  1. You have come this far. Even though two weeks might NORMALLY not be enough for the celiac antibodies blood test, the fact that you have been possibly glutened via cross contamination (reference Cheerios) you might get a positive on your antibodies test. I can only base this on personal experience. I was glutened last July through cross contamination...
  2. Treece, I was a avid baker for years. Heck, I even made my burger buns from scratch! Cooking was okay, baking was fun! I could whip out a pie in minutes! You can make your old favorite recipes and have them turn out. It just takes some experimenting. All my baked goods are gluten free and my family and friends can not tell the difference. Seriously...
  3. I haven't been to the site in while. It's fun to read. I do use Gabriel certified gluten-free lipstick. I am able to purchase it at our local Sprouts (cheaper version of Whole Foods). I usually wait for the quarterly sales of personal care products (I love a deal). I love that they have testers so I can visually see the colors. I am boring, so I just...
  4. Has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome been ruled out? Open Original Shared Link
  5. As a diagnosed celiac, you can request celiac antibodies testing as a follow-up. That's a standard level of care that your GI or GP/PCP can do. Experts recommend testing at least once a year. Open Original Shared Link You might be able to go back to your GI to obtain your records. It's worth a shot!
  6. It takes about three weeks to get over the sugar cravings. Be sure to eat healthy fats and proteins to sustain you (butter, avocados, chicken fat, nuts, olive oil, etc.) You can do it!
  7. For bug bites? My family uses Children's Benadryl Anti-Itch Gel: Not promoting Walmart, but here it is: Open Original Shared Link Of course none of these topical products should be ingested by anyone!
  8. Welcome to the forum. Yes, it's true. You should have your boyfriend brush and floss before you kiss! Science has determined that celiacs can handle about 20 parts per milllion (size of a crumb) before setting off a reaction. Remember, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that is triggered by gluten. Once triggered, your body will start...
  9. The only way to find out if you have celiac disease for sure is to get tested. The blood test requires you to be consuming 1 to 2 slices of bread per day for a period of 8 to 12 weeks. It's only 2 to 4 weeks if you are doing the endoscopy. You could be reacting to oats for many reasons. Reacting to them is not a definite sign of having celiac disease...
  10. I have been a member of celiac.com for three years and I have seen everything! But Karen is right, as a newbie reading through old posts (and current) you might not think that you won't get well, but it is possible and many celiacs do just fine. Older members pop in occasionally, but for the most part, they are busy with their lives. I am here because...
  11. Yes, this is the place where you can whine all you want even if you are careless or downright stupid! (You might not get any sympathy if that is ALL that you do though.....) I am here because I like the connection to others who are in the same boat. It also keeps me up-to-date on celiac issues and helps me to adhere to the gluten-free diet!
  12. I guess you could try, but it depends on how crusty the pan is. I put mine in the oven (clean cycle) and then re-seasoned them. I did not touch my grandfather's frying pan though. It is crusty and is from the 1930's. I thought it might break. Instead, I tucked it away to be handed down to my daughter (who does not have celiac disease). It made the...
  13. Can the GI first rule out SIBO, Non-functioning gallbladder, H. Plyori, etc? Even if you do the gluten challenge and you confirm that you are a celiac, what good is that? You still have symptoms. You did have then DGP test, right? That one seems to better measure gluten in the diet.
  14. Your thyroid should be tested (request a full thyroid panel). Feeling weak can be a sign of hyperthyoidism and feeling cold can be hypothyroidism and with autoimmune thyroiditis, you can swing from hypo to hyper. You mentioned normal blood tests? What does that include? Have you been tested for celiac antibodies as a follow-up? This would at...
  15. Here are the tests: Open Original Shared Link
  16. My hubby went gluten free per the very poor advice of my allergist and his GP. Does he have celiac disease? We will never know because it worked! He refuses to do a three month challenge. How would he function? Our business relies on him! Thirteen years later, I was diagnosed formally. He will tell you that I have had more support from family...
  17. Well, I confess we do have an RV. I grew up with one, but my hubby did not. He never even camped. It is gluten free. It allows us to travel and sight see without worry. If we can find a safe restaurant, then we'll go for it. If not, we'll skip it and I'll prepare a meal. We just spent the last three nights camped in our RV in the driveway...
  18. Oh no! I am so sorry that you are sick! My last glutening was in July. A whole year has gone by and I confess, I have NEVER eaten out again! I just order coffee. The benefits of eating out (convenience) just don't outweigh the risks (being sick) for me. I hope you feel better soon! Hugs!
  19. Welcome! Hey, I found that I was reacting to baby wipes. We found them useful camping etc even after my kid grew out of diapers. It can be found in many products. Here is more information: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I hope you find the source!
  20. Here's something you can print off and take to your doctor. Open Original Shared Link He or she may not really believe a lady on the internet! Seriously, SquirmingItch gave you theCD tests. Be sure to keep eating gluten until all testing is done. All! Ask for the complete panel. I root for this because I failed the TTG screening test which...
  21. Yes! From what other members have posted and some of the symptoms I experienced after my last big glutening, celiac symptoms (maybe most autoimmune disorders) can wax and wane. Very frustrating. Now you can see why it is hard for doctors to diagnose celiac disease. I hope you feel better soon!
  22. Welcome! About 10% of celiacs do react for some reason to oats -- even certified gluten-free oats! The oats in Cheerios are mechanically sorted after harvest. Many celiacs have become sick from them. You couldn't pay me to eat them! You did not say how often you ate those oats. Maybe you have glutened yourself enough, along with two more weeks...
  23. Well, wash the coffee pot and enjoy a cup of coffee in a clean cup! When I first visited my parents post dx, I purchased a plastic bin and put a few gluten-free utensils, non-stick frying pan, cutting board (or use paper plate), parchment paper, collendar and toaster bags (Amazon.com) and stuffed it in a closet where no one can accidentally use it...
  24. Iron deficiency anemia was my main symptom (no tummy issues). My ferritin (iron stores) were a 2. I did have tingly legs but my B-12 was very high (over 2,000). But it appears that I can not process any man-made vitamin b-12. Please ask for follow-up testing on your vitamin and mineral status. You can cause harm from taking too much iron! Please...
  25. This may seem dumb, but did they check you for a B-12 deficiency since you are vegan? Also I have Hashi's Thyroiditis which is another autoimmune disorder yet my TTG is always negative (DPG positive). What I am trying to say is that a high TGG may be linked to other AI issues. But that's "MAY". So, try not to worry!
