ARCHIVED La Choy
Lisa replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that the teriyaki is gluten free, but I don't know about the Ginger teriyaki. -
mamabear, What great information! Sometimes, I think that we get a bit intimidated by doctors suggestions (well, most doctors ) for the quick RX, that the common sense decisions get lost, as you stated. I think I will stick with the walking and diet for a while. Thanks mamabear for your common sense. Much appreciated.

ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Problems With Maybelline Eyeliner?

ARCHIVED Low Positive?
Lisa replied to bbopper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Beth, If you are going to pursue testing, do not have him begin the gluten free diet. Your GI should suggest and endoscopy exam, that will look into the small intestines (area effected by Celiac Disease) to see if there is any damage and take multiple biopsies. A biopsy can confirm Celiac, but it is not 100% reliable as the biopsy can be hit or miss.... -

Hey Lollie, Good to hear from you again. New Bern is a beautiful town. You will love it there. I live about a hour and half up the coast from there. I am planning to start a support group here very soon. You really aren't very far away. PM me if you would like a list of NC contacts.

Yup, red wine is especially good for the cholesterol, but the trade off is that my liver is not a happy camper with alcohol which, in my case, raises my cholesterol to an unhealthy level. Kind of a catch 22, huh? The statins were prescribed not so much for today, but for years down the road when I may have heart issues.

ARCHIVED Using Enzymes To Distinguish celiac disease From Gs?
Lisa replied to Cinnamon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, You will find no better experts on celiac than here. Please read as much as you can from this site. There is no enzyme pill that will "cure" celiac or break down the offending gluten. Only a true gluten free diet will work for celiac and it's symptoms. Please don't fall for a gimick. The real facts are right here on celiac.com. It... -
Can you stop statins immediately, or do you have to ween off as in SSI's? I'm ready to do it asap. I stopped smoking and I stopped drinking in August. I ride a bike 5 miles a day (most days) and walk a mile. All for better health. And to feel so awful on this drug?

Thanks Ursa. I also found it curious that studies show that statins offer no benefit for the prevention of plaque in the heart, which is what my brother is experiencing currently, who is eight years older than I. My father passed away at 62 from his second heart attack. That and my 250 cholesterol is the reason he put me on statins. I don't think...

Welcome! You start simple, by what we call the Naked Diet. Simple meats, seafood, fresh veggies, rice, potatoes, fresh fruit, with as little seasoning other than salt and pepper. Don't panic, this is just in the beginning of the diet. Keep it simple until you know what foods to expand upon. All of Mrs. Dash's spices are gluten free. Here is a list... -

Hello Everyone, My doctor, due to family history and high cholesterol, has put me on a generic statin. I have developed some muscle strain and cramping, that I attributed to increased exercise. Although, this muscle strain and weakness never resolves with rest or continued exercise. I have always felt rather agile and now, after sitting in a chair,...

ARCHIVED Magners?
Lisa replied to mak07's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not familiar with that particular drink. All distilled alcohols are considered safe, due to the fact that the distillation process is said to remove the offending gluten. If flavors are added after the distillation, it MAY not be considered safe. -
Jess, Just wanted to add that in my experience, potatoes do no freeze very well. They tend to become grainy after frozen. When I make soup or stews to freeze, I hold out the potatoes and add them when I thaw and re-heat.
-
And don't forget to label what it is. I can't tell you the times that I thawed out spaghetti sauce and ended up having chilli for dinner.

ARCHIVED Link To gluten-free Mainstream Food List?
Lisa replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Due to the ever changing ingredients in products, gluten-free lists have a short shelf life. Here is a list of companies that will list gluten (wheat, rye, barley and malt) clearly. The key to gluten free shopping is learning to read ingredients. It's tough in the beginning, but once you learn you can shop with ease and confidence. Open Original... -

Lisa replied to frec's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A GI repair suppliment sounds like SNAKE OIL to me. I hope your health did not pay too much for it. I think you need to find a new GI as well as a new Naturopath Dr.
