  1. You are not over-thinking this! I am the same way. I wash my hands a lot! I make everyone wash their hands when we return home. Humm...we do not get sick often either.......I care about getting glutened far more than picking up germs. Anxiety is so common with those who have celiac disease. It can be a direct result of the disease itself or acquired...
  2. I am so glad that she is feeling better. Non-celiac gluten intolerance is real. Researchers like Dr. Fasano are acknowledging it and will hopefully create a method of testing for it. Glad you ruled out celiac disease! Thank you for reporting her progress. You will help so many others with comparable issues!
  3. Here is a list of other causes for VA: Open Original Shared Link this is critical....keep eating gluten daily until all testing is complete!
  4. I fractured some vertabrae doing NOTHING two months after my celiac disease diagnosis in 2013. Yep, osteoporosis. I was devastated. Did gentle walking and gave myself time to heal. Needed the time anyway because I was anemic. I did get better though. I ride my bike 40 miles on Saturdays. I teach a few exercise classes, run 3.5 miles on the trail...
  5. The only positive found on my celiac panel was the DGP IGA. The rest were negative. I test this way even in follow-up annual tests. I do not have an IGA deficiency. In fact, the opposite -- my result was high and out of the standard range indicating a possible infection...but nothing to worry about. My celiac disease diagnosis was confirmed via biopsy...
  6. Congratulations! I am excited for you. You are right, being nauseous is normal and based on a recent study released this week, it is a good thing. You and Kate Middleton have something in common. Hopefully, it will dissipate soon. I have no specific advice. I was pregnant befor my Dx. I can say that after my pregnancy ended, I never ate a...
  7. Why not ask for the complete celiac panel? The TTG test is a good screening test (catches most celiacs and is cheaper), but it does not catch all celiacs (like me!). Open Original Shared Link -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA (you were negative on this one). and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and ...
  8. I think you may have your answer. You could have had elevated antibodies. I only tested positive on the DGP IGA, so now my GI only orders it (instead of the entire panel) to save money and because he knows the rest will come out negative (had the celiac antibodies test several times now since my dx -- biopsies: Marsh Stage IIIB). When I was diagnosed...
  9. Dumb question. When was the last time you were tested for celiac antibodies? celiac disease symptoms can wax and wane. Maybe this is all due to some hidden gluten exposure?
  10. Stacy, When was the last time a doctor touched your neck and physically checked your thyroid for enlargement (that would prompt an ultrasound for sure)? Also, like celiac disease antibodies, you can develop thyroid antibodies at anytime. With a celiac disease diagnosis, those should be checked occassionally. Not sure when you last had those tested...
  11. My kid is gluten free at home (she does not have celiac disease). That is because we have two gluten-free eaters in the house against one gluten eater. Dad and Mom win! I do pack her some gluten things in her lunch and she eats gluten outside of the house. But unless she was diagnosed with celiac disease, I would not expect, nor would I have a legal right...
  12. Your doctor is woefully mis-informed. It only takes only one positive out of the complete celiac panel to warrant a referral to a GI doctor. You doctor is not following celiac disease diagnostic protocol. Open Original Shared Link here is more about testing and diagnosing celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link Because you are gluten...
  13. Seems like you are on the fence. Here is my story. I was anemic my whole life. Finally, during routine GI consult, he suggested celiac disease. I was shocked. No way! I had no tummy issues. My hubby had been gluten free for 12 years based on what we know was rather poor advice from my allergist and his GP (worked, but we do not know for sure...
  14. Most celiacs will test positive on the IGA test versions over the IGG unless they are IGA deficient. But some celiacs do not test this typical way. You have two choices 1) get a second or third opinion or 2) keep her on a gluten diet and retest in six months or a year. You can not rely on just a positive DGP IGA alone for a diagnosis. A biopsy can do...
  15. Hi! Leaky gut is real! Read this about Zonulin discovered by Dr. Fasano and his team (one of the leading celiac researchers): Open Original Shared Link And if you have time watch a video he is in: Glad to hear a success story!
  16. No problem. It is hard to "read between the lines" or many posters leave out critical information. To be honest, some days I am too much in a hurry, but I want to help someone who may desperately need a response and my answer is wrong or not clear (thank you, brain fog!). But.....my fellow members always have my back. A nutritionist is an excellent...
  17. Welcome! It could be celiac disease. Was that the GI report? Did you receive the report from the pathologist? Did you have the celiac disease blood tests?
  18. Hang in there! Count your blessings. Do something you like to do and relax. I know that is hard to do as a young mother (as I sit here in the kitchen sipping coffee quietly as my teenager is sleeping in after a late football game last night where she marched in 90 degree plus weather in full uniform). But seriously, take a few minutes to relax!
  19. Sorry, but this product (supplement) is not even certified gluten free. Seems odd that a product geared to Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance would not take the extra step of getting certified. I guess I am a Nervous Nellie, especially after the reports that several probiotics were contaminated with gluten. Open Original Shared Link
  20. I am sorry that you are so stressed! But think about it. Even if you should receive a Crohn's diagnosis, you just going to deal with it. Chances are, with a celiac family history like yours, it is more likely to be celiac disease. Try not to worry. Think of the positive, you could be catching a relatively early diagnosis. Perhaps, you can help your...
  21. If you want to drive, try Good Grubs Subs in Alpharetta. They have a celiac in the family and are all set up for celiacs. They have over 50 reviews and are 100% approved by celiacs on Find Me Gluten Free. It's just sandwiches, but so nice to order and NEVER worry! Thanks for the other recommendations.
  22. Are you vegan or vegetarian? I am concerned about your lack of protein and fats in your diet. These diets can work when you are also gluten free, but as a celiac you can be malnourished. It is hard to heal when you are slowly starving yourself. No offense, but some newly diagnosed celiacs end up with food disorders. Perhaps working with a dietician...
  23. I admit, my blood panel was "mildly positive" with only the DPG IGA being the positive, yet I had a Marsh Stage IIIB (pathologist report) though my visual on the endoscopy was fine. celiac disease can be hard to diagnose, that is for sure.
  24. At the very least, get the GI consult and rest of the celiac panel. Then armed with those results, discuss with your GI. Together, you can decide whether or not you should to obtain intestinal biopsies.
  25. Sorry. Something is wonky with either my connection or celiac.com! Your results are not specific...borderline. That is why your PCP should refer you to a GI for further celiac blood tests and a possible endoscopy. I recognize the lab report form. Kaiser? If so, a PCP can not order a full celiac panel. Only a GI can do so. Why bother? Because...
