  1. I have never seen butter that contains gluten. It should just be cream (milk) and salt. Always read the label.
  2. If the gluten-free diet Does not work (give it six months, in my opinion), please continue to advocate for your health! I could have sworn that my niece had celiac disease, but they found Crohn's when they did a pill cam. She did NOT present with normal Crohn's symptoms either.
  3. And...I am one of those who test negative on the common screening test for celiac disease: TTG IGA! ?
  4. This is interesting. I sent an email asking the Celiac Disease Foundation about gluten-free Cherrios which they endorse/support, but the Canadian Celiac Disease Organization and the Gluten Free Watchdog do not? What do you all think? Their response to me: Aside from the initial contamination in Cheerios when they were first put...
  5. I have to say that is is possible that you were glutened by this product. ANYTHING is possible. With any processed food, there is a risk of contamination, be it gluten, bacteria, etc. Just look at all the food recalls (thanks to the manufacturers who step up to the plate when they have made a mistake!). However, we love the convience of prepared foods...
  6. You could have celiac disease, but there are many things (like SIBO) that can cause trapped gas.
  7. Yes it can! Remember, this is not an allergy! This is an autoimmune disorder, like lupus, multiple sclerosis, that is triggered by gluten. Who knows what triggers other autoimmune disorders? We are fortunate that we know the trigger for celiac disease -- gluten. Back to your question. Really, the damage depends on the individual. We all react...
  8. Why take a advice from strangers on the internet (though it is excellent advice and correct)? Here is what the experts say: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  9. I have a formal diagnosis (3 years). I am glad that I know for sure, but my hubby does not have a formal diagnosis. He went gluten free 15 years ago per the poor advice of my allergist and his GP. Well, it worked. Took a year for him to master the diet, but he knows and I know that gluten makes him sick. Will he do a challenge? Heck no! He will say...
  10. I am sorry that you were glutened. I checked the Golden Corral website. They do say that they can not really accommodate those with allergies. My advice? Never eat out at a buffet. Select only those restaurants that have been reviewed by a celiac (you can use a reliable source like "Find Me Gluten Free" and read the reviews insuring a celiac wrote it...
  11. If your daughter has lactose intolerance, it should hit fast (as the stomach empties) and resolve quickly (day o two) unlike a glutening which can last for days, weeks or months. It can take months or years to recover from celiac disease. Why? The learning curve is steep for the gluten free diet. As rookies, you and your daughter are going to make mistakes...
  12. No. I have not tried this product. I do find that I rarely buy TJ products anymore, because they do not disclose their manufacturers. I stick with name brands that I can contact via email or phone. Consider a cheap small electric rice cooker. It just takes 20 minutes. I plug it in on the patio on hot days when I am grilling outside for the same...
  13. Think about when you have the flu. What did your mom give you? The old brat diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) or chicken soup, bone broth? Why? These foods are normally easy to digest after some intestinal illness. Your daughter has celiac disease, so skip the toast. But choose foods that are whole and easy to digest -- at least until her...
  14. I would start your daughter on dairy. Start with items that have the least amount of lactose like hard cheeses and yogurt. Then step up to soft cheeses, milk or ice cream (my fav is Breyer's since they have a gluten free line). You can even try lactose free milk. Many celiacs can be lactose intolerant due to damaged villi which may resolve with...
  15. It means that the DGP IGG test for celiac disease is negative. But you only need one positive on the celiac panel for a GI to order an endoscopy. I guess your doctor was just looking for celiac disease. Some doctors are using the DGP to measure other illnesses related to the brain: ADHD, Autism, schizphrenia, cerebral palsy (Green, Peter, MD., Gluten...
  16. The lab seems legit, and my doctor has used Quest Labs. I would not worry about EnterpriseGuru's posting. He did not ever come back to respond to my questions. Perhaps, the issue had nothing to do with celiac disease. Anyway, the other test? There is some dispute about the accuracy of allergy testing for foods via blood. If you have the cash, go for...
  17. If you mean celiac antibody testing after a glutening, yes! Did the hospital think to retest for celiac antibodies to perhaps exclude a glutening? My GI tested me after a suspected glutening (not sure what even glutened me ?.) My symptoms suggested SIBO, since they were so different from when I was diagnosed (no intestinal issues, but anemia). My antibodies...
  18. Well, you already know that it says "positive". That means you have a chance (very good) for having celiac disease. The next step is to get a Gastroentrologist referral for an endoscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete as all the celiacs test (ALL) require you to be consuming gluten daily for accurate results...
  19. Tried to resolve these issues at my end, but this is only occurring on celiac.com. Help! It is driving me nuts!
  20. You have a positive on the panel and that normally should be enough for a GI referral. Not everyone gets a positive TTG. I tested positive only on the DGP IGA and yet my biopsies via endoscopy revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB. I do not have DH. Even on follow-up testing, my TTG is always negative (at least all the times I have had it done). I hope you...
  21. Consider using our forum private message feature to protect privacy....just in case you all did not know ? !
  22. Oh, I would suggest providing gluten-free goodies (e.g. Candy) or even a frozen cupcake (kept in the teacher's freezer) in the event of a party. My daughter's classmate is severely allergic to peanuts. Her mom did that and Abby was never left out! ?
  23. I can not help you with the the 504 plan, but I do know that I would do it. My daughter is 15 and so far has tested negative for celiac disease, but in the event she does test positive, she will need a 504 plan to help keep her safe. I am sure other parents will chime in. This topic has come up repeatedly. Until then, try a search with the forum. Lots...
  24. Nice to have made progress! ?
