  1. You could have a hiatal hernia. It is common with people that have digestive issues. That should have been evident if you had an endoscopy exam. Chocolate give me gerd as do onions.
  2. I wish that half of the people in my life, could touch me as deeply as the animals that I have loved. I guess it's that "unconditional" thing. I have known your feelings. As time progresses, those endearing feelings will go to a special place, and remain there, always.
  3. I don't get up to the northern end of the beach often, but I know there is a large Food Lion Grocery Store in Duck and Corolla. Food Lion has an extensive gluten free section in Duck, Corolla and in Southern Shores. Finding the staples should not be problem. The beach is at it's best in September and October. Enjoy.

    ARCHIVED Thank You

Welcome! I am assuming your meant "gluten" free diet. Keep hydrated, that will help. Hope you feel better and there is lots to learn here.
  5. Modified Food Starch, in the US, is almost ALWAYS derived from corn. If, it is derived from wheat, it must be listed by law as "Modified Food Starch (wheat)".
  6. New Release by Dr. Ron Hoggan: Open Original Shared Link Cereal Killers: Celiac Disease and Gluten-Free A to Z is the most diverse discussion of gluten sensitivity and celiac disease currently available in a single volume. Cereal Killers explores a wide range of sometimes contradictory perspectives on the various disease processes incited by gluten. These...
  7. When ill with full Celiac symptoms, you body is in starvation mode, trying to grab whatever it can. When you recover, it takes some time for your body to readjust.
  8. Many gluten free processed foods are high in calories. It's always best to correct your diet naturally. Increase your fiber in salads, fruits, grains and beans. Cleanses can be dangerous for those of us with a compromised digestive system.
  9. For shopping there is a fairly good health food store, directly next to the Outer Banks Bread Company in Kitty Hawk. Farm Fresh has gluten free foods, but not in a specific section. You should be able to find breads, pasta and cereals. High Cotton, at mile post one, has super ribs, brisket and BBQ chicken and are knowledgeable about gluten free service...
  10. If your pots and pans are in fairly good condition and not scratched, a good washing should remove the gluten. I would invest in a toaster that is exclusive to only gluten free breads. They are fairly inexpensive.

    ARCHIVED Coffee

Coffee should not contain gluten. Some flavored ones, I understand, may (although it may not be common). If you're having problems with plain coffee, it may be too harsh on a compromised digestive system. Cream in your coffee may also give you some issues, until you have had time to heal.
  12. Try to Google "Myrtle Beach - gluten free restaurants" ....you'd be surprised what you will find. Enjoy your stay.
  13. Yummy! On my list of good things to try this summer.
  14. Just a side note here, this thread originated in 2006. The information may not be current.
  15. Hi Psillies! Just sliddin' in here. Did Janut post her OBX picture here, has she had second thoughts (common sense thoughts), or did I miss it.
  16. Sounds like you girls are experimenting. Everyone reacts differently. What you might not react, your friends might react terribly too. Nothing is exact, when you are dealing with Celiac. The variations can come from time healed, time exposed, extend of damage, how strict you are and many times there are secondary intolerances which may come into play...
  17. Open Original Shared Link Yeast All brand-name packaged yeasts sold in the US are gluten free. Autolyzed yeast in a food product is generally considered gluten free. Brewers' yeast, when it's a by-product of beer, is not considered gluten free. Brewers yeast nutritional supplements, however, can be made from either brewer's yeast or sugar. If made...
  18. Is it possible that autolyzed yeast extract, is so processed that the offending gluten is removed. I will research and post what I find.
  19. Kraft will clearly list all forms of gluten. Maltodextrine does not contain gluten. Kool Aid is cool
  20. Try Loveys too, across from MayFair. They have more gluten free items than I have ever seen and great lunches. Open Original Shared Link
  21. EXACTLY, Lizzard!!!!! What razor do you use.
  22. Random Question: Does anyone get an allergic reaction from using the razors? Perhaps the soap band/ or moisture strip on the razor?
