  1. I have been on a Low Carb, High Fat diet for over two years, but I have diabetes and I never have been overweight. I eat enough carbs to keep my meter happy! i also have celiac disease. Let's face it, no one really should be eating cookies, cakes, tons of bread, chips, soda, jiuce, etc. On a regular basis. There must be a reason the General population...
  2. I do not worry about makeup except for lipstick. I purchase Gabriel lipstick, which is certified gluten-free. I can buy it at my local Sprouts Market (cheaper version of Whole Foods). Red Apple Lipstick is certfied too, but I like being able to see the actual lipstick at the store. I have used the same color daily for more than 20 years -- if it's not...
  3. I use the lotion, but the facial sunscreen contains gluten now or at least they did at the beginning of the summer. Why they added it (probably sourced it out), I do not know. Check the labels as they can change ingrediants. The company statement is their way of protecting themselves. I try to not eat lotion, like Karen said, but I am careful about sunscreen...
  4. I am so glad for you!
  5. I did come across harsh and that was not my intent. It sounds like your doctor may be mis-informed about celiac disease and allergies. I am baffled as to why your daughter is consuming wheat when she was diagnosed with a wheat and shellfish allergy. With each exposure, an allergy can become severe and even progress to death. I would not mess around with...
  6. Okay, I know I sounded harsh and for that I apologise. ?. I hate to see kids suffer and I am pretty sure you feel the same way or you would not be here for help! It only takes one positive on a celiac panel for a doctor to refer a patient to a GI for further evaluation. Open Original Shared Link To answer your question, yes, the symptoms...
  7. Welcome! Your doctor Seems to be woefully mis-informed. You should have been referred to a Gi for an endoscopy to confirm celiac disease. Sorry, to be harsh...but it is true (at least based in what you have written). Celiac Disease is not an allergy. Antibodies can rise fast or slow. You can improve and even cheat and be symptom free, but...
  8. No, here is no way to test for celiac disease without being on a Daily diet (8 to 12 weeks for the blood panel) filled with gluten. I understand where you are at. My hubby is not officially diagnosed. He has been gluten-free for 15 years and there is no way he will do a challenge. He will say that I have received way more support with my official diagnosis...
  9. Sorry, that you are ill. Are these certified gluten free supplements?
  10. Ooooo, I am going to make these cakes (after I get over my pumpkin craving!). My hubby would love them (he can not eat chocolate, poor guy). I love your ideas! I think we (our society) emphasize food too much. It is all about the company we keep!
  11. Yes. When I was diagnosed, anemia was my only known symptom caused by malabsporption. I was shocked when my GI suggested testing me for celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link
  12. Going gluten free in theory should not make anything worse. Maybe, you have an intolerance to those other grains. Who knows? (I am not a doctor.). Best to wait for the results of the celiac blood tests, but keep in mind that a celiac disease diagnosis usually involves an endoscopy (intestinal biopsies) that requires you to be consuming gluten daily.
  13. I am sorry that you are ill! First, did they take biopsies to see if you have healed from celiac disease? Symptoms for celiac disease can change. Second, did they rule out other AI issues, like Crohn's? My niece was scoped from both ends. All kinds of tests. All negative. A pill cam finally caught her Crohn's (she also did not present with typical...
  14. I personally would not trust my doctor to know if a drug is gluten free. I can not find it on this reliable website (a pharmacist maintains it for celiacs) but maybe you can. http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/list.htm I would call the manufacturer directly. Any amount of gluten could cause an autoiummuine flare-up. Each person is different as...
  15. It could be a celiac symptom, side effect from a medication, or another AI issue. I am not a doctor, but I have never seen anything in my research that blames a gluten-free diet for a dry mouth. Honestly, you should avoid the processed junk food if you are trying to heal from celiac disease, at least for a few months or until symptoms cease or subside...
  16. I could have sworn that my 19 year old niece had celiac disease, but she tested negative. Doctors didn't know what she had (two different GI's). Her symptoms were sporadic. Finally, her new GI ordered a pill cam. She was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Not saying that your daughter has Crohn's but we were all sure she had celiac disease. Just couldn...
  17. The intestines can be damaged rather quickly if you have celiac disease, but it takes time for antibodies to build and circulate in the blood. Your blood result? Most people never have a 0. You need to go above the range (in your case a "10").
  18. Two weeks (experts say 2 to 4 weeks) on a gluten challenge can be enough to obtain tissue samples (biopsy) through an endoscopic procedure. I am sorry that your doctor is not knowledgeable about celiac disease. Karen is right that it's about 12 weeks for the blood tests.
  19. GFinDC said it well! I just want to emphasize that you only need one positive on the celiac panel. I also was just positive on the DGP, yet my biopsies revealed moderate to severe damage (my visual on my endoscopy was normal, it was the biopsy that revealed the intestinal damage). I hope you are able to save your GB. Mine was removed 10 years ago...
  20. The restaurant cards are terrific, but I have only used them when traveling internationally. That's when I a willing to risk getting glutened. However, while at home, I prefer talking to the head chef (nice restaurant) or choosing a restaurant that has been reviewed by celiacs (not just gluten free groupies). Every time you eat out it is a risk. Each...
  21. Pretty interesting and I'd like to hear from other members too, but how are you feeling? How are your follow-up antibody tests?
  22. So, why didn't they run the full celiac panel? Studies have shown that smaller kids can often test positive to the DGP tests vs. the TTG (Google it because I've got to get my kid off to school in a few minutes! ) Not to mention, that I test (even in follow-up tests) negative to the TTG tests, yet my biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB which is moderate...
  23. The University of Chicago (very conservative estimate) recommends 1 to 2 slices of bread per day (or equivalent) for 8 to 12 weeks for the blood tests and 2 to 4 weeks for the biopsy. It can take a lot of time to build up antibodies that are measurable in the blood. If you were on the gluten-free diet for around a week you should be okay. Dr. Fasano mentioned...
  24. Only you can decide what is best for you. I got my official diagnosis 12 years after my own husband went gluten free based on what we know now as poor advice from my allergist and his GP. They were right, he did and still has an issue with gluten. AI issues run rampant on both sides of our families. But does he really have it? We'll never know because...
  25. Oh, there really isn't such a thing as a gluten allergy. Nope. Google it. There is an allergy to wheat though. And you can do the research, but allergy testing is not super accurate -- especially the blood tests. Did you do any skin testing? So, this tells me that your doctor may be clueless. So many are and I am not being disrespectful. My own PCP...
