Frankly, this is a conversation you should be having with your doctor. I wish you well. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer replacement
cyclinglady replied to finlayson's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You are looking for carbonation and /or flavor. Soda water will do the trick. The bubbles will help the waffles rise. Need more sugar? try soda as the others suggested. I like using a yeast base for my waffles. -
ARCHIVED I need a Dr. for my Gluten Sensitive 7 year old in Norman, Oklahoma
cyclinglady replied to Katharine's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Welcome! Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a gluten allergy. You can be allergic to wheat, but not to gluten. Celiac Disease is an autoiummuine disease that happens to trigger "flare-up" when exposed to gluten (attacks the small intestine). To get tested you have to be consuming gluten daily for a period of 8 to 12 weeks (blood tests). Non-celiac... -
ARCHIVED My daughters 2nd test results
cyclinglady replied to MelissaNZ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ranges can vary between labs, so to be safe, I'm going to say that because the EMA is positive, it's a positive. You just need one on the panel to go forward with a GI consult. -
ARCHIVED Jarro-dophilus EPS Probiotic Contains Gluten
cyclinglady posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I belong to Gluten Free Watch Dog, which is like a mini Consumer Reports (an independent group that tests products and I belong to both). Believe me, this is worth the $5.00 per month or so subscription and I highly recommend supporting their efforts in keeping celiacs safe. What? Pay for it? Come on....how many of you subscribe to magazines without...-

ARCHIVED Learning about hypersensitivity
cyclinglady replied to acappella2's topic in Super Sensitive People
Well, you might not be hypersensitive (I can not really speak to that issue), but it is safe to say that many celiacs think they are diet adherent, but really are not. Studies show that some celiacs never heal: Open Original Shared Link Some refuse (my doctor has two of them) to go gluten free and prefer to suffer. Some make poor food choices...- 2 replies

ARCHIVED Question about tests and endoscopes.
cyclinglady replied to KristyD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Well, you might not have all the results in yet. Normally, doctors have been using the TTG tests to screen for celiac disease (to save money), but it looks like your doctor ordered the Anti-gliadin tests instead.. He should have run an IgA deficiency test just to see if the Anti-gliadin IgA test is valid. Do you think those are the only... -
ARCHIVED Help understanding test results
cyclinglady replied to Nkoldewey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I am sorry that you have been so ill. The first set of tests are positive for celiac disease. Normally, the next step is to confirm via biopsy/endoscopy to access for villi damage. Are you under a Gastroentrologist's care? I ask because the second test Reticulin is very very old and no longer used to test for celiac disease. I hope you... -
ARCHIVED No Relief: 4.5 Years and counting..
cyclinglady replied to Alok's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just because you are IgA deficient, does not automatically give you a diagnosis of celiac disease. It is just that if you are IgA deficient, you need different versions of the celiac disease blood tests. I eat eggs daily and do not have any issues, but each of us seem to have various food intolerances with dairy being the most common. I am... -
When were you diagnosed? Have you been on a gluten free diet (beside being tube fed)? Do you have other issues besides celiac disease? I am so sorry that you are so ill. I am assuming what you are consuming is certified gluten free? I guess I am asking so many questions, because I have not see a question like yours come up since I have been a member...

ARCHIVED Celiac and Crohn's connected?
cyclinglady replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome! I haven't read about a strong link for celiac disease and Crohn's (unlike Hashimoto's or Type 1 Diabetes). However, they are both autoimmune disorders and many members have two, three, four or more AI issues. I am sorry that you are dealing with this new issue. My niece was just diagnosed with Crohn's this week. I was sure she had celiac... -

ARCHIVED shampoo
cyclinglady replied to razzle5150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten has to be swallowed in order to set off a reaction in a celiac. In my case, I am careful to purchase gluten-free shampoo, conditioner, facial sunscreen, soap, lipstick, hand lotion -- anything that might accidentally get into my mouth. I do not have a wheat allergy. In addition to celiac disease (or not), some folks have a wheat allergy. ... -
ARCHIVED Is what I'm experiencing "normal"? Help!
cyclinglady replied to lolobaggins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the club that you never wanted to join! (I plagiarized that from someone else here but can't recall who so I can't give credit to them.) Anyway, there is a steep learning curve to being gluten free. It takes time to learn to read labels. It takes time to heal (like months to YEARS). Symptoms can wax or wane. You just have to keep moving... -

"Accidentally marked them soy free". Are you kidding? That's fraud! Consumer Reports just issued a huge report this month on supplements. Yes, everyone thinks they are all "natural" and therefore safe. Doctors and nurses recommend them all the time, but they can do a lot of damage. Anyone can start making them in their bathroom and there's literally...- 8 replies

ARCHIVED Any help at all would be amazing, I'm desperate! :)
cyclinglady replied to Sarah.e.may9602's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Sara! It sounds like you may not have had the complete celiac blood panel. It sounds like your doctor is woefully mis-informed! Why bother testing when you have been gluten free? Can he not read Dr. Google? (My neighbor is an ER doctor and he consults with a medical version of "Dr. Google" at times because doctors are supposed to know how... -
ARCHIVED Should I get tested? Advice please.
cyclinglady replied to schlafentzug's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! You can start by asking for a celiac blood panel. The catch is that you have to eat gluten daily for any of the celiac tests to work (including an endoscopy/biopsies). So, do not give up gluten until you rule out celiac disease! Here's more information: Open Original Shared Link Have other illnesses like Crohn's, stomach ulcers... -

ARCHIVED Potential Celiac Diagnosis?
cyclinglady replied to jen4az's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many things can damage the small intestine besides celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link Happily, I can share that I became a Great-Aunt this week for the first time to a charming little boy. Sadly, my lovely 19 year old niece was diagnosed yesterday with Crohn's. She had so many symptoms of celiac disease, I was sure she had it. Actually... -
ARCHIVED Dairy
cyclinglady replied to Natalie1980's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes! With dairy, celiacs can often have a temorary lactose intolerance due to damaged intestinal villi (where the enzymes normally are released to digest lactose). Of course you could be naturally lactose intolerant based on race or age. It is best to stick to a whole foods diet while you are healing. Really, is ice cream or potato chips going to provide... -
ARCHIVED Newly diagnosed, really anxious...
cyclinglady replied to Mnoosh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well....one common symptom that most celiacs have when they are diagnosed (or undiagnosed) is anxiety. So, there is a risk of cancers, but science has demonstrated that that risk goes down on a gluten free diet (if you have celiac disease). In goes down to the same risk as those without celiac disease. I kind of was a basket case. I drive my family... -
ARCHIVED Anti-Gliadin IgA
cyclinglady replied to LisanJulia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad that your daughter is improving and I completely understand why she did not get a biopsy. Getting the full celiac panel (per Gemini's advice) is the best thing for you to do. But I want to warn you. I had the complete panel and I only had one positive (DGP IGA) like you. I went on to get a biopsy because I needed to know for sure for two reasons... -
ARCHIVED sibo from fructose or gluten
cyclinglady replied to kkgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
@kkgirl can you get copies of your old lab results? You can get them from your doctor (and you should keep copies). Do your parents have them? Can you check to see if you actually had the entire celiac panel? I ask because I test positive to only ONE on the panel (DGP IGA), yet I had a intestinal damage. Did you have biopsies six years ago or just a...
