar with gluten free dining. Call ahead and talk to the manager.

I was recently diagnosed and am just trying to get my bearings and came across this site! I am so happy I could cry . . . I have so many questions, and yet feel I'm so 'green' I'm not even sure what questions I should be asking. Short of a diagnsis - of which I basically handed to the doctors after years of being sick, at times quite seriously - the doctors haven't been much help at all. So I have become an internet junkie! SO happy to have "found" you!
WELCOME!!!
No matter where you have been, there is someone here that has walked in your shoes.
So glad you have joined us.

Mom and Dad...how about you?
Here is the panel your doctor should test for"
tTG-IgA or tissue transglutaminase-IgA
AGA-IgG or Antigliadin IgG
AGA-IgA or Antigliadin IGA
Total IGA
The presence of tTG antibodies is highly suggestive of celiac disease, while AGA can be elevated also in cases of wheat allergy.

Ah Hah......my hypothetical theory! Searing, yes...I like that word.
Cloth Napkins

Agreed. You might want to consider paper napkins or paper towels. Washed cloth napkins should not be an issue.
