  1. Ty doesn't have a bento box, but so far this year he's taken a beef/veg stir fry everyday in his thermos. I marinate the beef and then stir fry it up with broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and stir fry the rice in as well. Add a bit of VH "lite" soy sauce and that's it. I make a giant batch and then freeze it in sandwich size zip bags. One zip bag is good...
  2. Brief hijack... That's from Open Original Shared Link Meanwhile, shimo, sorry to hear about your insensitive ex-girlfriend. I'm sure that when you meet the right girl, you'll know because she will be understanding, willing to learn about celiac and careful about your diet.
  3. I do know that the protein in oats is very similar to gluten, but that oats don't actually contain gluten. I know that commercial brands like Quaker are not recommended because they are grown/transported/processed with gluten containing grains. I know that some celiacs have no problem consuming small quantities of certifed gluten-free oats and that others...
  4. If there's a Celiac Association in Lubbock, contact the society. People there can help.
  5. Here's the link for the page Mamaw is talking about. I found it by mistake last weekend. We haven't tried them yet. Open Original Shared Link
  6. The fries are not on Wendy's Canadian gluten-free list. Open Original Shared Link
  7. I voted for Ty. Looking at the palm of his hand, they both are pretty much even with the joint on the ring finger. He has celiac. I don't have celiac and mine are both pretty much even or slightly above the joint.
  8. Did he throw it in Nick's face and start a fight?
  9. I made the following recipe the other day. Both kids love them. My older son (NGF) has been bugging me to make oatmeal cookies, but I made them gluten-free so I wouldn't have all-purpose flour floating around the kitchen. Gramma's Dad's Cookies 2 cups white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 cups margarine 2 eggs 2 cups coconut 2 1/2 cups oatmeal...
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. My kids were born Oct. 29 and Nov. 1. I put them both in kindergarten when they were not yet 5, but they turned 5 approximately 6 weeks after school started. I considered both my boys "watchers" not "joiners". That is to say they had to lurk around the edges to see what was going on before they considered joining in. My younger son is shyer, but thrived at...
  12. If your library has a copy of Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids by Sheri L. Sanderson, borrow it. There is a really good recipe for Honey Graham crackers (not sure of the exact recipe title). They are really good. The dough is actually easy to work with. I'm going to use this recipe from now on. I had been using a graham cracker recipe from The...
  13. My son has been gluten free for just over two years (since August 2005). He has/had no symptoms other than anemia, which I can't check, so it is entirely possible that either we are: 1. doing a fabulous job and he's never been glutened, or 2. we're doing a crappy job and he's been glutened daily from cc. Who knows? I realize this doesn't help your poll at...
  14. Congratulations! Wasn't her c-section scheduled for 2? I guess she got to do VBAC then?
  15. Can you get Hawkins Cheezies in the states? They are gluten-free and made in a gluten-free factory.
  16. Congratulations Stef!
  17. Thanks Grant. I knew the " " trick, but not the + - trick. I had always been doing searchs from the search window on this site, because usually I was on the site at the time. I guess now I'll have to open another window and do a separate search from off site.
  18. Never heard of it. We had a Celiac Kids picnic last weekend and the lady from the association didn't mention it. There had been a restaurant in SW Calgary that was mostly if not all gluten free, but it shut down after about 6 months.
  19. Friday, for the first time ever, I saw an ingredient list that read: glucose/fructose (derived from wheat or corn), blah, blah, the rest of the ingredients. I'd never seen that before, and it was on something I'd heard was a safe product.
  20. Why is the search engine limited to 4 letters or more? It's really getting on my nerves. In the past few weeks I've needed to search for: egg rolls, Bull's Eye barbecue sauce and recipes for ham and instead of getting results back I have to weed through thousands of posts or abandon my search. Usually I abandon the search.
  21. Atta boy! I'll bet she doesn't bother to respond, but your response to her e-mail was terrific.
  22. "Canada Corn Starch" in a pale yellow box, with a blue banner and a rooster on it is gluten-free. It is manufactured (in the states, I think) by ACH and says gluten-free right on it.
  23. I got to go to Torino Feb. 2-15, 2006 (and watched Canada's women's hockey team slaughter the Russians 12-0. Woo! But I digress ). I saw the Shroud of Turin and the accompanying museum. Very interesting. I took a day trip to Milano to see "The Last Supper". It was amazing to see in real life. If you go, be sure to make an appointment. You can only make...
  24. I had a few ideas until I read no dairy. What about going to your public health office or dietician and asking for an sheet on how to gain weight in a healthy manner. We got one when Ty was diagnosed, but I do believe most of it was adding skim milk powder to milk and stuff like that. Here are I couple of things I found while surfing. Of course they'll need...
